This game brought me back memories tears when I was a young kid playing Popeye for the Atari 2600 before I had a Nintendo Entertainment System during the early 80’s. I will never forget the 80’s games that lead me like video games until then, now and forever.
Wow, amazing what the kids have today... I remember getting this when it first came out and was amazed at the graphics.. To be young again in the 70s/80's ---
I remember my dad buying me this game, only problem was when I tried to play it the screen was jumping up and down all the time every game worked except for this one I'm convinced it was an import!
You left out of the description that the blinking green light that shifts its location throughout each round is the spinach, and Popeye is able to briefly neutralize Bluto if he's able to get the spinach.
I remember like a dummy Brutus used to still come towards you after you got the spinach 😂😂😂😂😂😂 and that transition between stages would give an old person a heart attack
A pretty decent port, though with games like Pitfall II and Kung-Fu Master showing off the Atari's true capabilities, it shows that they could've done better, at least graphics wise. The gameplay is darn solid, though.
Don't forget the Colecovision version between that console and nes way much better than 2600 oh yeah until they destroyed the remake on PS4 and Switch it's all messed up. 😑
It does have all three screens but it went away from what the arcade version has on the second level where Wimpy is on the seesaw and Sweet Pea is floating with the balloon.
No Seahag Sweet pea or Wimpy. I didn't know about Sweet pea and the Seahag being in the game until the NES and I didn't know about Wimpy until I played the arcade version
Perhaps the best way to sum this game up is to call it a lesser version of Donkey Kong that will appeal to fans of the the Popeye cartoons. That's not saying it's a bad game at all, but it does lack the charm of a lot of arcade games from that era. And, it does get awfully repetitive in a hurry.

Excellent port for a system that was designed for 2 paddles with 2 balls bouncing back and forth

The music is funny to listen.
This is an incredible port, one of the best on the 2600!
Excelente, poder relembrar, a música nunca saiu da mente.
By 2600 standards, the Parker Bros arcade ports were generally pretty good.
Okay, I just laughed when he punched Bluto from the other side of the screen.
All things considered, this is one of the better arcade ports for the 2600 (WAAAY better than Pac-man was!) Even has music accurate to the arcade.
The Atari 2600 generally has fairly great ports overall. It’s just that Pac Man is considered one of its most infamous ones
I like this port very much.
This was my favourite game on the Atari 2600 (when I was a kid in the 1980s).
I remember my dad buying me this game, only problem was when I tried to play it the screen was jumping up and down all the time every game worked except for this one I'm convinced it was an import!
Excellent port. It is missing somethings, but is worlds above Coleco’s Donkey Kong ports.
Thanks, for the Memories!
Great port.
Love Popeye's disintegration SFX when he's killed.

Atari 2600 one of my favorite system way before my time I wasn't born until 95
I played that game and this is the first time that I noticed the heart counter top left!!!!! 🤪

All the stages are mirrored down the middle. I wonder if that was done to save memory...
It makes me laugh when Bluto disappears into thin air after he gets hit. Still, this is a really impressive port.

surely belongs to the 10 best games ever made for the 2600 but there are a few stronger titles like moon patrol
Amazing port!
NES Version is 8bit better than Intellivision and Atari2600 Version
+pak yu chan
NES version is better because IT'S NEXT GEN!
+Mr. Atari 2600
Exactly....it's hardly fair to compare them.
pak yu chan what an unfair comparison.
That's like comparing Super Mario Bros 3 on NES and SMB3 on All Star.

I remember getting this game as a kid and being super pissed off that it was nothing like the arcade game.
It was pretty close. As Atari conversions come and go, this is one of the better ones.
This is really close to the arcade game though lmao
You have the three stages, similar progression, spinach, and same obstacles. What about it is not like the arcade game?
3:15 what xD
Whyyyyyy is Bluto blinking?
I'm strong to the finish because I eat my spinach
bluto is creepy looking and walks on air
Which screen is it missing? As far as I know, the original arcade version had three screens, and the Atari 2600 version has the same three.
Kurt Woloch Yeah! I agree! What screen is missing? There were three in the Arcade Version! This Atari 2600 port has three screens!
It does have all three screens but it went away from what the arcade version has on the second level where Wimpy is on the seesaw and Sweet Pea is floating with the balloon.
Quanta saudade ...
Why does it say Pofeye?
What was the actual purpose of this game?
wheres whimpy and swe pea
Msiba Jones the only port to feature Whimpy, Sweet Pea and the Sea Hag was the Colecovision version.
And Bernard the Vulture. He's not in this port too.
@@eltravo2112 you're forgetting the c64 port and the atari 8 bit port
@@basicallysnake did I?
theres only olive oil and popeye and brutus
No Seahag Sweet pea or Wimpy. I didn't know about Sweet pea and the Seahag being in the game until the NES and I didn't know about Wimpy until I played the arcade version
@@BlackPopeye44 seahag is there but she doesnt stick around. If you blink youll miss her

This game didn’t quite catch on so therefore Donkey Kong was born.
nice
4bit
No 8-bit
ههههههههههههه إزعاج
Man wtf is this?
Very low quality and boring graphics.
Dude it was the Early 80's all this shit was in the beginning stages...how old are you?
You’ve clearly never played this game, yet another person that thinks “graphics = quality”
People in the early 80s were bored AF!!!! A board game would be more fun than this pile of hippopotamus diareeha
Clearly you’ve never actually played this game, it’s actually really enjoyable.
Ir was better than going out with your prostitute mother.
