Really? Guys have no canes and girls are having to cover SHOULDERS?!?!?!?!!?!?! I forgot, how sexy my shoulders are, damn I must just make boys everywhere wet and unable to keep it in their pants when I wear a tank top .................. it’s just something about those bones that just get the boys sweating! WHOOO
It's not really about boys getting horny. It's more like adults not wanting teens to look trashy? Prom is a formal event, so you have to dress formally. When it comes to guys, there's not much variation in formal suits, but girls with dresses? There are millions of options. Dresses range from extremely revealing, to modest and classy, obviously, do they want to narrow down what you can choose to wear.
how about we imagine this: A teen girl that grew up with a very strict dress code is invited to a party. She doesn't know what to wear . There is no dress code or anyone to help her . She wears acoording to what she has been told to wear that is "acceptable" for her body now she is at the party and has 0 sence of style looking like a grandma.
@Kate Ryder She meant that because of the dress code that’s drilled into her mind, she isn’t used to wearing things that break the dress code. And that girl is totally me.
It's true. This is one of the MANY reasons why I'm not going to mine. That and they want to charge like 70 bucks a ticket for the liberty to turn you away at the door when end up breaking the code with a dress and/or make up that you paid large prices for.
If I was a senior at any of these schools in this video, except for high school #4, because that dress code was more reasonable, I would outright REFUSE to go to prom after knowing the dress codes.
I went to vocational school and honestly had this rule for normal classes and a few extra for shop days but were obvious as to why. Like closed toed shoes, no baggy loose clothes if near machinery. Pretty sure everyone boys and girls lived in some form of jeans and T-shirts. Normal school days just keep your butt, crotch, and nipples covered you were fine and that was for boys and girls.
Before my graduation, we had a dress inspection for what we would wear for the graduation reception. We had to go in this room alone with the principal and vice principal while they determine if our dress was appropriate or not. This was the dress code: - NO off the shoulder - NO sleeveless or strapless (had to have sleeves) - NO chest exposed (even a little) - NO back exposed - NO stomach exposed - NO above knee (had to hit knee or lower) - NO form-fitting or tight - NO jewelry (they didn’t want us bringing extra attention to ourselves) - and probably some other stupid rules I’m not thinking of As you can imagine it was practically IMPOSSIBLE to find a dress I liked. Oh, and of course there wasn’t an inspection for the boys.. 😒
1) Boys don't have much variety in what they wear. It's literally just formal suits. Unlike girls, who can choose from a dress that leaves very little to the imagination, to something classy and formal. 2) apart from the jewelery, I see nothing too horrible about these rules. They want you to dress formal, and prom is a formal event. You shouldn't be dressing trashy or..dare I say..slutty, to something like prom. Not saying that's what you were going for, but I also don't see what the huge deal is.
*Dress codes* America:flesh can’t touch flesh, must be modest and cover chest, must be atleast 4 sizes extra large ++ Students: follows all rules Teachers: “detention” Canada: no shoulders or belly button Me: comes to school in a cropped tube top The school: okay
Extreme dress codes for prom kind of takes the fun out the experience in my opinion lol girls had dress code in my high school for prom but nothing extreme. But guys literally took their shirts off and put their ties around their necks and put just their jackets back on.... and no one said anything to them.
July Twentyfirst of course, you can still have fun and look decent. but for me, prom and being that young is all about experimenting and when there are too many rules, especially when they are pretty sexist, it lowers the experience
I went to catholic school that had one of those dress codes. No straps thinner than 1 inch, long dresser for senior prom, no cut outs, could not be “too fitted” (whatever that means, no exposed back or midriff, no low cut front, no skits in the skirts.......
it would be pretty degrading showing up at prom and being turned away because the teachers don't approve of your dress. I wonder if male dress codes are this hard to follow.
Men don't have much choice on what the can wear to prom, they usually wear a suit correct? A suit usually covers all of a man's body except his hands and face. Women have so many different styles of dresses to choose from on the other hand. You don't want a bunch of teenage girls showing off their butts or a little to much cleavage, that's why schools need dress codes.
@@P-Wolsey I do see your point, and i understand what you mean, but I slightly disagree. Yes, schools need dress codes, but I think they're just a tiny bit too strict. Like, no spaghetti straps makes sense, but not being allowed to show any shoulders is a bit over the top. Skirts and shorts, shouldn't be showing off butts, but forcing girls to wear skirts that are super duper long can get annoying. Same with shorts, except shorts can't get very long before turning into capris, I guess. So, I do agree that schools need dress codes, I just think they don't have to be super extremely strict.
