I have personal experience with this repair done from John. He got my CC back quickly and it was fully functional. Absolutely worth the price and minor wait for having full control again of the electronic CC. Nice work on the video. Keep em coming!
I've tried twice to contact John at the Comcast email, but have received no reply. Can someone suggest another repair resource, also? Thank you! UPDATE: Unfortunately, I was never able to contact John, so I pulled the unit, disassembled it and cleaned the push buttons on the control board with NAPA Electrical parts cleaner. It works like new! I'm glad I didn't have to get into any wiring, because it's definition a repair for an electronics guy!
Got mine done from John too! He fixed it the same day he got it and the unit was already on it's way back to me. Thank god I found him on Ebay. I was about to buy a brand new replacement for $240 with core. He did it for $50 bucks and it's got a lifetime warranty, too.
Open the video description by clicking on "Show More" and you'll find a link to John's Ebay page. You send yours in, he fixes it and sends it back to you.
Do you think if the module isn't working properly can it cause a short? And can it cause a fuse to blow? Recently when turned the fan nob on the ac control. It blew my dash gauge fuse. I replaced the fuse and turned on the ac and it blew a fuse again.
Don't know if a malfunctioning climate control unit could cause a fuse to blow. Maybe message John and ask his opinion on it. We have his contact info in the video description. It’s most likely a short in the wire itself. So maybe some of the sheathing has peeled off leaving the wire exposed and if it touches metal it will short out
Daniel Rojas it’s a pioneer deck. They don’t make it anymore but they do make an updated version. Are you just interested in a 2-DIN stereo unit that tilts?
Timmy The Toolman yes. On my 97/ all 3rd gen’s have terrible infotainment placement. I didn’t think they made systems that tilt. That would help make up for the bad placement in my opinion.
Hey Tim do you have a "recommended tool kit" video for 3rd Gens? I'd love to have a reliable list of what sockets / wrench sizes one should have. I know most are 10,12,14,19,24 etc. Thanks so much for all the awesome work on your channel and such a public service to DIY folks like myself!!
Hey Daryl, there's not really a tool kit I can recommend but there are tool companies I like and have bought many tools from like Gear Wrench, Dewalt, OTC and Milwaukee. All our videos list the tools we use in the video description or a comment we pinned. If you look there, you'll be able to buy the same tools we use in the videos. Great video Sean hey my wife’s 01 4Runner doesn’t have that type of CC panel she has the manual type can I install this kind? Is it a direct fit? And are the harness connectors the same?
Edwin Medrano it is not compatible. The climate control system is completely different and this video only applies to those who have a limited 1999-2002 Toyota 4Runner.
Timmy The Toolman oh so only the limited versions of the 4Runner have this kind of CC and there’s no way of retro fitting it into the none limited versions?
I have a 99 limited, i want to replace the radio/climate control bezel. it has a security light/bulb. I’ve seen ones on eBay without the security bulb insert and decal. Can I still use it and just leave it behind it or would I have to order it through Toyota?
Timmy The Toolman yes that’s the only difference, I’ve seen under descriptions; they say it should fit my car. I just don’t want to order something and wait a couple of weeks for it to arrive and be wrong
@@Alexisandsons Having that light stuffed in the back shouldn't be a problem. I'd probably just remove the bulb and zip tie the wire to something else so it doesn't rattle around and make noise.

Late reply, but yes you can replace the lights. They're soldered in. If it's the same repair guy, he's on ebay. Actually offers LED upgrade with different colors to choose from. So you can get blue white red purple instead of the OEM green.
Damn, I've been pricing them used. I don't want to be without heat during winter. Sometimes mine comes on, buttons don't work but knobs do (temp / fan). It's going to be really hard not doing the magic tricks (rapid spinning) when I get the fixed one back. I have to hold down 3 buttons super hard to turn it off. Lol
Sup fellas - a little off topic but nice Lexus steering wheel. What year/model did you grab that from? Airbag is the same? Guess the reason I ask is I’ve been looking for a way to incorporate stereo controls into the wheel that looks/acts as OEM as possible. Wondering if I can source something from the Lexus side of the fence. I’ve got a similar Pioneer unit
The wheel came from a Lexus es300. & if you grab the wheel you need to also grab the airbag as well. The Toyota 4Runner airbag will NOT fit on the Lexus wheel. There was a guy on T4R.ORG that used a wheel & the steering controls from a GX470 & hooked them up to his stereo unit so it can be done. This wheel however does not have any extra stereo controls. It is basically the same as the 4Runner wheel but with the fancy wood grain.

Griff Sconce yes, it won’t affect how your rig drives. You just simply won’t have Any options to adjust AC/heat.
