One thing I really like about Burnout 2 is that they improved on the collision detection. Compared to the first game, you could actually bump into traffic and walls without wiping out. In the first game, pretty much everything made you crash even if you barely tipped it.
Man, what a throwback. Had so many fun memories with this as a kid. The crash event mode or whatever it was called was a blast as well. Too bad I had a GameCube so I was severely disappointed to find out that Burnout 3 along with later installments on 6th gen consoles were on PS2 and Xbox only. Sad life.
This was when gaming was fun and cool. Burnout 2 felt like an arcade racer back in the day. The controls were amazing, and the music went well with the action. The later versions focused more on open world gameplay that did not excite me, crashes and mayhem. I like an arcade style fixed track and more power drifting. This was when criterion was handling business on their own without freaking EA. I would like them to re-do an arcade style burnout that we all loved.
you chain burnouts by successfully using your boost in one go (holding down the boost button) without wrecking or letting go of boost. a burnout refills it immediately. I chained 10 together on paradise
This has to be one of my favourite PS2 games of all time. Pure arcade racing at it's absolute best it's not as flashy or intricate as Burnout 3 onwards but it sure as hell is fun. And my god the soundtrack for this game is incredible big surf shores and sunrise valley especially.
Burnout 3 I love the most, but barely played 1 and 2 and while 1 was cool, but burnout 2 is awesome. Burnout never got the Pursuit mode again until Burnout Legends and Burnout Paradise as a DLC.
@@TheFurryInShambles What a polite chap. That's fair Burnout 3 is a lot of peoples favourite and I can certainly see why it's got that vibe that just makes you want to keep on going. Fantastic game for a fantastic series.
My favorite arcade racer. Looks great, even now, great original music, great crash mode-such wonderful memories. I first had the PS2 version, which looks amazing on that console, but when I found out that the X-Box version had extra crash levels, I had to pick that up too. If I had owned a Game Cube at the time, I would likely have got that one as well.
I swear drifting in this game is heaven (just like dominator where 3 was super lacking in that since burnout 3 always had oversteering when you finished the drift). Best 3d 3th person truly arcade racer iv ever played.
Another choice racing game back in the day that I loved was San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing on the N64! Simply because the physics and logic in that game made absolutely no sense! Nothing felt more satisfying in that game than to hit something just right and watch as your car catapults wildly into the air, flipping over itself nearly a hundred times until it explodes in a fiery heap! Technically it's not a great racer... but MAN was it one of the most entertaining games to see what would happen if you drove badly on purpose.
Man I loved the first 3 Burnout games so much, I got burnout 1 with my PS2 (I picked it over GTAIII). I really miss the super long tracks they had in 1 that was just a series of tracks stitched together into one really long 20minute race, it was great. HD collection when?
Always loved the Burnout series, and the first few in the series, made via Renderware, were fantastic. The first two were cracking arcade racers before they became car combat titles. The need to not blink was overwhelming! The original is fantastic too, and it felt a little like all my favourite movie chase scenes wrapped into one game. Well worth checking out, if you haven't already, is Burnout Legends on the PSP, which brings the best of the first couple of games to the handheld.
i miss burnout games they really did bring that arcade feel to the consol which not many racers have done its just plain fun. but after paradise it just stoped showing up ; ; so sad great video btw.
For frame miester on og xbox you should use component cables. get the official ones at that with nice on with the break out box. i had alot of trial and error with the og xbox and its various component cables. finally got what i wanted out of the official one.
You should consider using YPbPr component for recording on original Xbox. You can get a cleaner 480p image instead of 480i on RGB SCART. Also, the Xbox's video encoder applies a flicker filter to soften the image when it outputs 480i, but disables it on 480p, adding even more clarity to the image on 480p.