JacAttack I don't think my school even has a prom dress code other than no nudity. If there is a dress code, I haven't seen it lol but I know last year some girl wore a dress with impressive side boob and no one bothered her. My friend though the side boob was impressive and showed confidence (my friend wished she had that confidence)
I am pan, and have come across many pretty people in my life. But never once did I think "Dammmnn, look at those shoulders on Becky! 10/10 would smash"
I’m bi I’m fine with girls AND boys showing skin at my school girls can’t show any skin except our faces and skin below the elbow and boys can wear tank tops a shorts and one boy was shirtless and I got dress coded for wearing shorts that went to my knees and he was fine
I live in Argentina. Actually, my prom is this year. I've never imagined that something as a dress code for prom would ever exist. Here, every girl chooses the dress she wants and there are no rules according to what ypu should wear or not. I'm now pleaced to live here
Same here in Chile! Is really disturbing that they are so fixated in the girls bodies that they would not allow them in such an important night because of all those terrible rules.
my dress code for my dance says girls can't wear suits. i am depressed i was ready to go in a suit and my teacher told me i have to wear a dress and i'm tempted to give my ticket to someone in need i hate dresses
You could take it up with the Administration. Thats what a girl at my school did because we had to wear a dress to prom and graduation. And she got it changed.
Alyssa Rosado prom was not worth my time effort or money. Litrally stood in a room with people I dont really like with a band that preppy kids picked :')
My school doesn't have any code regulations for prom, just don't get drunk til after prom. These two boys turned up in a wheel barrel once, that was quite weird to see, one was sitting in it and the other was pushing 😂
lissa killa our School did not Care. A Girl was forced into a fancy dress by her mom (she intended for hoodie and Adidas pants) to rebel she wore red santa Claus socks in her High Heel sandals. Mom was not happy.
You know School tries to put the blame on the women because they're dressing the way they want to dress course you can't go to school like half naked or anything but we want to be comfortable with some schools that have been banned tights sweatpants shorts and some muscle shirts for the women maybe instead of blaming the women they should teach the men to respect the women and not to stare can actually teach the men how to be young men I'm a 12 year old and I like to look good but I'm not girly I want to be comfortable in my clothes without looking weird I just wish that instead of blaming the women that they would teach the men how to be actual young respectable men
I honestly don't understand American dress codes? Especially for prom. In N Ireland we have a uniform for school, but for prom, there was no code. It was just assumed that we'd turn up in formal dresses, and we did. Some people wore strapless, some had a bit of cleavage showing, some people wore tighter dresses etc but they were all formal and acceptable for the occasion? It's insane to me the number of rules here.
I'm American and had a similar dress code to you. I think the problem was girls were more and more trying to do the "Hollywood" thing (plunging necklines to the bellybutton, totally see-through except for the bikini areas, a two piece dress with quite a bit of stomach showing, etc.).
I skipped mine because the dress code was so ridiculous I couldn't find anything that fit the requirements. This was like 15 years ago, I assume it's even worse now.
The only reasonable dress code was the one from Oklahoma. Some of these verge on discriminatory and outright forcing religious standards onto people that are, if not almost, adults. It's ridiculous. Some of these schools I wouldn't have even attended prom, or I would have gone somewhere completely else with my friends where I was free to express myself.
My fave Rule was from Broken Arrow,OK: If a One Piece bathing suit covers an area, the dress must hast have opaque material in same area. That's simple, and leave room for Alot of fasion
Ughh ikr its degreading to me because at school all the girls are developing so quickly and i look at me and go..: am i normal? Why are they so small. Why does my chest have to be flat? I havent even had my first period yet. I got rejected by my crush last week just because i had a flat chest and a flat bum. Sorry for this rant, just had to get it out there
@@_pipeyyy4054 aww i’m so sorry, at least he didn’t lead you on then break it off for those reasons💗 hope everything works out and you meet someone way better
I'm a 5'3" 32 G. I can't imagine trying to find a dress that completely covered my breasts and also didn't swallow me whole. Prom dress codes are so sexist and discriminatory. I cannot help the way my body is shaped. I should not be punished for that.
Ouch! and I thought being 5'6 and a e-cup in hs was bad :( I can hardly imagine how nightmare-ish your gym classes was/are! Did your consulation go well? Crossing my fingers that it did! :)
Cleavage is NOT in my vocabulary. I can get away with not wearing a bra and nobody will notice. I also have a little bit of armpit fat and I am as flat as a board. 😑
I'm so thankful that my prom dress code was basically "no exposed midriffs" and that's it. Yet sooo many girls felt like that was an impossible standard.
Rylee Johnson oh clearly this society fetishizes half dressed women. Women are over-sexualized if you haven't noticed. I could literally put my hair in a pony and it'd be deemed as too sexy and or unladylike. Plus, being comfortable doesn't necessarily equate to being naked.
