Great video. Just a point of clarification for those that don't know. If you're ripping a 2 x 4 (1.5" x 3.5" actual) in half, you won't be left with 2 pieces that are 1.75". The blade removes the amount of the material equal to roughly the width of the blade, so your remaining pieces will be less than 1.75" wide each.

Impressive🎉 I am amazed how the screws can hold so much weight. 😮

Nice and simple. One thing I would recommend is leaving room to wind the garage door coil springs. When they break and need replaced, the door guy will thank you.

How much room should I leave … just in case?

@@deckgun31 Good question. I would look up a couple of videos and you can see how they wind the springs.

Can a entire 4x8 sheet of plywood be hung up using this trick?

I also need a shim board for the 1/8” gap between drywall and support boards. What did you you for that? Did you rip another 2x4 to 1/8”?

Just curious why you decided to build the shelves as 41" (instead of 48") x 96"? Great video, very helpful. Thank you.

If I remember right that where the stud in the ceiling was. It wasn't a perfect 48" away from the front wall. Which doesn't make sense but that's just where it was when the garage was framed.

@@WillMosbey Makes sense. My ceiling studs in that area are running front to back so I won't have that same issue. Thanks for the reply!

Why a 1.75 instead of the full 2x4? I figured with the amount of weight it would be sager for full 2x4???

I could have for sure. Just saved cost and wood.

How difficult would it be to change the springs on your garage door with these shelves installed?

    • @WillMosbey
      @WillMosbey  2 роки тому

It shouldn't be a problem. There's plenty of clearance to detach the door from the pulley. Once detached you can push the open button and the pulley could slide completely out of the way do you could work on it.

Will he’s talking about putting that tension on springs. Shouldn’t be a problem tho removing plywood if springs need replacement

don't mess with the springs if you don't know what you're doing. you could kill yourself. not recommended without proper training. those things have A LOT OF TENSION

Doesn’t look very sturdy. I bet the plywood will sag significantly over time.

You're absolutely correct. My ply ended up sagging because of the weight. I stored water bottles, chairs and coolers etc up there. So I ended up installing some cross bracing to take out the sag. Problem solved. Thanks for the comment. It's pretty handy to have though.

That’s dumbest idea to have a storage above the door, how are you gonna fix the springs? 🤔
