Here's why Samsung made a mistake with the S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra!

  • I think it's a mistake. Regardless of how much you use the S Pen on your Galaxy Ultra phone, it was a silly conversation to open up in a year when you didn't have anything else to distract us with. If you're going to remove a feature like that, you'd better dazzle us with lots of new hardware.

It doesn't matter whether you used it or not, it is a very slippery slope and if we don't call it out they WILL keep removing features to cut costs and line their pockets more and more. It would be more understandable on a device with a smaller price tag, but when you are still paying top of the line prices? And make no mistake Samsung will never pass those cost savings down to their customers who they seem to hold in contempt. I mean who are they kidding? the s25 ultra is supposed to be able to last for 7 years 5000mah battery and 12gb of ram? I had that 3 years ago. I said months before the 25 ultra was released, that samsung is going to have to offer me an amazing deal to get me to upgrade from me s22 ultra and they have in no way done that. since the s22 ultra the camera has been nerfed and now the Spen. So samsung have failed i am keeping my s22 ultra for at least another year if not 2 if they don't come back next year with some massive upgrades, no way am I paying $$$$$ for something objectively worse than what I already have. No way.

  • @bricequirl

The Bluetooth S Pen on the Ultra is almost exclusively a *luxury* feature. But that's the whole point of wanting and having the Ultra: to be lavish. It's about loving and owning all those over-the-top features. Samsung removing Bluetooth from the S Pen drives a stake in the heart of what the Ultra (Note) represents. The Ultra should NEVER lose features -- features should only get better, with more of them. Period.
Personal opinion: Samsung nerfing the Ultra S Pen has more to do with future releases than cost cutting. I believe they did it to bring it in-line with the S Pen that will be included with the Fold7 being released this summer. Just my two cents.

  • @bankaimaster999

The strange thing about this is that outside this "S-Pen, no bluetooth, fake outrage" is that a bunch of people already reported that the bluetooth functionality with the air gestures and whatnot was wonky AF, when it worked it was good but it didn't consistently work properly.
So the only real feature that consistently worked was the remote shutter function ... that's it.
People not outraged because of the S-Pen and the ones that are loud about it are just on the Samsung hate bandwagon.
The real reason people are upset with Samsung is that the S25U didn't bring any useful hardware innovations and features, they relied solely on AI with no mention on features unique to the device, they played it too safe at our expense, charge us premium for an Ultra model that wasn't distinctly "Ultra" and then the cherry on top is they removed a unique hardware feature (which was the S-Pen bluetooth/battery/charging) instead of giving us something new - even if it wasn't about the S-Pen. I'm sure if Samsung removed the S-Pen bluetooth and gave full MagSafe hardware with the reasoning that they had to give up the bluetooth for complete magsafe + S-pen compatibilty, without a stupid case; most people would have accepted it to some degree OR at least gave us a silicon-carbon battery at 6000mah on the Ultra only removing the S-pen bluetooth and some people would also be ok with it given the benefits of the newer battery.
ALL those points are the actual reasons why people are enraged over Samsung's actions and its not solely because the S-Pen doesn't have bluetooth, but since it's a trend to use that as the talking point/meme then that's what everyone focuses on for views.
If you have an S22U or lower, it has enough hardware worthy to update to as its just an "S24U+" lacking S-Pen bluetooth. The SD8 Elite/non-grainy screen issues and better camera quality are better than the S24U, so just go for that ONLY IF you can get a reasonable deal for it and you not hung up on the S-Pen thing. You can go to the other brands as well but people should be honest enough to say when considering the S25U is reasonable instead of this knee-jerk reaction to say "Don't buy it, its garbage, its a bad phone, never upgrade to it, you not missing anything whatsoever" - that's just lying at that point.

Ehh, I'm a s22 user and I was actually looking to upgrade & tradein my phone with Samsung, but I decided against it because of the S pen. I'd rather just get the newest pixel or iPhone when they're released instead. The bluetooth controls were wonky, but not being able to use the S pen as the camera shutter is a deal breaker for me. I don't really go outside with others and most of my photos are the result of me propping the phone up and using the s-pen to spam photos of myself.
I'd rather just go with a phone with a better camera instead and keep my s22 as my backup. I'm also not a big fan of rewarding phone companies for removing features either.