Plus ya'll these dress codes aren't "must cover everything a bathing suit would cover" (except the one). They're "how dare you show your arms". Like, keeping all girls from showing their shoulders will not prevent actual inappropriate clothing any better than only banning actually inappropriate clothing.
idk why your saying "in america" cuz its literally the same in probably most countries in the entire world. it has been in every country ive been too and lived in.
Kaylee Pearce and sexualizes young girls and teaches them that their body is the only thing that people see and it is no more than a sexual distraction
Kaylee Pearce alot of schools had stripes on the ties and they would count the number of stripes before you entered the school. We also couldn't enter the building until we took our coats off and put them in our school bag not to be seen till you leave the school in the evening (Living in northern England it rains 90% of the year). Alot of schools girls and boys with hair longer than there collar bones are required tie there hair up, the can only use plain black bobbles. Some schools also won't let boys grow their hair out at all. On the rear occasion that it was a sunny day you still had to wear full length shirt, tie and blazer and in many schools you would have to ask permission to take your blazer off. Thankfully when it came to prom the rules where much more relaxed than this, however only 1/5 of the year 11s could go (In England you only have a prom in year 6 and year 11 when you finish primary and secondary school)
Yes! I'm from Oklahoma (Pryor) I always loved seeing Broken Arrow's show. I was in colorguard my senior year of high school and we actually rented our guard uniforms from Broken Arrow that year.
I graduated in june 2016, (in canada, mind you) and we didn't have any dress codes besides obvious ones (be covered, and look nice) So i find it interesting that USA has so many?
Tempest you must be a troll, or 10 years old and immature/brainwashed by society into thinking there is only one way to be beautiful. So what if she doesn't fit the mold set by fashion designers or magazines, etc? Anyway, plus-sized models are starting to get more and more accepted and popular, and people are seeing the beauty in all body types, so you gotta get on board and accept people for their own unique beauty or be stuck in the past, miserable and hateful.
At my school ladies weren't allowed to wear suits not even pant suits if they were formal even the lesbians who dress like guys had to wear a dress cuz it was not right to wear pants if you were a girl at prom
Awsamazing Eden for our proms we get to wear any thing but it can't show the bobs and the u know what I mean.My school is not in America tho so maybe that's why?
In the capital of Norway, Oslo, most high schools throw their proms outside school property. We usually rent a club or a theater, and you can dress however you want.
wow, our last prom was crazy though, maybe better your way. Some took coke, others destroyed parts of the venue and two people had to get picked up by an ambulanse and brought to the hospital.
I think most European countries do this. Here in Romania most of people rent the restaurant of an expensive hotel, rather than a club but the club is an option too. We never do prom in school. And is not a dress code neither, which is awesome.
Australia is the same. At my "prom" in 1993 (yes I'm THAT old :P ) we rented the function room at a nearby posh hotel, had a lovely sit-down dinner, and then partied on til midnight. The only thing we couldn't have was alcohol served at the function because some of the students attending were underage. (Australia's drinking age is 18) According to these "dress codes" my prom dress wouldn't have been acceptable at any of these 5 schools.
If I remember correctly my prom dress code literally followed the rest of the year dress code.... straps had to be three fingers wide, skirts not above the fingertips when arms are straight down etc.... like it was reasonable. I don't even remember there being an issue with girls vs guys with that one. (We had a transgirl in a dress and she had zero pushback it was great, her twirling and her expression made my day.)
I've never experienced anything such as dress codes at my school. You could literally wear whatever the heck you want, everyday! I'm so glad that I'm living in Germany, America you got me shook again for once... smh 😑😒 this is as sad as it gets, honestly
In America, though, people show up wearing miniskirts and lingerie. Trust me, for the sake of actually getting people to clothe themselves, dress codes are (unfortunately) required.
Nele Tretow Believe me, people in America hate it too. Blame the board of education or something...it's very frustrating. There should be dress codes in place but not this strict. (I say that because some people would show up wearing basically underwear if given chance.) We need to teach guys how to not be buttholes instead of making girls cover up...
Nele Tretow I'm not even allowed to wear leggings. Or wear shorts, even if they are at the knee. Or wear tank tops. Or wear something that shows any part of my bra. Why? Because it's too "distracting." These rules wouldn't be unbearable, except for the fact that I live in southern Texas, where it gets over 100°F every year by may.
High School says they prepare you for jobs with dress codes but I worked at Wal-Mart and the dress code is either black or khaki pants, a white, black, or navy blue shirt and if you happen to wear a hoodie there can't be a hood and it has to be plain black or navy blue. I also worked at Spirit Halloween and it's basically Spencers only Halloween obviously so both of those stores have the same dress code and all it says in the employee handbook is wear what you feel comfortable to work in if you wear a hoodie the hood must be down and no hats and there can't be profanity or nudity on your outfit so school you failed lol
They meant jobs higher than retail. Business casual, business formal, interview outfit, it matters a lot. (Out of retail) job dress code rules don't make sense either but you have to deal with them. If you wanna get paid more than at Walmart, anyway.