I played the shit out of this game when I was younger. Great racing and missions, but the Crash Mode took a TON of my time. So much freaking fun. I liked Burnout 3 a bit, but I much preferred Burnout 2.
wow, i haven't even powered on my original xbox for a few years & I had forgot just how much the games reminds me of Dreamcast. I miss the original xbox days online,
It won't be an official "Burnout" title as EA have, most likely, kept the "Burnout" trademark for themselves. the old developers will have to create a new IP.
What? Haven't you played the Midnight Club franchise? Those games to me are highly superior. Driving games is my most hated genre, but I enjoyed Midnight Club 3 (I think it was). Enough said.
Awesome, this is one of my favorite games EVER. I love how Burnout 2 is very much about skillful driving, instead of focusing on crashes like the later entries. Still need to get that 1000x Burnout chain on Big Surf Shores someday. My current record is at 350x.
Holyshit. 350x? Impressive, *most* impressive. I thought that I was the king of burnout chains but that's on another level. Great stuff. It's a shame that they nerfed the skill + risk/reward mechanic with burnouts in the later titles. It was the part of the game that I enjoyed the most.
Yeah, me too. Trying to get that perfect lap and then nailing it is so satisfying. I actually recorded my last burnout chain record attempt, you can see it on my channel (I just published it). I saw a small grainy video once of someone getting to 1000x burnouts, at which point the game stops counting and just shows "burnout xWOW". So I know it's possible, but it would require 2 hours and 15 minutes of non-stop play, which is inhumanly long.
Astfgl That's wild, I'll check it out. I was glad that Criterion included a Burnout 2 style boost system with chains into Burnout Paradise. While I liked B3 and Revenge, the ability to boost anytime took away the novelty of it for me. They got the risk/reward thing perfect in Burnout 2 which was great for skilled players (like yourself).
It's very doable my only time ever doing it in the typical 3 lap race was a 27x chain but I like to keep trying nowadays. Unfortunately the PS2 doesn't have as many exploits as the XBOX version does which is a shame.
My favorite racing game! I've spent hours on it, and unlocked everything; the super car is amazing. It's my favorite because the driving is so satisfying. A perfect drift feels so nice. All of the Burnouts (and many other racers) have good drifting, but two has the best combination of everything, to me. I don't like open world racing, where you have to drive around to find the next race, or when the screen is filled up with special effects and you can't see where you're going. Burnout two has everything you need, that's why I still play it when I've got the chance.
Burnout 3 is awesome, People don't collect for the PS2 per se, so I got it off eBay last year for two dollars complete. I saw Mike and James play it on their show and it is a series I somehow missed. I don't know anything about this game, so this will review will be interesting I'm sure.
You can get a component to d-terminal adapter for the Framemeister and be able to display in progressive scan. SCART can only do up to 480i. Get an adapter like this. solarisjapan.com/products/d-terminal-to-component-adapter-cable-female
Always owned 3, but I rented this one a few couple times and loved my time with it. Because of the lack of takedowns, it felt more like a pure racing game. Burnout 2 - Revenge were the total shit!
I love Burnout, so upset when Paradise came out and it was open world. I don't want open world I want a set path so I can focus on going mach 10 and not crashing. Revenge was the last really fun one. |:
Mark stick with Component for all your 7th gen+ games, framemeister does not do too well with 480. Especially with games that support 480p which is only with Component cables.
You should definitely pick it up. I lost a weekend playing the GC version earlier this year. That era was really great for fans of arcade style racing games.
FerrariKangaroo I agree, I've had the first GC Burnout for years, and just never bothered to get the 2nd one for whatever reason. So yeah like I said I'll keep my eyes open till I can find a copy at a decent price.
Loved this game myself, and Burnout 3 even surpassed it, to this day it remains in my top 3 favorite racing games ever with the likes of Sega Rally 1995.
if you drive with bravado while boosting you can get X multipliers on your boost, near misses, incoming lane, jumps and the like ... I think it goes up to ten but it's been a while since i played this gem, you can get round some courses never taking your finger of the boost button lol :D
This was the most exciting thing in the game, with every boost added to the row it got more nerve wrecking. Rarely made it above 2-3 if at all, but loved the game anyway.
