This is best footage of wild owl on here. No unnecessary background music or narration, very organic. And respectful! Nothing is sadder than a captive/pet owl.
¡¡EXACTLY!! Most people would have ruined it by adding music, talking, etc. This clip is PERFECT as it is. It really feels like you´re actually out there with the owl.
@@kerrykestrowl6785 I'm currently sitting at the computer and looking into the nest. You know about my injury. I can only write with one finger so I am not yet able to mod, but I can watch. Have a nice weekend and a peaceful 1st Advent. Warm greetings :-)
This one has a very 'do you mind?' look to it. Seems fairly tame and trusting for a wild bird. Congrats for getting so near without scaring the bird away
I think it's the awesome power of digital zoom mixed with it being a predatory bird and not a bird that regularly becomes dinner giving you that impression.
You have incredible self control to remain motionless and silent for so long. What an experience that he allowed you to share with him! I love how your close ups were in focus and were so detailed that I could see his inner eye lids and the individual feathers. Bravo!
This owl has visited several times since I made this video. I've since cut this stump, so I won't be able to get such a close image of this owl since it tends to perch in the trees now. I also moved the bee hives to another location in the yard.
Mazryonh This was the only time I saw it perched in this stump. Other times it perched in the surrounding trees. Last year I cut the stump short, so it will not be perching on it again.
Jeffrey Simonson I understand; perhaps if this owl comes back to this yard you can take more videos of it. It clearly doesn't have a problem with you getting close to it.
Mazryonh I actually saw it last week. It was calling from up at the top of a big spruce tree. When it left its perch, it flew right over my head, completely silent. It was at night and completely dark except for a slightly brighter overcast sky, so I could just barely see its darker outline. Not many birds can fly at night.
She is very beautiful I love owls I would always hear them hooting outside my window at night and it always comforted me. :) great footage of her I would love to be able to get this close to an owl
Most people when seeing an animal/ bird people usually refers to them as he. Makes me happy i'm not that only 1 whom referred to the owl as SHE, is beautiful. 1 time I was walking my dog at almost 11pm and saw this big bird had the feeling it was an owl but didn't wanted to believe it & I looked up the tree branch and I wasn't sure then she flew down to the concrete where I could see her way better than completely realized it was in fact an owl. I was excited to see her but afraid at same time (I thought she was going to attack me& my dog) she just stood there on concrete street as I left. Are owl sometimes trying to tell someone something? I mean she could of easily have flown away from my sight or attack me with those huge claws they have
i am super sure you were thinkin ' turn around....turn around.......' when it was turned away from you. Then suddenly..BOOM she stares directly into the camera! Lovely shot!! lovely , beautiful and commanding presence from her :)
I was in the Tetons of Wyoming ,end of winter , when one of these Great Grays came glyding down to a window where I was sitting . It lifted its wings and showed me its entire wing span and beautiful feathers . What an incredible event I’ll always cherish it .
No arguement there. Esp the great greys, they squint more and their eyes seem small for an owl! It's a cute look though on them! Someone should remake cheech and Chong but with owls!
It's because owls are very far-sighted. Hence, the owl was squinting to try to study and look at the person filming, who was too close for the owl to see normally
What an awesome experience! He looks like he’s trying to take a nap. Maybe you should add another “tree stump” to your yard for him to use as his honorary roosting site.
Interesting when I think about the bird calls in the background. That owl is hearing something very different from what I would hear. He knows exactly where those birds are because he can triangulate their location. Must be incredible to be able to do that.
I have curiosity about what do u mean with it's not unusual behavior??? For them to be close to humans? Not very long an owl got down from a branch tree to the concrete very close to where I was... so you are saying they do that? I'm very curious about owls. I hope i'm not sounding very weird lol
I love how this Great Grey is aware that its not in danger as the Human is slowly approaching and not making much noise. However you can try to sneak up on it,such Gigantic owl has probably the best hearing that can hear pretty much anything approaching. Even if its slight movement, and that Gaze as well as Lock on where the sound is coming from. Especially the other birds could not do anything as it dives on the Great Grey Owl,the Great Grey owl simply didn't care.
You were lucky to be able to get so close to such a magical owl. I would be smiling for a week if I had that encounter, mind you there are no gray owls in the UK. I have been lucky enough to see all of our resident owls though. I would have left the stump there myself as it was very comfortable resting there to cool off and if in your yard it would be safe there and then would roost in the nearby trees. You may never get that close again and during the breeding season, you would be wise not to. It's really nice footage and the owls eyes when blinking are amazing. ◕‿◕
Amazing, so big but probably only weighs 2 and 1/2 to 3 lb tops. Beautiful Creatures... I like the length of film. It makes me feel like I'm there observing it in nature myself. I enjoyed the natural noises. Thank you.
Thanks for this awesome video. To me, by far is the most beautiful of all owls. I have never seen a video of a wild GGO in such a relaxed state. Still wondering why you'd cut the stump that s/he liked so well so to stay perched on for that long?
The great grey owl or great gray owl (Strix nebulosa) is a very large owl, documented as the world's largest species of owl by length. It is distributed across the Northern Hemisphere, and it is the only species in the genus Strix found in both Eastern and Western Hemispheres. In some areas it is also called Phantom of the North, cinereous owl, spectral owl, Lapland owl, spruce owl, bearded owl, and sooty owl.
thank you for sharing,,,,really enjoyable, good job moving around too, I was surprised the owl didn't fly off, he obviously knew you were there....really nice video!
Melvin Wei 14:21 ? it's stretching and skewing. ??? what kind of camera does that to only the foreground? Just a weird looking vid and whatever they did ... i don't like it! hahahah man... just film it with a normal camera w/o weirdness, ok?
You were very fortunate to be able to get such excellent footage. I'm guessing he's a young, inexperienced owl to not be more wary and beat a retreat with you taking footage and all the robins scolding him.
@@simonsonjh that's what I wondered. But I've only ever seen them pant. I know I do that when it's hot! I mean hold my arms away from my body if I'm not in public but being in the god forsaken climate I'm in- that's seldom a problem. Sadly.
This owl looks as if he could speak more wisdom than anyone! His/her (idk the gender) posture is so steady and calm when especially being around a human
This aint look like any creature that ı know of until now. Such a distinct behaviour makes it look like weird and invoke some other feelings such as patience and balance maybe .. I like the footage great expreince
When you pan around the owl it, you never get around to its face, until it turn to face you. To me this looks like you've filmed an owl in a temperature controlled aviary with a green screen, with a separate background shot of your yard used that on the green screen.

That bird is feeling uncomfortably warm. They hold their wings like that and do the throat thing to cool off. So fluffy!

Yes

Wait a minute... how is the foreground skewing and moving when the background does not?
Yeah, I don't get that either. All that shifting and rotating yet the bird's head is always turned away, it makes no physical sense.

The camera must be mounted on some automated tripod and turning and sliding and it just looked weird.
I hand-held the camera.