That makes so sense seeing as most high schoolers will go on to college where there is literally 0 dress code. They don't immediately go work a white-collar job. Besides, any idiot would learn on their first interview that you can't dress trashy and expect to be taken seriously.
Do they give any reason for putting a dress code on proms? It's meant to be a night out, to have fun and dress up nice. Having such ridiculous prom codes goes against that. Like I kinda get dress codes in school, my high school had a uniform and that's a dress code as you can get. But you could wear what you wanted to the ball as long as it was formal.
Honestly dress codes in most jobs are just “don’t dress in anything as short as a bathing suit” at least in my experience unless they give you a specific uniform.
I think it was just someone's way of tryiing to define when too much breast is showing. The dress where Kristin made the armpit joke was probably acceptable.
t. During everyday school we're not allowed to wear open toe shoes, leggings, any shirt that shows any part of your back, spaghetti straps, sleeveless tops, and excessive jewelry or bracelets.
I can't wear something with straps bigger than two inches, no rips in jeans above the knee, if you're wearing leggings you have to wear a shirt that's fingertip length or you miss a class for detention.. because our sense of style is more important than our schoolwork. No bandanas, hats, nothing. You can't show cleavlage at all- though that's inevitable for me since I'm larger, small chested girls get away with v-necks tho(small boob privilege) nothing showing too much back, no crop tops even if you pair it with high waisted jeans- and for me being "curvy" I follow these very rules but still end up getting dress coded. The guys dress code is to not wear anything with profanity or anything provocative (like bare women's nipples), being shirtless isn't allowed- but you can go outside shirtless during lunch if it's hot (though when I took my sweater off to reveal a tank top i immediately got scolded.), and no booty shorts. That's literally it for guys... "Oh nooo, dress codes are equal for 'all genders'"
Pieulpe this is true 👌🏻 But when you get to the upper years of high school you tend not to have a uniform and the dress code is pretty vague. Like my school lets us wear tank tops and short skirts and tbh I just don't think it's as big of an issue over here especially when it comes to things like prom. We're pretty lucky 🙌🏻
Okkenobi _ In france we don't have any dress code or uniform ^^ I mean, I come with my katana-umbrella when the weather's rainy and all I get is laughs and people asking what it is all day long ! Besides from having to take off any hat/cap when we get inside (and filp flops lol) there's no restriction. We don't have any prom either, sometimes students organize one but it isn't a big deal at all, just a big party without alcool, and I find all this craze around prom in the US way too exagerated, at this age you should be over it 😂 Some students organized a ''prom'' at the end of middle school and it was fun tho
I live in Australia and we don’t really have prom but we do have graduation. My schools rules for dresses is literally to take a photos of a dress you want and send it to one of the teachers and she will tell you if it is appropriate.
no seriously, boys could actually wear a bikini and get away with it

I forgot, how sexy my shoulders are, damn I must just make boys everywhere wet and unable to keep it in their pants when I wear a tank top .................. it’s just something about those bones that just get the boys sweating! WHOOO
I am dying because this is the best comment I have seen so far on an old video that i'm revisiting.
It's not really about boys getting horny. It's more like adults not wanting teens to look trashy? Prom is a formal event, so you have to dress formally. When it comes to guys, there's not much variation in formal suits, but girls with dresses? There are millions of options. Dresses range from extremely revealing, to modest and classy, obviously, do they want to narrow down what you can choose to wear.
how about we imagine this:
A teen girl that grew up with a very strict dress code is invited to a party. She doesn't know what to wear . There is no dress code or anyone to help her . She wears acoording to what she has been told to wear that is "acceptable" for her body now she is at the party and has 0 sence of style looking like a grandma.
@@blackstar1020 that doesn't make any sense
@Kate Ryder She meant that because of the dress code that’s drilled into her mind, she isn’t used to wearing things that break the dress code. And that girl is totally me.
This just makes a person not want to go to prom.
All schools should have the “ it would be covered by a one-piece swimsuit rule, for prom and every day.
Emilia Phillip yes! It makes total sense .
I think some people would still have questions. Like could it be backless? What about a cutout one piece?
I went to vocational school and honestly had this rule for normal classes and a few extra for shop days but were obvious as to why. Like closed toed shoes, no baggy loose clothes if near machinery. Pretty sure everyone boys and girls lived in some form of jeans and T-shirts. Normal school days just keep your butt, crotch, and nipples covered you were fine and that was for boys and girls.
