$6.50 an hour is disgusting. I was making 21 an hour and I was fresh and new in the hospitality market, she should be at least making 30 an hour if she is the head cook there.

30 years ago. Food svc workers don't make a lot of cash. That was her starting wage. What was her wage at the time of interview. How many times did she give her cash money that she did not report on her tax forms? Why didn't she quit? In the partnership she speaks of, how much money did she put in upfront? Why would her co-workers think she lives in a mansion? Not a fan of PD,,,,,,I am from the South. I don't know anyone that talks like that. I grew up around old ladies that talked like that back in the 1960's.
We need your voice! Please advocate a living wage for all hardworking people. Please.

Where are the paystubs to prove this? This woman has 0 evidence. Her lawsuit was dismissed if that says anything. She is also lying. Watch some UA-cam videos and learn how to tell if someone is lying.

Like I’m Mexican and I developed an American accent, it was pretty easy and even easier perfecting it (so whenever someone asked what’s with the accent, I wouldn’t have to tell a story)and whenever I’m around someone who isn’t that good at English and it isn’t their native language, i go into Spanish mode and start talking in an accent to make them feel more comfortable lol
This is a subconscious adaptation skill some people have. They adapt an accent to "fit in". Its not her being racist or condescending its her subconscious.
Chile, I live in the south. This is the typical story of the south: whites' own the southern (aka soul food) restaurants and rib joints, but go look in the kitchen and see who's cooking.

Cornbread... Native American staple in multiple cultures (I live between 2 former Cherokee reservations), though you will find the seasoning differs. I personally hate sweet Georgia cornbread. It’s unnatural and an affront to... tongues. 😁 I get it because the sugar was a pick me up (especially for the babies) added to other dishes here. You saw it more commonly with grits.

@Joyce Woodruff that's how employment works. You fill out applications saying that you want to help somebody. If they want to use you then they hire you, where they use you. You are paid a commission/salary/hourly wage. Again, this is how employment works. She was an employee. What exactly is it that you are confused about? Because Deen blew up, all of a sudden she's supposed to give one of her employees a little something extra? That's ludicrous.

In another news video it was reported dora was making 70k a year, that's 1300 a week. She was just fine.

I was a Paula Deen fan and didn't know what to think when the allegations happened. I haven't seen this video until today. From tne way Paula Deen spoke so highly of Dora. I believe she told Dora that if she ever became rich that Dora would become rich.

Just because you worked with someone before they were famous doesn't mean you should share in their success. Unless you formed a legal partnership, no one owes you anything beyond your contracted pay.

Sorry to see this. I hope Dora is doing well. I also am glad to see Paula getting back on her feet. Forgiveness is something we all need. We are all growing. God is the one who says “vengeance is mine says the Lord,” He is the only one who knows the whole story. Ultimately life and individual action are between the Lord and the individual. Cooks at Restaurants in California, a line cook make's 20k a year and real chef's olny make 46k, and we are the most expensive state! Everyone l know uses other people's RECIPES to cook with ,including restaurants! Because there are so many recipes to use! I think if it was so HORRIBLE to work for Paula deen, she could of QUIT at any time nothing was keeping her from finding another JOB! I would of left if it was that bad!

If Dora had issues with Paula why didn't she quit working for the restaurant or fight for her fair share when supposedly Paula became famous and rich? Why say something when Paula is facing all these downfalls? Also, if Dora Charles says, 'Paula passed her $100 (instead of handing it politely like Paula should have) for her medicine then why didn't Dora say no thanks and quit'? Why continue to be treatrd that way? No one deserves to be treated that way. Her story does not add up sorry. I'm a huge fan of Paula Deen. Though she did say racial slurs does not make her a bad individual because everyone is racist one way or another. No one's perfect. I truly hope this issue with her and Dora is resolved and there is no bad blood.

Lol you guys have no idea how racist people in the south are compared to the north (not that racism doesn’t exist). Paula Deen once described a man as as black as a blackboard. She is so racist at the core she doesn’t even know she is racist and that it’s not okay to say those things. But she’s a product of the environment and after centuries of slavery it’s not surprising white people in the south somehow believe they are entitled to be above Black people. The only way you can justify it to yourself to treat your “soul sister” that way and steal her recipes is if you don’t think she’s your equal. though Paulas success is not purely based on recipes but her personality since food network popularized her. Sadly, not many people would invest in or want to watch Dora because she lacks Paula’s star quality.
Dora did all the good cooking while Paula racked in the dough. Trust and believe Dora, Karma is real! Paula will get her's, and Dora you will get you just desserts. Your cooking is delicious! Something and someone will put you on a show, video, something.

I'd rather talk about the fact that if Dora had her own restaurant, many Black folks would have went in there and complained until she filed bankruptcy. We are great at supporting everyone but our own.

Hmm..we really don't know if this lady is being truthful or not. What she should've done was got her check stubs together and when The New York Times came to interview her she could've proven that she worked for Paula Dean for 20yrs and was top chef but only made $6.50 minimum wages. If you worked for this woman for 20yrs and we're overworked, underpaid, and verbally abused by Paula Dean why would you chose now to speak about this? It's strange that this lady didn't mention one thing about Paula Dean until it's was a media frenzy about her being racist and now this lady comes forward? That's why it would've been very smart to bring those check stubs so she could prove that she's being honest.

I agree. I do believe Paula used or uses racial epithets, but I believe it is SADLY due to her NOT understanding how wrong this is, but just a way of life for her and old Southerners. The way I see things is even if you're not talking to the person if they help you get somewhere you should never forget that and always be grateful and give them what they deserve because without them you wouldn't be there.

I am sure their was some racism going on. This woman's biggest complaint is that she was made false promises and not compensated and awarded in the way Paula Deen alluded would happen if she struck it big. Unfortunately , this woman is not knowledgeable enough to know she should have sought legal advice, and had a legally binding contract made , spelling out all the financial details she expected. If someone is going to benefit primarily because of your expertise, then you need to make sure you get your just due. This is a story that sounds familiar. Think of all the African Americans who did or created something that whites have stolen, reproduced and used as their own creations robbing millions from those blacks who actually owned or were tricked out of what they were due.

No way do you stay with someone and cook for more than 20 years if that person is racist or treats you bad as a person or an employee. Dora faked nothing with their close friendship or in any of the videos. Nor did Paula offer her no absurd future financial promise - that is made up and laugh-able. No employer does that because no employer can tell the future! Let's all get real. The recipes weren't hers, she was hired then to be a cook, an employee like anyone else. She isn't entitled to anything. No cook an any establishments earns $71,000 when she did when she betrayed a friend and left for greed. No character. You were paid your wages/salary while you were an employee and that is all you deserve! I don't deserve any compensation from Taco Bell because I worked there 20 ago and didn't like the manager! feitras pace i don't see how that's funny. messing with someone's income, and livelihood isn't funny at all. i did the same thing when I wasn't getting paid when I worked at one of the Family Dollor stores in my city when I was younger. there were other female co-worker's that weren't getting paid their full salary but, I was the only one that called the branch to investigate why I wasn't getting paid.
so they in turn did an investigation on the manager that ended up getting fired. I'm sure if you were in her shoes, you would have done the same thing.