Europeans use Component today as well. RGB Scart is really only usefull for games that force you tho use 480interlaced mode. So i use RGB Scart only on Ps2.
Akseli Janhunen Thats fine choice for Ps2/3 but for Xbox... the best is Component Cables.... well for modded Xbox ^^ for normal PAL Xbox component looks as shitty as Ps2 Components with the 480i mode.
1:07 I swear to god these cars were always there and after some time I just learned how to drift between them, because side drift had a certain spot which you could hit and still not crash By the way, do Burnout 3! espro yep burnout 2 on ps2 outputs at 480p but you can higher with gm selector , as for the original xbox just the component cables alone look great, i haven't found an app for the original xbox that forces progressive scan, other than using a 360
Definitely the most skill-based burnout game of the franchise
One thing I really like about Burnout 2 is that they improved on the collision detection. Compared to the first game, you could actually bump into traffic and walls without wiping out. In the first game, pretty much everything made you crash even if you barely tipped it.
The double boost is done by consistently driving skillfully while holding boost, it allows you to boost continuously for the entire race
Also known as "Burnout Chain", dang I miss this game. Cool to see they implemented that game concept/mechanic into Paradise.
Sad life.
Ahhhhhh the days before all that dlc bs, when games were full games.
Geordi La Forge agreed ikr

This is one of my most favorite games of all time. My Army brothers and me turned it into a drinking game. For every crash everyone drinks.

Yessss, Big Surf Shores when you activate the boost!!💛😎
That blue and red Burnout 2 car looks like Daytona's Hornet. Even the handling appears to be similar.
The original creators of Burnout have a spiritual successor in development. Keep an eye on Three Fields Entertainment
I swear drifting in this game is heaven (just like dominator where 3 was super lacking in that since burnout 3 always had oversteering when you finished the drift). Best 3d 3th person truly arcade racer iv ever played.

Never played this one but Burnout 3 is one of my favourite games of all time. I'm not even a big fan of racing games either.
Split second carries the burnout heritage pretty good.
Why bother with the Framemeister over Xbox component? Is it really significantly better?
For frame miester on og xbox you should use component cables. get the official ones at that with nice on with the break out box. i had alot of trial and error with the og xbox and its various component cables. finally got what i wanted out of the official one.

Im pretty sure I saw Magnum Skywolf in the Beastie Boys Sabotage music video
This looks way faster then I remember. I played the GameCube version which is great.
I played the shit out of this game when I was younger. Great racing and missions, but the Crash Mode took a TON of my time. So much freaking fun. I liked Burnout 3 a bit, but I much preferred Burnout 2.
He forgot to add the police chase segment
wow, i haven't even powered on my original xbox for a few years & I had forgot just how much the games reminds me of Dreamcast. I miss the original xbox days online,
Burnout 2 was Burnout done right. Loved this one, thoroughly enjoyed 3, and hated Paradise. The rest, all fell somewhere in between.
Have you played test drive off road wide open for the xbox as well? that ones a gem!
Less NFS & more Burnout plz EA, I'm so tired of the NFS series!
It won't be an official "Burnout" title as EA have, most likely, kept the "Burnout" trademark for themselves. the old developers will have to create a new IP.
since the criterion members left why not EA give the IP to ghost so they could make a new burnout game
Less Burnout an more NFS without cops in it and lots of jumps added please!
Earning boost by drifting... the exact same thing Mark said was stupid in Ridge Racer 7. But in this game , it's OK.
Burnout 2 is AMAZING and one of my fav ps2 games, Burnout 3 and revenge are even better, criterion is talented af
Nice this runs well in widescreen
this plus bonkers 7 on my xbox original = awesome
its not burnout without the pop rock and takedowns
Burnout is the best street racing on the PS2.
What? Haven't you played the Midnight Club franchise? Those games to me are highly superior. Driving games is my most hated genre, but I enjoyed Midnight Club 3 (I think it was). Enough said.