Someone explain please 😂
Emilia Phillip yassss girl you know your facts/the person you got this from!!!
Guy1: dude did you see her shoulders?
Guy2: ya it was so hot, but don't even get me started on her knees.
Guy1: ya I know it was so hot!
*girl is walking by*
*the guys* : DAAAMN GUURL LOOK AT THAT ARMPIT FAT WHOHOOO IS IT HOT IN HERE?!
Lovely Life true
Marlie Gustsol lol
Look at dat collarbone
Would you look at them collarbones
No flesh against flesh? Well can't wear dresses. 😂😂😂😂🤦🤦🤦 My thighs rub together.
I dont think that would count considdering the dress would cover the flesh touching
@@heartfullbutterfly314 it's a joke, my God

Kristen looks so pretty in her own dress that she wore to the shoot. I love it!!!
Amy Baillie I wanna know where she got it from cause I want one:(
She looks like a whale
+Mads Schatz-Jakobsen, are you immensely handsome and have 8% body fat to be saying that?
Og da jeg så dig, tænkte jeg straks "Cat with the hat", men er det noget man altid skal pointere?
She was killing it in that dress! I love her sense of style. I swear she wears some of the cutest things!
Before my graduation, we had a dress inspection for what we would wear for the graduation reception. We had to go in this room alone with the principal and vice principal while they determine if our dress was appropriate or not. This was the dress code:
- NO off the shoulder
- NO sleeveless or strapless (had to have sleeves)
- NO chest exposed (even a little)
- NO back exposed
- NO stomach exposed
- NO above knee (had to hit knee or lower)
- NO form-fitting or tight
- NO jewelry (they didn’t want us bringing extra attention to ourselves)
- and probably some other stupid rules I’m not thinking of
As you can imagine it was practically IMPOSSIBLE to find a dress I liked.
Oh, and of course there wasn’t an inspection for the boys.. 😒
Wow, this literally is abuse.
thats too much
That’s crazy, it was probably some sexual thing the principal got off on.
Kate Ryder lmao you don’t need to wear sleeves to be formal honestly some of the rules are stupid
If you can make someone be turned on by your armpit fat, you deserve an award, thats what i call talent
Raging Fangirl 😂😂😂😂

*Dress codes*
America:flesh can’t touch flesh, must be modest and cover chest,
must be atleast 4 sizes extra large ++
Students: follows all rules
Teachers: “detention”
Canada: no shoulders or belly button
Me: comes to school in a cropped tube top
The school: okay
BootleggedBoba A I’m Canadian and we can show shoulders or wear crop tops
Claire Delaney I’m Canadian and the relatability of this is insane
The Netherlands be like: what are dress codes?
We don‘t even have dress codes in Germany
Extreme dress codes for prom kind of takes the fun out the experience in my opinion lol girls had dress code in my high school for prom but nothing extreme. But guys literally took their shirts off and put their ties around their necks and put just their jackets back on.... and no one said anything to them.
July Twentyfirst getting all dressed up and feeling good is like the most fun part
Would they tell one girl that her dress was "too fitted" while another girl wore the same dress (but had a different body type)?
Would wearing a turtleneck, sleeve to the elbow, with ankle skirt work?
Kayla Resurreccion omg
Kayla Resurreccion they are conservative Catholics just like my mom
yes! it was so stupid
it would be pretty degrading showing up at prom and being turned away because the teachers don't approve of your dress. I wonder if male dress codes are this hard to follow.
They aren't.
Shoto Todoroki sarcasm.
Shoto Todoroki they can be
Men don't have much choice on what the can wear to prom, they usually wear a suit correct?
Me: * has one molecule of shoulder skin showing *
School: (ง ͠° ͟ʖ ͠°)ง
At our prom, the girls dress code is a full paragraph and the guys literally just reads "jackets must be worn. No jeans."
JacAttack If I was a girl getting dress coded at that school I would flip my long hair and say "Are you assuming my gender?!"
Anh Le are you kidding me?? Lucky...
my dress code say fromal wear, no sneakers/jeans
We didnt have a dress code, i went on my allstars
If lesbian/bi girls can control themselves when they see a girl showing their *sexy* shoulders, maybe the shoulders aren't the problem.
Preach! Couldn't have said it better myself.
Exactly! I’m pan, and when I see a girl with her shoulders out I don’t wanna jump on her!
Ouiji so am I!
I'm so relieved there's no such thing as a dress code in my high school.. sorry for all the ppl who have to go through this, that's so unfair
Inês Garcia Yeah, same... rn I'm feeling so much more grateful
Inês Garcia I had a dress code in grade school, we had to wear a polo, or a school logo shirt. Life was tough.
Only dress codes on my school, was dress for ball! And that's about it.
