- TOP 5 SECRET TIPS!!!...HTMI for those that want to work in the MUSIC INDUSTRY from Nick Gatfield, CEO of Sony Music (UK). Your favourite artists are likely to come from Sony with a stable of artists as diverse as 1Direction & Justin Timberlake to Barbra Streisand & Kings Of Leon. As well as that, they team up with Simon Cowell's SYCO to make the X-Factor. So if you want to work with someone like Nick Gatfield, now's the time to start taking notes.
Nick's talks about how his involvement in music started from his passion for it as a kid and then going on to be part of Dexys Midnight Runners. Realising that there is often a shelf life in being a musician he quickly went into the business side of the industry & found other career options. Also keep an eye out for how & why One Direction became the juggernaut they are & advice for aspiring musicians on what he looks for when signing acts.

I'm not particularly involved in the music industry in any way, but I understand well that just having talent doesn't get you far. You have to be able to market yourself and make connections. I would be speechless if this was my job, music is my #1 passion and something I feel very strongly about.
I agree connections are key, Its hard for me to connect to people though maybe thats my problem, btw great comment
msmusik2 I strongly agree about this
To be music is a hobby, not a career. It only becomes a career if the industry pay me well.
He's confident yet humble.
Yes, and is also very firm!
honestly I would be more excited to meet this guy then an actual pop star he's like a God in the music world
+Kenny Cole I admire your approach to things.
Really? Maybe i look him up and send in my demo
I've watch this over and over trying to every detail and soak it
Good stuff. Thanks!
Thanks nick

Very inspirational

Hopefully they will sign and market 4th impact from xfactor season 12. I personally believe that 4th impact has everything they are looking for in an artist. They just never quit working ,they have a digital foot print in the form of a massive global fanbase and they are extremely talented and excel in live performances. I think 4th impact could be huge.
Hey I like this video, being single minded is key, also it has to start from the heart, love the music your doing and believe in, and keep going if the music you make keeps you happy.
How nice
So your music doesn't even matter, only your following? but they want someone with passion? Goddamn :D
Righto then
I wish I would get signed. I know I can create really good music, but I don't know whether people would like me. All I need is a decent studio, someone to create the instrumentals I want, and promotion from a label, and maybe a little education, but whether people would like me and support me I'm not sure.
U look like a good looking guy, and that’s pretty much all you need. By your comment I would think you are humble and likable. You can make it for sure but need marketing. Any kind of stupid shit is in the radio today so u should have no problem, unless u try to do art or deep stuff they won’t be interested, but your public will be loyal tho
He looks like John Hanna from the movie; the mummy
But you guys know as well as I do that it is down to who you know in the industry. That’s the fact.
All those shows such as xfactor got talent and etc are signing people for a draconic contract ... you cant perform your own originals without them taking your royalties....
