- Mark Waugh century and Dean Jones 79 in partnership for Australia against South Africa in the 2nd Final of the 1993-94 World Series Cup at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). As good as Jones played it was the passing of the baton as Waugh from this moment on became the premier top order ODI batsman for Australia until his retirement.

Dean Jones average of 45 back in the early 90's equates to an average of 60 in today's cricket. He was a sensational ODI cricketer
Dean Jones was a brilliant one day cricketer and cricketer full stop. His mouth got him trouble for what reasons I can't remember now but he is a bit of a forgotten player to many. He was however one of the best we ever produced and was one of the best ODI batsman in the world in his day.
Easily one of the best limited overs cricketers ever Dean Jones, could have easily played the 96 World Cup but still a magnificent career.
Yeah I agree he was probably the best runner between wickets in ODI history his strike rate of mid 70s seems low now but it was considered great back in the day but as great a one day batsmen as Jones was It scares me to think what Vic Richards would average and what strike rate he would have I think he averaged 45 at 90 be 60 to 65 and 115 in today's game
Richards with 47@90 would be 60@120!
Dean Jones was one day cricket a superb batsman he changed one day cricket forever fast runner between wickets should of played more test matches brilliant to watch
Classy Mark Waugh absolutely Gem of the Innings 😍😍😍
People talk of his batting but not many of the present generation know how good of a fielder was Dean.
RIP.
RIP Dean Jones. Extradinary Player and Commentator.
Two inspirational heroes. When cricket was still cricket and the game still had integrity.
Pure class player. Smooth like silk
Class, style was seen coming from m.waugh that time ,it was a curtain raiser and beginning for a cricket fan to watch the most stylish, attractive batting ever seen so far
Mark Waugh = EXCELLENCE
It was a different and much better game with full size boundaries.
Thanks for uploading this. Both of them were my favorite batsman. Great to watch the legendary South African players also. Old is always Gold!!
Ahh, the good 'ol days of cricket
In this match mark Taylor was 12th Man. O my God
And 1.5 metres wide.
Tubby's run rate was a bit low for ODIs.
Saw this partnership in the flesh. Was in the Dough Walters Stand that day
RIP Deano.
This was Mark Waugh's only one day century (of 18) scored at No 4. 2 of the other 3 of his first 4 were at no 3, his very first while opening, as were his final 14.
Jones' penultimate ODI home game
RIP Dean Jones 😌💐
We do talk a lot about Sachin but can't remember any such match winning innings in Australia or SA in 90s.
The progressive scoreboard at 6.55: Jones made 32 off his next 29 before getting out and Mark Waugh made 58 off his next 48 before getting out. They really lifted the tempo from that point.
Another Brilliant Upload Keep It Up
Dean Jones WOW!
Yes Mark Waugh 107 off 111, while wow Dean Jones 79 off 113 - go figure????
Jones was the best cricketer in the country in 96. Highest av in domestic. He was given one chance before cup list was finalised, selected to play world XI AGAINST Aus @ MCG. Jones hit Waugh(!) for 6 into the southern stand off the penultimate ball of the game to win it and score his 102*! easily better than all the other world bats at the time including his fellow Aussies!. Remember watching while listening to stackpole commentate on radio. He claimed Waugh didnt dart it in but looped it up giving Jones a chance. So Jones made 102 against Aus and still couldnt get picked! Aus lost the world cup. Its odd watching Waugh and Jones bat together, I think they both were constantly trying to kick the other out of the Aus side.
The David Boon dismissal was identical to one in an Australia v West Indies match at the MCG during the previous season. On both occasions the ball lollipopped to the fieldsman at backward point, who took a dolly of a catch.
Very good Batsman great runner between the wickets nd super filder
Great Dean Jones late
RIP Deano
Doesn't even take off his helmet for his century.
Mark Waugh was the last of the players not to over celebrate a century.
The most laid-back attitude ever I guess. Even great catches, he would just chuck the ball in the air like it was no big deal
I am smiling mark Taylor twelve man
@@BulldogDynasty unlike Warner who carries on and jumps around like a school boy.
Brave Cricketers .. Dean Jones facing Allan Donald and Co without Helmet :o ..WOW !!
Not to mention the fact that Deano is a metre out of his ground when facing the quicks.
I remember Dean Jones charging Waqar Younis at the waca, driving the ball. It nearly took Waqars head off.
@@BongSau83 and charging the quicks as well
Maverick 7, bouncers were outlawed in one day cricket, so not that big a deal. No different to riding a shetland pony around the yard without a helmet.
R.I.P Deano
Hadlee commentating on D.M. Jones is kind of ironic....
Why is that?
@@nickpanopoulos8465 Because Jones was Hadlee's bunny in test cricket.
Something wrong when Deano has a 46 avg and was kept out of the side by the NSW Waugh brothers both avg low 30’s
Waugh’s were also very good bowlers in that era very important asset to have
Don't be a fool Brendon. Jones was shite at chasing above par targets, and almost all his hundreds were on flat pitches in big team totals. Mark Waugh made 7 of his 18 ODI tons chasing big targets and was the first to four world cup tons from any country - Jones scored no world cup tons at all in two tournaments when four were scored by his team mates. When Mark made his four world cup tons in two tournaments there were only two others from team mates.
Jones's average is bloated by the multitude of not outs in the 50-80 range mopping up targets of 15% or more below par i.e. no genuine pressure.
@@BulldogDynasty Irrelevant. See my reply below.
@@Bernie8330 spot on
Steven Roger Waugh & Mark Edward Waugh .
Hayden was selected in 1992 ..but he didn't perform ..He was dropped from the side...
Why in God's name did people care, or still do care, what Mark Waugh's average was and still is when he constantly did stuff like this when it mattered in the big matches at decisive points in series, both in test and one day cricket? Mark Waugh, like Victor Trumper, proves that raw mean number of runs per dismissal is absolutely meaningless in rating a batsman.
People bring that in Test matches coz seeing his quality they expected him to have the stats as well an avg of late 40s nobody says that in odis though to my knowledge. In odis he was rated as good as Sachin Lara Anwar
@@ucantseeme7477 - True. Sachin, Lara, Anwar, Aravinda and Mark Waugh. These 5 were the best ever.
Lol hayden was selected then
Hansie bowling Cullinan bowling sounds fishy to be!
Steve Waugh is Steven so Mark should have been Marvin.
Great player Deano, average bloke but
Great player? Turn it up. He was pretty good batting first in one day cricket, absolute shite when chasing above par targets. And he was equally shite against the top bowling attacks in test cricket of his era, ala West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand with Richard Hadlee.
The Australian tour of South Africa should be longer 5 One day internationals 3 T20's & 2 Test matches September & October 2023 the World 🌍 Cup 🏆 in India should start 20 January-19 February 2024 in India please man do as I say because the Rugby World Cup is 2023 October November!!!!!!!
Current Australian bowlers have better run rates than these two
That south African team always pushed the Aussies. I hated them with a passion
Mark Waugh 100 times better than Sachin Tendulkar
Ridiculous statement
RIP Deano