Here from the dr we dont even have proms
Same over here in Colombia! You just wear what you want and no one really cares
my dress code for my dance says girls can't wear suits. i am depressed i was ready to go in a suit and my teacher told me i have to wear a dress and i'm tempted to give my ticket to someone in need i hate dresses
You could take it up with the Administration. Thats what a girl at my school did because we had to wear a dress to prom and graduation. And she got it changed.
Alyssa Rosado what about jumpsuits ?
Alyssa Rosado that's a form of sexism
Alyssa Rosado prom was not worth my time effort or money. Litrally stood in a room with people I dont really like with a band that preppy kids picked :')
Alyssa Rosado go in a dress and change into a suit when you get inside.
My school doesn't have any code regulations for prom, just don't get drunk til after prom. These two boys turned up in a wheel barrel once, that was quite weird to see, one was sitting in it and the other was pushing 😂
That would be me and my best friend
our dresscode for German proms is decency and common sense
Larizzo らりっぞ In Sweden we don’t have any dress codes whatsoever lol
Pretty much same here in Ireland. Modesty, classy but not too short (bc it's not a disco).
Lilaz Mo "decency and common sense" bedeutet Anstand und gesunder Menschenverstand

She literally chose the schools with the most conservative dress codes -_- it's called psychology.
+Rylee Johnson how is that psychological lmao
even if it was one school in the whole USA it's too much. You can't tell kids what to wear unless you're their parent.
Have you ever had a job? There's a dress code in almost every area of life- get used to it.
You know School tries to put the blame on the women because they're dressing the way they want to dress course you can't go to school like half naked or anything but we want to be comfortable with some schools that have been banned tights sweatpants shorts and some muscle shirts for the women maybe instead of blaming the women they should teach the men to respect the women and not to stare can actually teach the men how to be young men I'm a 12 year old and I like to look good but I'm not girly I want to be comfortable in my clothes without looking weird I just wish that instead of blaming the women that they would teach the men how to be actual young respectable men
I totally agree with you. Why do we have to wear according to their needs? We want to be comfortable!!
OMG YES SO AGREEABLE like for girls with bigger breasts of course guys are gonna stare like teach them to be respectable SMH (I'm 13 btw)
So sad to hear this from such a young person. 12 y/o boys prob don’t even care!
Forget about the prom dresses, that dress that Kristin's wearing in the intro is 12/10 she looks so good
THANK YOU I WAS WONDERING WHERE THE DRESS AME FROM I NEED ONE IN MY LIFE
I honestly don't understand American dress codes? Especially for prom. In N Ireland we have a uniform for school, but for prom, there was no code. It was just assumed that we'd turn up in formal dresses, and we did. Some people wore strapless, some had a bit of cleavage showing, some people wore tighter dresses etc but they were all formal and acceptable for the occasion? It's insane to me the number of rules here.
LS Perry same in my country
Yeah some schools are really anal about it. My school is pretty liberal with dress code though..... That or they just don't care enough.
LS Perry my school doesnt really care
Yeah my school just expects us to have a set uniform with optional blazer. Prom is just formal dresses and tuxedos or suit jacket and kilt.
I'm American and had a similar dress code to you. I think the problem was girls were more and more trying to do the "Hollywood" thing (plunging necklines to the bellybutton, totally see-through except for the bikini areas, a two piece dress with quite a bit of stomach showing, etc.).
I'm sorry to every teenage boy ever IS MY ARMPIT FAT DISTRACTING YOU
Erin McHugh I died
I’m wearing a jumpsuit to prom.
The jumpsuit wouldn’t suit most of these guidelines.
I'm shocked. My high school did not have a prom dress code.
I skipped mine because the dress code was so ridiculous I couldn't find anything that fit the requirements. This was like 15 years ago, I assume it's even worse now.
My HS had no prom dress code either.
Mine doesn't
Lol, mine was like: "please, don't show up naked!"
Mine had no dress code either, I live in Washington State in America.
That girl who got turned away for wearing a suit pissed me off more than anything. The 1940s called and want their dress code back!
eizhowa it makes no sense to me it's not like she was showing skin or not being 'modest'
+FabFeline In the 1940s, a woman in trousers with a front zipper was considered vulgar. It seems to be equally unprogressive thinking at her school.
eizhowa exactly it's been almost 80 years technology has evolved so why haven't we
eizhowa It's disgusting she was dressed appropriately
"But they said no skin showing or touching other skin, im in a suit therefor i meet guild lines!"
