I remember everything you show in this video. I can even remember when they were building the new coast road and the dug outs for the flyovers, just off where I live on Station Road, I may have only been about four or five at the time, but I remember seeing the deep dugouts, the horrible smell and the watchies cabin next to Fergies corner shop!

That picture from the 14 stories looking over to the college is amazing. I was brought up in Battle Hill and can remember walking to school along the black path when Battle Hill was still being built so I suspect that photo must have been taken early 1970's

The 14 storeys will always be remembered for one thing, Terry Collier ended up living there in 1976 when his parents old house was demolished.

Excellent, and also the flats at Howdon being shown in their last days. Love them or loathe them, these three blocks of flats really stood out and were a landmark for 30 years. Now there isn't a trace of them and Willington Square is low rise.

Nice memories, born there in 1958, lived in Terraced housing overlooking the Dry Docks and Swans, hate to say it, but glad I moved in 2010 when the estate I lived on became overrun with druggies and alcoholics.

I was just telling my kids how we used to have the fireworks displays and the fair (until poor Hal mulligan was killed, he was a lovely lad and in my class at school) they didn't believe me I'll have to show them these pics xx

Hi Alistair I think the building you refer to is the North Tyneside College which is situated at the end of Embleton Avenue. It is now also accessed from the main road through Battle Hill, which obviously didn't exist when this photo was taken. It is still there but obviously on a much larger scale now and is very visible from the Coast Road. I had a mate who live in Embleton Ave and I actually went to that college for a year in the mid 1970's. I would guess this photo must have been taken sometime in the 60's as the coast road doesn't even exist in dual carriageway form. I was born and lived about half a mile away from the location of this photo and I can never remember it being so undeveloped. Some great old photos on this short video and I especially smiled when I saw Howdon station with the little bridge overpass next to the overpowering smell of Howdon gasworks. Its very different in lots of respects now but some things have never moved on and now they look very sad. Last time I went past Wallsend baths it looked dreadful. I suppose we are all getting old and a bit battered around the edges. Happy memories.
