Anyone I've ever known that said they were turned down for unemployment was either fired for cause and not laid off, was never employed by the company they said they were to begin with, never worked for a iving at all anywhere, or not a legal citizen and gave them a fake SS number.

@@ctina2572 That wasn't due to a denial of unemployment benefits though, it was due to the states sending all their employees home in a panic over covid with no plan then trying to figure out how to keep things running. It took many of them over six months to get their shit straight, and many states took even longer than that. There are plenty of people in a lot of states who used a year's worth of turmoil and confusion at the state level to get benefits they had no right to collect, the states are going after them now big time for fraud.

Just the other day, news media had to issue correction on the Trump-Georgia call election scandal where they quoted Trump saying to find him fraud without even hearing the recording. It was a "quote" by someone who heard something from someone else, passed off as a legit quote.
The UI system in FL was pretty bad in the beginning (Rick Scott's fault), was improved dramatically; then at the end of pandemic benefits was pretty lousy suddenly. Employers contesting Federal benefits should not be allowed, someone quitting in his example (I don't know if that's the case) is only relevant if the office closed or if they were asked to do something that would be unsafe during the pandemic. Ending the benefits abruptly was a mistake, it cost Floridians $2 billion+ of Federal money and did not have an effect on hiring. You can't allow employers to make a medical decision for their employees and put the employers in charge of statewide decisions (he cut the Federal benefit and did so because crappy jobs had trouble hiring, not careers but "McJobs.")
I had an employee who quit at the end of 2019 after 15 years with the company so he could enjoy an early semi-retirement. He filed for unemployment in Feb 2020. We contested. When I called him and asked what happened,he told me he thought it would be easy money and didn't think it affected anyone. It does. Employer rates change based on how often UI is used. I offered him his old job back, with a raise (he was very well paid when he quit). He said no thanks, then filed another claim. We contested again, and he called to apologize. He said he could use the cash. I offered him the job, again. He said no, again. It would disrupt his lifestyle and cause him to move back to his old city. Fast forward three months and I found him a job with someone else near his new home. I like him, but I don't understand why everyone in America thinks everyone owes them everything, and rules don't matter.

I moved to FL 4 months before covid hit and was furloughed for 10 weeks starting in March along with the rest of my team. I tried filing and the response I received was nonsensical. I still don't have those 10 weeks of insurance. The system is a joke, as designed.

Anyone I've ever known that said they were turned down for unemployment was either fired for cause and not laid off, was never employed by the company they said they were to begin with, never worked for a iving at all anywhere, or not a legal citizen and gave them a fake SS number.
In some states thougb that shit can get backed up.amd confusing. I kndw someone that got denied for like 7 months. Then they finally.got all their backpay at once for those 7 mths, it was like 8 thousand dollars

It took many of them over six months to get their shit straight, and many states took even longer than that.
There are plenty of people in a lot of states who used a year's worth of turmoil and confusion at the state level to get benefits they had no right to collect, the states are going after them now big time for fraud.

The UI system in FL was pretty bad in the beginning (Rick Scott's fault), was improved dramatically; then at the end of pandemic benefits was pretty lousy suddenly. Employers contesting Federal benefits should not be allowed, someone quitting in his example (I don't know if that's the case) is only relevant if the office closed or if they were asked to do something that would be unsafe during the pandemic. Ending the benefits abruptly was a mistake, it cost Floridians $2 billion+ of Federal money and did not have an effect on hiring. You can't allow employers to make a medical decision for their employees and put the employers in charge of statewide decisions (he cut the Federal benefit and did so because crappy jobs had trouble hiring, not careers but "McJobs.")
I had an employee who quit at the end of 2019 after 15 years with the company so he could enjoy an early semi-retirement. He filed for unemployment in Feb 2020. We contested. When I called him and asked what happened,he told me he thought it would be easy money and didn't think it affected anyone. It does. Employer rates change based on how often UI is used. I offered him his old job back, with a raise (he was very well paid when he quit). He said no thanks, then filed another claim. We contested again, and he called to apologize. He said he could use the cash. I offered him the job, again. He said no, again. It would disrupt his lifestyle and cause him to move back to his old city.
Fast forward three months and I found him a job with someone else near his new home. I like him, but I don't understand why everyone in America thinks everyone owes them everything, and rules don't matter.