The dress she wore at 3:20 was so beautiful on her oml Great Gatsby vibes
I just went 😱 because of the irony on great gatsby vibes on the dress and the fact this was last years UIl one act play for Crawford
Yah
That was literally one of my bridesmaid dresses. No one said we were dressed slutty. Everyone said we were beautiful.
yasss
When i was seven my school called me out for a "to short skirt" I WAS LITTERLY SEVEN IN SECOND GRADE
Megan L I'm from Oklahoma and the dress code for Broken Arrow was more strict than my school. Some girls about went to prom in bikinis
Paraclete is a religious school that's why
I'm from Mustang, Oklahoma and we have no prom dress code, but people still keep it classy and covered for the most part👍🏻
+Katie Onkst aye I'm from Tuttle oklahoma

My fave Rule was from Broken Arrow,OK: If a One Piece bathing suit covers an area, the dress must hast have opaque material in same area.
That's simple, and leave room for Alot of fasion
I'm just saying the rule is fair....Doesnt mean the school's not shite
MY Hs had some fair dance rules and was still shite
My prom dress did not follow that rule (a lot of my back was visible) but it was very classy. Even that rule might be too vague.
I go to a high school that's about 10 minutes from BA and all our dress codes around this area are the same and it's amazing
1930s style one-piece bathing suit or Kim Kardasian style one piece bathing suit though?
Keltarian that seems fair enough

Ok I'm here picturing an armpit gap and THAT SEEMS SO WEIRD
Cleavage is NOT in my vocabulary. I can get away with not wearing a bra and nobody will notice. I also have a little bit of armpit fat and I am as flat as a board. 😑
I'm so thankful that my prom dress code was basically "no exposed midriffs" and that's it.
Yet sooo many girls felt like that was an impossible standard.
Just the fact that there is a dress code for prom dresses in America...
Yeah, because some girls will wear as little fabric as humanly possible, so there has to be a dress code.
+Rylee Johnson why is that a problem if they feel comfortable and look good in it?? it's their body, they can choose to wear whatever they want
If someone gets mad at me for wearing a suit when I’m a “girl” I will look at them and say
What makes you think I’m a girl? And walk into prom
Oooo
Sameeeeee
I would say are you assuming my gender
This is the enby energy we need
High school dress codes are not only stupid they are also extremely sexist.
Thankfully when it came to prom the rules where much more relaxed than this, however only 1/5 of the year 11s could go (In England you only have a prom in year 6 and year 11 when you finish primary and secondary school)
grow up, there are people dying
+Candylover 449 and that doesn't mean you get undue privileges because of your gender, not because you deserve them.
Kaylee Pearce not really, men have their ENTIRE body covered. Pants, shirt, tie, blazer...
We have a dress code but then again our school is like "We don't give a crap, y'all don't follow the codes even if we are in school so have fun"

Yeah right. She is probably the ugliest person I have ever seen.

Awsamazing Eden the sad thing is I’m sure I’ve heard about girls going in suits and being turned away 😂😤

At my school ladies weren't allowed to wear suits not even pant suits if they were formal even the lesbians who dress like guys had to wear a dress cuz it was not right to wear pants if you were a girl at prom
Awsamazing Eden if your a female some schools actually wont let you
Awsamazing Eden for our proms we get to wear any thing but it can't show the bobs and the u know what I mean.My school is not in America tho so maybe that's why?
In the capital of Norway, Oslo, most high schools throw their proms outside school property. We usually rent a club or a theater, and you can dress however you want.
Marthe Håkonsen we also rent out a venue for prom that's outside of school but they still apply a dress code which is so stupid
wow, our last prom was crazy though, maybe better your way. Some took coke, others destroyed parts of the venue and two people had to get picked up by an ambulanse and brought to the hospital.
Marthe Håkonsen Sounds like one wild party.
(Australia's drinking age is 18)
According to these "dress codes" my prom dress wouldn't have been acceptable at any of these 5 schools.
and all men have to do is rent a black suit
Nele Tretow That's what I was thinking, too. They always praise how free the US are but in fact they don't even trust you on your clothing choices.
In America, though, people show up wearing miniskirts and lingerie. Trust me, for the sake of actually getting people to clothe themselves, dress codes are (unfortunately) required.
Alma Saon In Germany people come to school in miniskirts and stuff too so in my opinion dress codes are bs
Why? Because it's too "distracting." These rules wouldn't be unbearable, except for the fact that I live in southern Texas, where it gets over 100°F every year by may.
uh oh my knees are showing...how will the boys ever control themselves??
driscoll callan And make sure your shoulders are completely hidden... we don't want any of those distractions!
driscoll callan hahah
driscoll callan uh oh my shoulder is showing
Fock my arm pit is showing fockkkkkkkkk
driscoll callan THOSE SHOULDERS
If you wanna get paid more than at Walmart, anyway.
do you live in edmonton
That makes so sense seeing as most high schoolers will go on to college where there is literally 0 dress code. They don't immediately go work a white-collar job. Besides, any idiot would learn on their first interview that you can't dress trashy and expect to be taken seriously.
