Xyanide review!
Classic Game Room reviews XYANIDE for Xbox from Evolved Games released in 2006. After enjoying the amazing intro sequence, dive into a sub-par twin stick shooter space ship game and blast repetitive waves of enemies with lasers. Xyanide looks cooler than it is, and while this space ship shooter on Xbox has its moments, its best feature is the incredibly well made intro movie. CGR Xyanide video review has Xyanide gameplay recorded from the Xbox video game console!
CGR for life
Should I? Should I? Ah what the hell, why not? I'm the gamedesigner of this game (took after after it was a year in development), and although I haven't played this in a long time; I think Mark is a bit harsh here and there, but that's cool.
I do think however you should try it a bit more; because it sounds like he really didn't try too hard, used all existing footage, and ironically at the moment you say the background doesn't matter, you actually see the player shooting stuff in 3D space (yes, only mid-and endbosses), the rest takes place on a 2D plane. Anyway; cool to see people still playing/reviewing it!
I actually really enjoyed this game.
I’ve scoured the ends of the earth for this game! It’s so hard to find! I will cherish a copy forever!
Really, Mark!!?!? This game is great. You have to try it again!
First channel I look for when seing a new game I might like. Thank you for keeping this uploaded, much appreciated 👍
Very much on point. I had the exact same thoughts when I played this game almost ten years ago
The background is just way too busy.
CGR is the best channel of UA-cam!
Being an old school gamer myself, I usually agree with the reviews that Mark creates here. This time however, I'm going to have to disagree with him. XYANIDE is one of those sh'umps that won't really pull you in at first when it comes to gameplay. When I first bought it back in 2007, I have to admit, I wasn't really impressed. But something kept nagging at me to give it another chance, so I continued to play it. And you know what? It actually grew on me. Here's the thing: the further you progress in Xyanide, the deeper the gameplay gets. Yep, visually it's quite beautiful, and that can ultimately prove to be a bit distracting, but once you learn to ignore the awesome surroundings and focus on the somewhat intimidating yet deep weapons system, it's definitely possible to progress far into the game and enjoy yourself while doing so! So yes, on the surface, this game doesn't seem like much, but I stuck with it and discovered a rather deep and enjoyable game. Think of it this way: you know the song that you really didn't like when you first heard it, but after hearing it awhile, you actually began to like it, and now it's one of your favorites? Well, XYANIDE is one of those songs..... for me at least!
Wow! This looks so cool! 4:00
7800 ProSystem, love those tech words. Pro... heheh nice
My favorite rail shooter of that era was Rez on the PS2. Such a cool game!
From the sound of it, this gives me a very Microcosm like vibe - a crazy, elaborate back story to an on rails shooter.
Panzer Dragoon Orta was the best rail shooter of all time.
+Marth the Satrun Panzer Dragoons were better tbh
I'd say Sin & Punishment: Star Successor
+Thryhring That's a great game too.
funny thing is before seeing this video I was going to get this game but thanks to your review I'm no longer sold.
If Mark doesn't like it...it must be REALLY bad.
+Jerry Joe My thoughts exactly. lol
Not really. He likes some shitty games and doesn't like other shitty games. Conversely he likes decent games that take time to get into and figure out (Apache Air Assault) but isn't as forgiving in other cases.
This reminds me of Silpheed on SEGA CD, a game I love. BUT it's just pre-recorded video backgrounds, or at least it seems that way.
I found a copy in my local retro stores bargain bin for $5. It's definitely a rare one to come by. I thought it was pretty good myself.
i picked this up when it was fairly new and still have it sitting in my living room, honestly i had fun when i first got it. not sure how it would hold up now though.
+catcrapinahat I got this game a few years ago myself...it's not really as bad as Mark made it out to be. I had fun playing too but it did tend to drag on a bit and was just too difficult for my tastes.
philberto1978
yea i never did beat it, im bad at shumps as it is. really wanted to beat it but it kicked my butt more than once.
Awesome review Mark, but yeah some games do look much better when someone else is playing it.
How long have you had that into for? Legend!
I had fun watching Mark playing XYANIDE ...poor guy !
"It's more fun to watch than to actually play it." That's how I feel about Telltale's modern games.
What original Xbox games would you recommend?
I was thinking of getting Xyanide: Ressurection for the PSP.
Seems like a game that would have come out on the Sega CD or the Pioneer Laseractive. So many of those games were like this.
I think Xyanide Resurrection on the PSP was alright. Don't know if it's the same version though
That's the sequel.
A game that's more fun to watch than to play? THIS is the kind of game that needs a film adaptation, not Resident Evil, Mario, House of the Dead, etc.
my thoughts exactly
Does this game run on a Xbox 360?
...Scott weiland... Rest In Peace
Very fair review. All style, no substance.
Still play this game for the awesome presentation, though.
1:33 And the intro probably where the budget went!
Too bad there really are a lack of good "new" shootem ups on the console and this had a potential to be something really grand. Sucks it did not come together as nicely as it should have.
That game blew my subwoofer out!
it looks more inspired by Einhander than Geometry Wars. Geometry wars doesn't have any dramatic story or intense background video.
The Original Geometry Wars was epic!
It seems like it's a more modern version of those horrible laser disc shooters from the early 80s...
+Kristina Asteroids?
If Mark doesn't like it, the game was actually approved by Heyzus the coked-up chicken.;p
if I played this game for like two hours I would probably puke because I'm currently looking at the background and constantly looking at the spaceship
alien kid reminds me of akira
metal jesus rocks told me this was a great game so i got it and play'ed it once,to much shit going off in the background almost to the point of it being unplayable,im with mark on this one,now if this game was on the vectrex it would have been awesome.
Not sure If the PS2 game is more or less the same but if so I've got to agree, it's not very good, the first stage was just the same background from start to finish with never ending waves of samey looking enemies, the boss fight wasn't great either.
The PS2 game is the sequel to this one.
I agree the first stage is too bland, but the game gets better quickly.
This looks like an old fmv game like Starblade. Those Games also Look amazing, but the gameplay isn't too Great.
Worser??
It's like "Tiny Tank" on the PS1. Same thing, they should've been making animated movies because as much as I wanted the game to be good, it wasn't but! The intro was awesome!
I agree its not a great game and its not that cheap for some reason.
Damn. I own this game and always skipped the intro.
Knew a guy who worked on this game. It was not a good experience at all.
Mark your right this game is so boring! After the cool intro it goes to hell!
Sorry but I really don't get what's supposed to be bad about this game..
+CarozQH Can you see what's supposed to be fun about it?
BelatedGamer It looks like an okay shooter to me.
CarozQH I dunno, the backgrounds look really noisy and it seems kind of slow. Also; lame explosion effects. That's without playing it, mind you, for all I know it gets amazing later.
first
I was the 69th like
It does stink when a game has so much promise but the gameplay gets boring real quickly.
this looks like a generic video game you see someone playing in a movie while hitting random buttons
At 3:40 is a complete ripoff of the death star in Return of the Jedi.
Theres an N-Gage version of this game.....just let that sink in.....
"Geometry wars, but worser" lol
