    So true. Never heard in the dojo. When to attack and nullify the threat before it becomes a bigger problem is not taught. Many thanks for this eye opening Self Offense and awareness.

    Sound technique. When to attack. Guard your self with your hands while gauging the window of opportunity. Talk to them, step off the line, attack by surprise. This is a practice. Great video and information. Many to you both, Professor and Kenny.

    Sound Strategy. Experience has me saying Professor David James knows the concepts and is deploying them as far as UA-cam will let him. Great Video. I want out of Goju Ryu! Any Contract Attorneys out there. I was Robbed! I do KunTao, Silat, Ninpo Tai Jitsu ( not the whole thing), Danzan Jujitsu, and Tong Long Pai. I got old and I got more out of this than the Best Karate School under Chojun Miyagi's Goju Ryu (Gonna Be A Fool) Karate! I did Hakau Kai Karate and I could take a persons head off with the kicks since we stretched until we walked funny and could do the splits. That was in SFO and I was in my Teens until my early 20's. I am now 56? Here in Bakersfield they have McDojos EVERYWHERE! I get more on here than I do anywhere on UA-cam? Ne Waza is cool until you get shanked on the ground? Keep doing this Teacher James. Man gives the version of Old Mans Kung Fu and they DO work! I am an old man so yea it works. After all of the Martial Arts we do and a Steak Knife ruins your Day! Black Belts, Trophies, and Gi's do not allow you to stay alive in the seconds that a homicide can take place. We are ALL on our own. Even Real Combatives become unattainable because we get old. No worries. Profeesor James breaks it down where the lay man and OLD Dude can knee on knee strike and get their head...with no problems because we all know UA-cam will not allow you to show the killing moves. We already know them for most of us watching you. Hey, we all are experienced Martial Artists on here and I LOVE this Channel! KISS...Keep it Simple Stupid. GREAT JOB!

    dope vid, senseis! sensei, my family and i are healthy and have had a decent amount of striking training over the last 8 years. there's a person that keeps coming to my building that i DON'T want to encounter OR fight but keeps wanting to encounter and possibly fight ME. he's committed one assault 3 (IN my NYC apt - i handled it) & i don't want that person around me because now i'm expecting assault 2 or 1. i've contacted the police several times about this matter & when this individual came back most recently, i called 911 AGAIN. i'm a school teacher in NYC and i can't work if i have an encounter with the police. of course "somebody at the gates" is to be handled with caution, but any fear i feel from this "threat" is because i have something to LOSE ($ or sanctity of the family). my wife and daughter are here & our door opens directly to the street. we MUST go in and out of our apartment. if i (or god forbid, my wife or daughter) see this MF when i'm OUTSIDE my gates - what do i do?

    I am very confident and still am never the aggressor.
    I have the three foot rule as well.
    But I let the person know, that if you come closer than the length of my leg, you are going to get hurt.
    I have this rule because I have been sucker punched so many times that I no longer trust people to get close to me.
    I find that even if I am sitting somewhere, I must have my back to the wall so that I can see everyone, and everything going on around me.
    You can always tell by the persons energy, whether or not they will test this.
    I try talking my way out at first, but usually that doesn't work, because they seem to want to beat me up even more.
    I never start a fight, but I finish them.
    By the time that they realize that they made a huge mistake, it is too late by then.
    Once I start throwing hands, knees, elbows etc, it is over.

    He's right. I did kumite in karate and in general I let the opponent coming in. When he's moving toward me, my attack will be faster than his. The most important is not telegraphing your strike or not showing what you're about to do. The strike must be straight and fast.
    But it depends. Once I won a point when I attacked first by throwing a fake jab, the guy opened his defense and I kicked him in the stomach. The elbow is also effective

    You might be the guy that sucker punching people on a barstool because you're perceiving a threat where none exists. I like the hands-up talking position. You got fairly good defense you can move backwards recant reach very easy and you don't have to fire a shot that's heard round the world. Do-it-yourself and they're acting the fool one of you gets hit real hard and hits his head going down and dies one of you can get a lot of martial arts practice and if you could have slipped on by it so much the better.

    I AGREE. However, the LAW DOESN'T see it that way!☹️

    • @squidsleap
      @squidsleap 8 місяців тому +6

      That's why prof always says "get tha hell up outta there" 😂
      I'm short amd I don't cause problems with anyone. If someone has a problem with me it's either someone who is going to try and rip me off or a misunderstanding.
      I've had a lot of concussions from ejecting off various toys (mnt bikes, dirt bikes, skate boards ect) so I will always strike first and get out of there back home.
      The lawman would rather I get knocked out and beaten badly hopefully coming back to life to file a report that goes nowhere. I know this to be true due to two assault charges on my record. In both cases witnesses said I struck first and law enforcement happened to be close enough to see that there was a fight so there wasn't a way to get outta there.
      The law is reactionary, they show up after your laying there (I know, it's been me laying there waking up in the fog) and even when you're victim good luck getting any of your hospital bills paid after a judgement.
      If you're a big dude and want to stay onnthe right side of the law be my guest, but if you are a smurf and easily knocked out like me don't get in "measuring" contests, try your very best to verbally de-escalate and if it fails be first and stay safe.

    • @SFzip
      @SFzip 8 місяців тому +6

      @@squidsleap Absolutely, I couldn't agree more with your take on the situation. The law often feels like it's more reactive than proactive, showing up after the fact rather than preventing harm in the first place. And let's be real, when you're in a situation where you feel threatened, you don't have the luxury of time to ponder the legal nuances of self-defense versus duty to retreat. Your primary concern is your own safety.
      From a judge's perspective, if you've done everything you can to show you're not looking for trouble-like raising your hands in a non-threatening way and verbally trying to de-escalate the situation-you're already building a strong case for self-defense. In "duty to retreat" states, taking that step back could further solidify your claim. And in "stand your ground" states, you might not even have to worry about retreating if you genuinely feel threatened.
      The key point is the concept of "imminent danger." If you're backed into a corner and the aggressor is still coming at you, the court would likely consider your preemptive strike as a reasonable response to an immediate threat. It's better to explain your actions to a judge later than to risk being hospitalized or worse, dead.
      As for bystanders recording the event, that can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, a clear video can serve as objective evidence supporting your claim of self-defense. It can show that you tried to avoid the confrontation and only acted out of a sense of imminent danger. On the other hand, people's perceptions can be influenced by their own biases. Some might see you as the aggressor simply because you struck first, regardless of the circumstances leading up to that moment.
      At the end of the day, it's a tough call to make in the heat of the moment. But if it's a choice between facing legal repercussions and risking serious injury or death, I'd say it's better to live to tell your side of the story.

    I`m a small old cyclist. I made my mind up long ago to hit any road rager if he comes into range shouting and hollering. If he`s got out of his car and come up to me he is going to hit me if I don`t take him out first.

    But wouldn't witnesses say you started it and then the cops charge you for attacking?