Do they give any reason for putting a dress code on proms? It's meant to be a night out, to have fun and dress up nice. Having such ridiculous prom codes goes against that. Like I kinda get dress codes in school, my high school had a uniform and that's a dress code as you can get. But you could wear what you wanted to the ball as long as it was formal.
Honestly dress codes in most jobs are just “don’t dress in anything as short as a bathing suit” at least in my experience unless they give you a specific uniform.
everyone forgets how laid back oklahoma is, we’re chill down here y’all
We don’t take our dress code too seriously, like the principal won’t come out with a ruler to measure my chest 😂
Galaxy Geek mine would and has.
Jay Kitty i believe that’s called sexual harassment, i would sue if i were you
uhh okay chill. it really depends on how he measured it and if it was with consent.
wait... girls have... ARmPitS?!?!?!
Fuuusel IKR! I NEVER KNEW THIS, I THOUGHT IT WAS SOME MYTHICAL PART THAT TOTALLY TURNS ON BOYS
Yes..we do
Shirin Heba this was probably commented by a girl y'know.. As a joke
Coollucky loves Ot sans k
You know I didn’t know girls even had shoulders but now that I’ve seen them I can’t look away and the armpits are hot
How is flesh touching flesh inappropriate you might as well cancel prom cause dancing with your boyfriend is flesh touching flesh just saying
Bird Band at Central they don’t follow that rule. They don’t follow all the codes for the dances. And please don’t make of Central.
Bird Band and also what if you have a double chin!
Bird Band YEAH
I think it was just someone's way of tryiing to define when too much breast is showing. The dress where Kristin made the armpit joke was probably acceptable.
My high school’s prom dress code was literally just “Remember your teachers are going to be there so don’t come half naked.”
Kristen's dress at the very beginning daaaaaaaaamn
Liz Ann my school 😏😂
If you applied all of these dress codes, wouldn't you have to wear a turtleneck, long sleeved, touching the floor dress?
Artistic Unicorn or a Trashcan
And a boy could be shirtless with a bandana around his head as long as he didn't have a cane. *SIGH*
Just wear a freaking Big trashcan :Sd
Artistic Unicorn so basically, your great grandmothers Christmas dress
NO BECAUSE UNDERNEATH IT THERE'S FLESH TOUCHING FLESH AND YOU CAN'T COVER YOU NECK. Man I love sarcasm.
Most of these dress codes are too extreme like seriously!
Wow I didn’t realize how lucky I was. We had 0 guide lines and we were a uniform catholic school 😅
I know this has nothing to do with the video... But my goodness that woman looks GORGEOUS with green hair! Holy cannoli
Dress codes for prom dresses?! Good thing that this doesn't exist in Germany 👌
YAS
Naja, eigentlich gibt es schon welche, aber die sind dann nur über die Schriften auf deinem Shirt usw
my towns high school held prom in Chicago (Huntley high school, the one that the chain smokers crashed) and the students were able to wear whatever
LUCKY
Same, the only dress code was "Don't come looking like a stripper." And I live in the south
I went to conant in Hoffman Estates and we too didnt have a dress code for prom
I go to saint Augustine
Evelynn Fetzer ,
I’m a “tomboy” and I hate dresses so imma just wear a suit to prom lmao
Why not wear a jumpsuit
U can also wear a romper!
Imagine being humiliated by being MEASURED at prom.
All these unfair rules...
The dress she’s wearing in the beginning before she even tries on the prom dresses is so cute!!
Penny J I know! I want it!
Women's clothing (ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT and TEENAGERS at that) should not be so restrictive. It's down right disrespectful.
this is shocking because i had no dresscodes for my prom dress.
It's prom. one of the last things you do. Give them some slack!
Yes the only rule should be dont come in like a swimsuit or lingerie- length stuff
my high school doesn't have a dress code. all the close by high schools have a strict one tho, so i'm not sure why we don't but i sure am thankful lol
t. During everyday school we're not allowed to wear open toe shoes, leggings, any shirt that shows any part of your back, spaghetti straps, sleeveless tops, and excessive jewelry or bracelets.
lucky. I can't wear tights. shorts. lowcut tops. skirts basically above the knee. it's so stupid
I'm gonna add the lack of dress code to my "Why I'm happy to be British" list 👌🏻
Okkenobi _ You have to wear uniforms tho
British here! I have a dress code like this and we have school uniform
Okkenobi _ Yes, but you guys have uniforms which is worse. They're even more restricting and identical.
I live in Australia and we don’t really have prom but we do have graduation. My schools rules for dresses is literally to take a photos of a dress you want and send it to one of the teachers and she will tell you if it is appropriate.