I am curious to know how people most commonly utilize the S Pen. As someone who also values the Bluetooth functionality of the S Pen, it is unfortunate that this feature is missing. However, I find that the device still performs well in all other aspects.
For instance, you can still use hand gestures to take photos or issue commands like 'Say cheese,' along with other voice commands.

Delicious Steve, removing the choice is what angers me. I won't give Samsung a pass on this one. I won't own a ring or watch either, to replace those functions, nor do I pl an to buy either. I hate the rounded frame, too. They now have went full iPhone imitator!

The only reason I upgraded is that I’m a fan of technology, never keep a phone for more than a year, and can financially afford it. Everything you said is true, and I agree with you. However, these companies don’t really listen to us users-they do whatever they want.
In fact, most people who didn’t upgrade didn’t hold back because of the S Pen, so to speak. They know that eventually, they’ll either have to adopt the new model or switch to another brand, which is highly unlikely. The ones who stayed on their current device either couldn’t afford the upgrade for various reasons or could have but chose not to burden themselves financially this year. There’s no other group.
Remember all the talk about the headphone jack, SD card slot, and other removed features? Did anyone actually refuse to upgrade indefinitely because of those changes? If there were people like that, they’re now stuck with outdated hardware. I’d love to hear from anyone who fits that category.

Where I feel Samsung messed up is they should've removed the S-Pen from the S25 Ultra entirely and replaced it with a larger battery and maybe an extra processing or camera component or maybe something that aids in even better cellular ability. Something to make the phone function even better than it currently does, and add the built in BT S-Pen to the Z Fold. Focus on the Galaxy S Series as the ultimate phone/camera experience and the Fold Series as the ultimate multitasker. For as much as I love my BT S-Pen this has always made much more sense to me. Plus I don't think too many people would complain if they felt they were getting something in exchange for the BT S-Pen as opposed to losing out on something

400$ you could’ve kept in your pocket 👏👏👏👏👏👏I love this. As a pre-Samsung fanboy, after the Note 7 Samsung turned to garbage. Reignited with the 10 series then went downhill ever since. Stagnant and don’t know what to do

Had every Note device except for Note 4. It all started when Samsung removed MST (touchless payment via magnetic reader) and then iris scanner. Some features like air actions may not be used commonly, but it adds to the wow factor when you show it off to your friends which will result in more sales. Keep adding cool features even though not enough people are using them. We sure are paying more than enough money to cover these features.

Samsung is a penny wise and pound foolish.
This is clearly polarizing for all the reasons you mentioned.
    Proof is in the sales.
1TB S25 Ultra has not sold out like it did in previous years.

If I had the money I would buy it based on the design alone I love the new design. The big boxy looking design is what kept me from buying the ultra for the past few years. As far as I'm concerned I couldn't care less about the s pen I wouldn't really use it anyway. For me, I like the design of the S25U and the fact that it has an upgraded chip makes it even better.

People moaned when the SD card slot went, people moaned when the headphone jack went, people moaned when the charging block went. Yet everyone continues to buy these phones. Samsung know they can and will get away with this.
That said, the S25U is still an amazing phone and is definitely worth buying whilst the pre-order deals are still on if you have an older device like me (S22U). If I had an S24U I wouldn't be upgrading either.
I got mine on order for £800 in the UK. A pixel 9 pro xl with the same 512gb memory I've ordered is around £1300. Similar price for an iPhone 16 pro max. There's no way either of those are worth £500 more to me. Even the OP13 is more expensive at the moment.

The nerfing of the s pen is an old school marketing technique that was crafted to make fans hungry for more... It is well utilized in the automotive industry... People change cars interiors and sometimes removing gestures from cars to later return with extra features in coming years. Samsung is cooking the more with the next line up release...
If you keep giving a glass full of water to people who are already full of water they will end up puking... So the best thing to do is to wait until they are thirsty again or better dry them out with hot weather so they will be begging for water

I am sensing that they are watching all of our reactions and i think they will do something about it. Now we have to wait and see what they would do, if they sell a new pen its a disaster fingers crossed.

Samsung always claimed the reason for no mag safe charging was because the Bluetooth S pen interferes. So why no mag safe charging on the S25U? (Without needing a special case, that is). Another youtuber said Samsung told him thry want people to use the Galaxy watch or ring to take remote pics, so basically it's a ploy to sell the watch & ring. I have a Galaxy watch but it has far less functionality esp with the camera features than the Bluetooth S pen does, & who wants to wear a Smart watch or Galaxy ring with dressed up outfits?
