    Once again, the spammers and scammers are at work. I'll never reply to a comment from any of you the way these nasty people do. They've been reported. Look for my UA-cam verification checkmark to make sure it's me and not a faker.

    Good morning, Rod.
    Excellent review. I like the part where you say, " I just couldn't stop." Perfect. I would be like, let me find something else to try this on. First thing you know I would have lasered the fridge, the windows, my car, the toilet seat, the lawn tractor and maybe a two sided challenge coin. Wow, I might have gotten carried away but I just couldn't stop.
    Thanks for the video.

    I feel a bit aged by the amount this tech impresses me. New things didn't used to be quite as astounding. But, really, having 3D printers to lasers engravers in our homes is really something. Lots wrong with the present, but many amazing things, too. About your demo, great explanation and examples, Rod. Be well!

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  Рік тому

      It's quite fast, they claim up to 5 times faster than the blue diode lasers, at 12m/s, and from what I've observed it really is very fast compared to the other models I've tried... no gantry and fiber laser projection has a lot to do with it, I think.

    Companies should be more clear about the type of laser source they use and call them simply "pulsed IR lasers".
    These 2W 1064nm modules are neither fiber nor diode lasers, but q-switched solid state lasers. They are pumped by a 808nm diode, while the active laser gain medium is a Nd:YAG crystal emitting at 1064nm. To get powerful pulsed output, they use Cr:YAG crystals to achieve passive q-switching.
    The laser pulses can reach several 10kW peak power at ns pulse width, while the average power is ~2W. You cannot control the pulse energy or frequency (because of the passive switching), but the characteristic is comparable to fiber lasers. What's next? How about converting the 1064nm to 355nm by THG techniques?

    Hi there.
    I'm fond of your job and wanna ask a question.
    My M4 laser doesn't mark anything, it just shows a preview normally but the process of marking doesn't start well.
    I saw how you've made your logos, and heared the sound of the machine while the marking process, but mine even doesn't sounds like that, it just sounds as usual delay time.
    Maybe you've got that kind of an issue and solve it, I dunno what happened with mine, and then may you spread the solving guide, please ?
    I hope I'll get some info about that, 'cuz even the support doesn't help.

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  Рік тому

      Hello L. games! I'm sorry to learn that you're having this issue. It does sound like you are out of focus. On a test piece, try moving your focus knob very slowly while actively lasering, and go both directions while listening for that distinct sound. I did have to learn to focus better on some materials. I hope that helps, but here's a link to a video made by another UA-camr where he speaks and shows something of this issue: ua-cam.com/video/8QQ5pRm8txU/v-deo.html

    I am very interested how Atomstack will work with white marble. Do You have any idea is it even possible to make logo on white stone materials? Please, give me a hint, because I am looking for a laser for marking marble products. With kind regards, Marcin.

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  Рік тому

      Hello Marcin, I wish I had experience with white marble but I do not. From what little I do know, I believe you'd be better off with a co2 type laser as they are more powerful and can cut deeper. But, it may be possible to spray paint over the marble and then engrave with a diode type... this works on ceramic, hard stuff but different of course. Sorry I can't help more.

    hi please if you can help me I don't know what settings I need to make on the Atomstack m4 laser to engrave deeply visible on natural leather
    now I bought the laser and I can't use the settings in the book to engrave real leather
    please if you have pictures or video of the settings how to proceed
    🙏🙏🙏

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  7 місяців тому

      I apologize, but I have yet to try this type of engraving on leather so I cannot advise on settings. Best thing I can say is to practice on a scrap piece until you find the setting that match your needs. That's how I'd approach it myself. Thanks so much for watching!

    Do think it could do pen clips?

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  Рік тому

      I'll repeat that great advice... Please wear laser safety glasses!!! (thank you, Bob) So, the first lasering you see in this video is my name on that electrical plug/USB converter. My name dimensions are 20mm x 3mm on that piece, and I could adjust the dimensions smaller for sure, though legibility will start becoming an issue. That being said, though I haven't tried it, I do believe lasering a pen clip would work.

    You really should have some sort of exhaust system to suck fumes to the outdoors. Many of the materials and coatings give off toxic fumes when burned off with a laser of any type. Be especially careful with tanned leather, plastics, and paint coatings. I also guarantee that the cheap plastic hood they provided for handheld use is not laser safe - at best it is just a piece of tinted plastic. You should have laser goggles and other protective shields that are specifically made to absorb light at the wavelength of your laser with an optical density of at least 6 (OD6) and never use the thing without a shield in place to cover the work piece. You could easily blind yourself (or your pet) with a stray reflection. Advice from a chemist whose work has used high power lasers.

    The fiber laser is certainly interesting but I found it a bit restrictive as far as work area is concerned. I’ll be doing a lot more laser cutting in the shop so I opted for the Ortur Laser Master 3. So far I like it a lot.

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  Рік тому

      It really serves a different purpose, made for fast repetitive work with no worries of the heat from a diode laser warping thinner metals, for example. I do like the OLM3 as well though, that's a well-made product for sure.

    I bought this laser and shipped it back for a refund. The laser itself I had no problems with - the software killed it for me. I couldn't figure out how to do different settings to save my life. If you go beyond the main screen a lot of it is in chinese. I searched everywhere for a video that talked about how to use the software and found nothing, only talking about the laser.
    Unfortunate that a good laser is crippled by poor software - buyer beware.
