I think you're right, I could have been the winter molting lighting. I moved mine from their original location to another and haven't set up the automatic light control so I think they were thrown off. My males were ready by December but I didn't want to breed them so early. I wanted them to rest a couple of more months. My females also had their vents swollen but nothing. They would build their nest and sit on it but no eggs, and the others that did were not fertile. The ones that did hatch had black spot. It just wasn't a great season. I have only 6 chicks this year, and I'm grateful. As long as my birds are healthy that's all that matters in the end. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing. Yeah my lesson Ed learned for this year is prioritizing the offseason for my canaries and getting them molted properly.

I recently got a pair of canaries and the female laid an egg in the food bowl. Also built and destroyed the nest. Male is singing as well. Might separate them for a little bit until they are ready again.

Sounds like some young birds trying to figure out breeding. Separate them and then if they’re ready put them back together again and hopefully they’ll be good to go.
Is yellow light alternate to sun light?
They have specific reptile or birds lights that put off specific uv rays that mimic the sun.
