- I finally have a fiber laser to play around with and learn about metal engraving. @commarkerofficial sent over the ComMarker B4 20W fiber laser for me to test out and share my thoughts with everyone. I'll talk about it's base features, a little on safety and then test it out on some common and not-so-common materials. This is the first Galvo and Fiber laser in my shop so I'm no expert so come along as I learn about a new type of laser!

Thanks for using the pedal. One came with the one I ordered, but it wasn't explained in the manual (or from "support"). Apparently, I need to invest in Lightburn.
please make a tutorial how to clean on the material settings.
Thank you for the great info on the B4. Your description and review provided much more detail than Clack’s review did (don’t tell him I said that). I decided to order the B4 30w MOPA version to go with my Omtech Polar and NEJE 3 Max. I hope you have the time and opportunity to do more videos on the B4.
I do want to get back to doing more with it soon. The 30w MOPA sounds like a nice step up from this without really dropping some cash for the 50+ watt units! Sounds like you have a nice mix of lasers to cover most options.
Excellent! Thank you for the content and top notch delivery.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ooooo Hay you should try 3D depth map on a coin 😮
Very nice machine with incredible speed.
Nice to see how it engraves. Especially your logo on acrylic, wow!
Yes that acrylic engraving was very impressive at how fast and crisp it was!
Solid review, brother. And good tips along the way. Subscriber count +1
Much appreciated!
Omg lucky you got for free 😋 too cool
Fiber lasers are so fun to watch
They are as long as you wear protective glasses! 😉
Great video! Thanks for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching!
I have used a fiber laser in conjunction with my old lapidary skills. It works very well with dense stones.
Good to know! I need to gather a few variety of stones to do more playing with the process.
Hi great video do you have a different material sheet with their settings for this fiber laser?
How does speed compare doing markings on this vs co2? Would love to see how much faster the galvo is. Maybe acrylic at same size or coated metal. Trying to pull the trigger on this but cant get speed comparison.
I just received my ComMarker B4 machine, a lot to learn going from a diode and CO2. I like watching to find settings and see what you can do with this also good to see a fellow MN hobbyist. Do you have a lightburn library for this to help get people started? Thanks
I'm still doing various tests to dial in settings. If I do get a library started I'll be sure to make an update and share what I can.
You should make a little wood box for the extra lens.
I’m thinking a box with some dividers to house all the accessories for it. Sounds like another video to make!
Got an update on getting consistent colors and things you can do with it ? Tried any relief cutting with it on the brass coins ? Thanks.
I have played with both the color options and the relief carves with limited success. The color on stainless steel changes with the thickness of stainless as it's a factor of heating it to a specific temperature. Thicker stainless material will dissipate the heat more which means your settings will change. So what works on one piece may not work on the next if there are variations in the metal.
I'm thinking of picking one of these up to take to shows and do custom stuff for people while they wait. Do you think this unit would be good for that?
For just marking this thing is pretty good. I'm going to gather a few more "blank" items and see if I can come up with a list of market items that would be quickly and easily customized with one of these. For the shop, I can see how having a more powerful version would open up more possibilities but for on the road customization, this thing would work great!
How do you adjust the focus for different thickness of material. Example the rock vs the metal business card?
There are buttons on the front that raise and lower the head. The unit has three low power laser dots that move closer together as the laser moves into focus. So you use the buttons to adjust the height until the three dots overlap.
@@Vintauri thank you. If you highlighted that in the video, I’m sorry I overlooked that part.
I'm in the market for these types of engravers. Mainly wanting a decent engraving on like zippo lighters and maybe and gun slides. Would this be decent? I'm looking at the 30w version of this.
This will work very well on stainless steel and most metal used on the slides. If you're looking to mostly mark them a 20-30w will be decent, if you want depth, getting into 50+ watts and a MOPA style will work much better.
What are the differences compared to the xt00l 1064nm module?
This fiber laser is 20w of power compared to the 2w of the xTool module. The galvo mirrors can also move the laser around much faster than the gantry style. However you have a much smaller working area with this compared to the working area of the xTool modules on the gantry lasers.
The 30 watt is on sale... Prime Big Deal -20% $2,159.20, So is the 50 Watt -20% $2,959.20,
I didn't notice those right away when browsing the sales. Hopefully there will be more deals around the holiday shopping season.
Can I engraved photo on stainless steel with this laser
It will engrave on stainless steel, you can even get varying colors if you do some test grids to find power and speed settings. I have done more vector art rather then photos with stainless so I can't speak to the quality or the best process for photo engraving, but it is doable.