Ciro Galli I played burnout when it first came out. It blew me away.
The third game will be my all time favourite, this one is not as good, but it is better than the first one (my opinion).
I loved 3 better, but this is just as good.
Yes. I like Burnout 3: Takedown better too. But this one is pretty solid.
burnout revenge right? ya it was the last one i played...and my favorite as well.
+All Access Gaming yea, burn out 3 was the last burn out I enjoyed.
Z32Z32 Same! Three is the last one I find fun.
these games need to be remastered, like fuck
so much fun my record was 86 boost chain on big surf shore in free run.
I just bought it for the Gamecube and can't wait to crash into everything! Thanks for the review, Sir Karnage!
so i am guessing the frame meister doesn't record component, or mark just doesn't have original xbox component cables ?
Awesome, this is one of my favorite games EVER. I love how Burnout 2 is very much about skillful driving, instead of focusing on crashes like the later entries. Still need to get that 1000x Burnout chain on Big Surf Shores someday. My current record is at 350x.

Ohhhhh yes, one of my favorite racing games, right behind Burnout Revenge.
I was never a racing game fan, but I loved this series....3 and paradise were the ones I played, and I am sad to hear they wont be making any more.
Though not as awesome as Paradise or Burnout 3. The older titles are still solid and worth a looker.
Good to see the intro with Stella is back :)

I will never stop loving this channel
we all need a current gen burnout
my very first ps2 game.
I loved burnout paradise so much
Still have it :) a damn good game!!
You should know how to do burnout chains if you played Burnout Paradise.
Played this game to death on the PS2. Still remains my favourite Burnout above Paradise and the original.
I remember renting this game from Blockbuster and I hated how you'd smash the shit out of the cars.
my favorite burnout.. play the ps2 version with a logitech steering wheel and you will be amazed!! also , why scart? component is the way to go..
This game was so cool! Would crash on purpose all the time just cos of how awesome it looked
Criterion, release all Burnout in a remastered pack for pc, with Xbox graphics!
Burnout 3 is awesome, People don't collect for the PS2 per se, so I got it off eBay last year for two dollars complete. I saw Mike and James play it on their show and it is a series I somehow missed. I don't know anything about this game, so this will review will be interesting I'm sure.

Secretly the best Burnout game. Also, someone needs to teach Mark how to chain his Burnouts. It makes the game infinitely more fun.
my favourite burnout by far.
Always owned 3, but I rented this one a few couple times and loved my time with it. Because of the lack of takedowns, it felt more like a pure racing game. Burnout 2 - Revenge were the total shit!
Yup, though Revenge was more like... well Burnout 4 really basically after EA came in and shat all over the franchise.
Roll Cage, great games, I'd like to see what you think.
I love Burnout, so upset when Paradise came out and it was open world. I don't want open world I want a set path so I can focus on going mach 10 and not crashing.
Revenge was the last really fun one. |:
Thanks for the review! I played this a gazillion hours. Nice to see it again. keep up the good work.
time to get myself a beer and watch some new CGR
Mark stick with Component for all your 7th gen+ games, framemeister does not do too well with 480. Especially with games that support 480p which is only with Component cables.
6th Gen ^^ Xbox is 6th Gen. I prefer RGB scart for Ps2 ... 480i looks like shit with Component.
+TsunaTsurugi component is the best you can get out of any ps2 game and 480p looks gorgeous. RGB looks identical to Component so it's no contest.
WarriorOfRock Component only look great with 480p or 720p but if you play a game in 480i (as with most Ps2 games sadly) it looks like composite.
+TsunaTsurugi Component is miles better than composite, that's absolutely a lie. It looks miles cleaner than shitty composite.
WarriorOfRock Didnt notice a diffrence when the game was in interlaced mode.
i bought this at launch back in the day, amazing fun game. suprised you didnt reall mention the amazing crash mode
Looks great, I'll have to keep my eyes open for a GameCube copy for sure.
