Me too. There are so many small stories like this to tell, and I'm having a blast doing it. Just finished one up today that I'm releasing next week that's going to be kicking off a new standalone series called "Tales From the Front Lines", which focuses on the smaller stories of soldiers at the various battles throughout the first month. Same chaos, different focus :D
I love all of that except the politics. Once they start meeting other groups and then having political issues I start hating it. I loved the walking dead until the governor became an issue. Tried watching more and they just kept running into more political things and I started hating the show.
I'm a huge zombie fan (which should be obvious by this point, haha), and I'm trying my best to keep this series as grounded as possible. People like Carol and Ricky could absolutely survive during the zombie apocalypse, but things have to go really right for them to.

I am not saying that these people would die immediately, but I am saying that their life experience is "work to make minimum wage, spend said money on alcohol and drugs. Get drunk, get high, go to sleep, wake up and do it all over again." So, if they are to suddenly become survival experts randomly after their lives consisted of substance abuse problems, it's completely unrealistic. It'd also be unrealistic to have every situation they face favor them at all turns- that to me is called "miracle characters". Know what I mean? One of my favorite zombie authors is Mark Tufo, but even he made an entire series where every single situation favored the main characters and there was little to no actual pain, anguish or troubles the main characters had to go through other than "mental narrative notes". It got frustrating. I think your writing is amazing, I genuinely enjoyed it. I thought you captured the characters very well. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds. Keep up the good work :)
It's a huge trope for the addicts homeless basically underdogs in society to be able to raise up when said society falls..plus they have spent months and years learning how to survive with very few creature comforts... Though withdrawals will end up killing most addict weather by the actual withdrawal or making them to slow to survive.
I couldn't see alcoholics having a great time in the apocalypse. A drink or two would be nice to let loose. Any more would be a serious issue. People who have a history with uppers may have an advantage as long as they don't crash at the wrong times.

Even though they aren't Navy seals they made the right call. Many people make the panic mistake to escape when they have a better situation than most. Very well written. Helping my hike up the mountain.

I understand they're just some average people and have no idea what's going on but after watching this thing get its jaw completely smashed bones get broken have bite marks all over it and it still continue to walk with huge chunks of flashing and blood everywhere when you stab it the first two times and it doesn't work always go for the head because even in everyday situations going for the head usually works

Hey, welcome to the channel! So the "Tales of the First Month" and "Tales from New York" are almost all average joe (there's one story in NYC focused on cops). The main series is told chronologically and bounces around from group to group. So for example the first 4 books is mostly on civilians (1 cop in their mix), the next 3 is military, then Bismarck is cowboys vs zombies, and so on. The 18 book LowCountry series is mainly focused on civilians (however there is a private military force in there). The Tales stories are standalones for the most part also. There are playlists for all of those series too!
While I commend the character Carol for her kindness in giving first aid to a homelesss man and going out to check on person lying on the ground----doesn't this town have Emergency Services? does 911 ring a bell? Ambulances, calling police? Seriously, if I saw a body lying in the street, unless that body was somebody I loved, I would not be doing anything but calling police. I enjoy these "outbreak" stories because it makes me wonder what the average person would do in a situation like a zombie outbreak. After all, the vast majority of people are not Navy Seals or action heroes, so it's interesting to see a different kind of zombie story. Of course, basically, ordinary people would get killed very quickly.
True, but some of these neighborhoods are pretty low on the totem pole when it comes to getting prompt responses. And with Carol working at this station for years, she knew it would be a waste of time.
I'm eventually going to get around to everyone's home state, but glad I got yours checked off on this one! Going to have to start a thread about hometowns so I can start working on that list, haha
They should’ve given Murphy a greater warning ⚠️ Like how the homeless guy they tried to help, reanimated and came after them after a few bites. Like how the cause of their violence seemed infectious rather than drug related.
I love your stories. I'm just curious, though? Is there a continuation to Carol and Ricky's story? You often kill off or have a seemingly final ending for your characters. But this feels very open-ended. Not that its a problem. But i would really appreciate a part two for these characters. ❤
The story seems okay but if you telling somebody to come get you why wouldn't you tell them that the people that are attacking you are fighting or trying to eat each other
What would necessitate an ice pick, though? If you're thinking of chipping ice off a freezer that isn't defrosting properly, you absolutely would NOT use an ice pick! If you puncture the freezer wall, toxic coolant escapes, and the freezer is ruined. I had a small shop for 30 years, and occasionally had an AC or freezer that froze up. You use a hair dryer on hot for the AC and a hammer to tap and crack off ice buildup in the bottom of a freezer.
After going through my 5 year backlog of content I was faced with a choice. I could continue doing human narration, but it would end up being 1 book a month a most (cost and production time), or I could go with an AI voice, which would allow me to tell as many stories as I want. I understand the AI voice isn't quite at human levels yet, but it is improving. I hope that you stick around!

Finally a zombie story where addicts, drunks and junkies don’t become navy seals the second they see zombies!

Drunks and junkys daily life is surviving and dodging zombies! Not navy seals but pre equipped to survive a scary situation.

There is never enough zombie to scratch the itch - imo.