This game was amazing. Especially the crash mode. CRASH MODE WAS AMAZING
the best burnout of all! thx for reviewing this!
Loved this game myself, and Burnout 3 even surpassed it, to this day it remains in my top 3 favorite racing games ever with the likes of Sega Rally 1995.
burnout 2 is the best arcade style racer ever made !
This is the best racing game in the Burnout series...when you nail a clean drift at ridiculous speeds it's just the best feeling!!!
It really is as well... my record burnout chain is 27x thanks almost exclusively to drifting. What an awesome game.
Rad Zach Review agreed
I'd say _3_ was the best, but this was still good.
can I play this game on xbox 360 S?
Wohoo one of my favorite BurnOuts (after the Revenge)
Alrighty, hopefully someone donates Burnout 3: Takedown. Best burnout in the series!
if you drive with bravado while boosting you can get X multipliers on your boost, near misses, incoming lane, jumps and the like ... I think it goes up to ten but it's been a while since i played this gem, you can get round some courses never taking your finger of the boost button lol :D
It goes to 999 I think. I remember being able to go a full race without losing the multiplier and I ended up with a x36 boost.
This was the most exciting thing in the game, with every boost added to the row it got more nerve wrecking. Rarely made it above 2-3 if at all, but loved the game anyway.
Scart? why not get a component cable ?
Europeans use Component today as well. RGB Scart is really only usefull for games that force you tho use 480interlaced mode. So i use RGB Scart only on Ps2.
Akseli Janhunen Thats fine choice for Ps2/3 but for Xbox... the best is Component Cables.... well for modded Xbox ^^ for normal PAL Xbox component looks as shitty as Ps2 Components with the 480i mode.
SCART is more nostalgic IMO.
i thought mark review burnout 3 takedown...
1:07
I swear to god these cars were always there and after some time I just learned how to drift between them, because side drift had a certain spot which you could hit and still not crash
By the way, do Burnout 3!
Oh and Burnout creator already teased that they are targeting a kickstarter game in spirit of Burnout.
The best Burnout.
Someone have beta/alpha build of Burnout 2?
What? Why not show any of the crashing mode?
Probably doesn't want to get done for drunk driving ;) Though I will say I never thought such chaos would come from such a simple sentence "Go Left or Right, the choice is yours". I swear in this game I must've caused more property damage than a Michael Bay movie.
Burnout 2: Burn Harder
This is a game that could benefit greatly from some form of Off-TV play.
legendary
when Criterion Games actually made games....
I was curious to actually look up if the original xbox live still up... and.. nope of course not. Dead since 2010
Developer's Cut !? Differences ..?
Custom Car Skins and I think it had a few extra crash courses as well.
I love burnout!
I wish they still made arcade racers like this but they don't. what a shame.
godrulztheearth agreed games nowadays have better graphics but don’t the fun factor that older games had
1:38
Why SCART? In my opinion component seems better.
seems better? lol it is better! it's 480p you can't do that on rgb :D
Kaito .Link it can even output 720p or 1080i. Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 as example :).
espro yep burnout 2 on ps2 outputs at 480p but you can higher with gm selector , as for the original xbox just the component cables alone look great, i haven't found an app for the original xbox that forces progressive scan, other than using a 360
+Kaito .Link there are custom bios that force 480p for all games
***** i do :). Softmod is freaking easy to made. You need just cheap 1 bucks USB cable from China.
Incredible game
It looks like a budget title.
YEAAAH (in New Jersey reverb voice)
This is and always will be my favorite Burnout game. Crash mode, 2 player versus, no open world. Just drifting, racing, and crashing!
DEJA VU
2003? This game came out in 2002.
Or maybe it came out in 2003 for the XBOX?
Probably I suspect that's why it's the Directors Cut version because it has the extra features.
It was originally released in 2002 on the ps2 but it came out for the Xbox In 2003
