If this is your first Baby Metal reaction you have no idea what you've gotten into. Saw them live last fall. Their live shows are incredible and Su's live vocals are unbelievably precise. They have an incredible catalog of great songs that will take you a long time to get through. You'll love the journey, I guarantee it!

Welcome to Babymetal! They are absolutely amazing. In this video (Apr 2023), lead Su-metal is 25, Moametal (stage right) is 23, and Momometal (stage left) just turned 20. Su and Moa are original members and started in 2010, Momo joined in 2019, became official 3rd member at the end of this specific show.
For something epic: *Road of Resistance (Official Live)* - This is an amazing anthem from Jan 2015.
For something heartfelt: *Monochrome (Pia Arena MM)* - Same 2-day concert as this Megitsune video.
For the party banger of 2024: *Ratatata (Official MV):* - 50/50 collab with German band Electric Callboy. Fun times for all.

'Megitsune was released in 2013. It often tops polls for fans favourite song and they have played it live more than any other.
It reflects a lot of their Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) and the melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains the fox mask Su had🦊) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength.
They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong.
This was the live performance at PIA Arena in April last year.
Su-metal (lead singer) was 25, Moametal (24) and Momometal (20).
BABYMETAL were formed in 2010, the brainchild and passion project of their metalhead producer Kei Kobayashi who was inspired to try this mad idea of fusing metal with JPop hooks, melodies, aesthetics and vocals after seeing lead singer Su-metal with her previous group and being so impressed by her vocal talents and stage presence. He thought it might just inject some youth into and help rejuvenate the stagnant metal and rock music scene - as it was in Japan at that time.
They were formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of a JPop Idol group (called Sakura Gakuin - Cherry Blossom Academy) set up by the Amuse Talent Agency to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented young girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment with the aim of them choosing what they wanted to do as a career when they left school. Amuse were not impressed with the idea and only allowed Kobayashi his pet project because there was no financial risk - they provided no extra funding and assumed it would be a short lived (and failed) experiment that would end after the lead singer reached 15 and would graduate from the parent group and from school to continue/begin her singing career.
Against all the odds and everybody's expectations they found an audience nobody knew would exist and started to gain popularity in their own right, so it was decided they should split from Sakura Gakuin to become an independent band in their own right after the lead singer turned 15 and would graduate - she was 15 in December 2012 and the split happened in 2013. 'Megitsune' was the first song they released after the split.
When they started in 2010 the three members (Su-metal - lead vocalist, Moametal and original 3rd member Yuimetal - backing vocals, harmonies and in charge of hyping and involving the crowd through their choreo) were aged 12, 11 and 11. We have watched them grow up and become one of the very best live acts on the planet.
Yuimetal last performed in October 2017 and was absent for 12 months for health reasons until she announced she was still not fully recovered and would be leaving the band.
Su and Moa continued as a duo for 4 or 5 years supported from 2019 by 3 dancers who would take turns dancing in the third spot until 1st April 2023 when (at the end of this concert you just watched) one of those dancers, Momoko, was finally revealed as the new official third member (she is now known as Momometal).
BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they brought a fusion of great metal instrumentals coupled with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics to create their very own sub-genre (which is why they are called BABYMETAL - it signifies that they invented their own sub-genre, a new style of metal ... it is also a bit of a Japanese pun with BABYMETAL and heavy metal sounding and being written almost identically) and they have continued to develop and evolve from those beginnings.
They don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world, they are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off often bland music).
BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it is designed to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement.
They are also the biggest and most successful Japanese band there has ever been internationally - first Japanese band to play their own solo show at Wembley Arena in 2016, sold out the Tokyo Dome (55,000 people) two nights running, also 2016, first Asian (not just Japanese) band to have an album at number 1 in the US Billboard Hard Rock charts - that was 2019.
To see them at one of their arena shows in Japan you have to enter a lottery to win the chance to buy tickets. Last year they played 94 concerts in 25 countries.
They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. They first appeared in October 2012 and became the full time support for all live shows from March 2014.
Early on BABYMETAL did not have the funding for a live band so the instrumentals were pre-recorded and played on the backing track. The Kami Band was phased in from October 2012 playing at a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows.
In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced and they have been supporting BABYMETAL on their more extended foreign tours since then - they were the instrumentalists in this video.
They have nearly 70 songs now, every one of them is different from the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal, often when you least expect it. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song no problem - try another, the chances are you'll love it.
You will get a lot of good recommendations and suggestions for more songs - go with any of them, you can't go far wrong, but remember - although the official videos are all good and worth seeing, BABYMETAL are a live performance act - that is where you will always see - and hear - them at their very best.

:) Happy to see you found 'em girls. Their live concerts are absolute fire and every song is different mix of genres (with metal). I'm sure someone will tell you their entire lore (or point you out to one of those funny tutorial videos explaining how they became to be and built their own brand), but as little starter... Lead vocalist stage name is Sue, the 2 other girls are Moa and Momo. Moa and Momo sing too, but mainly screams and shouts. I think Sue was 14 when they started many many years ago, so in this one they are quite a bit older already. However this actual song is one of the earlier ones. Sue and Moa have been in BM for entire time, Momo is their newest and youngest member, replacing Yui who had to leave the band long time ago due to some health issues (I think). There was quite a long time when only Sue and Moa were doing the shows... Also not a cult... just very clever marketing and crazy Japanese crowds going all in :) BM has done some world tours too and nowdays it seems, everyone wants to work and do collabs with them internationally. Be careful with the copyrights... But yes - BM should make you smile and party plenty. Though you might love em. Enjoy :)

They recently released another super fun song along with Electric Callboy called RATATATA you wanna come back and enjoy, there's an official MV and today released the live version, just be careful with the copyright blocked with the MV by putting some watermarked logo or visual filters such opacity, translucent or blur effect.
This is a nice song to start your journey, it's one of BM classics songs and favorite among fans, it's a regular in any of their setlist when playing live.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
They are:
*SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 21 and is the new official member since April 1st last year.
-YuiMetal- scream and dance, former member since 2018.
None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
About this song:
They were quite young when doing the official MV but wait to see Doki Doki Morning or Iine!!, we always like to suggest that version for first time watching. You can also enjoy this song with the live sound of the East Kami Band at Budokan 2014 and more live versions prior to 2021 mainly.
Fans were totally rocking and having so much fun watching this every night at the World Tour 2023/2024, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shanenigans when performing live between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown.
This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal) and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri).
"Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them.
During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance.
In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox.
"Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself.
When SuMetal is throwing a front kick she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During official MV she does something different and looks really cool doing it.
Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts.

I found them late. I was never into Metal but loved Hard Rock. Feb 2020 I watched a video Live and I bought the DVD and a year later in August 2021 I watched it. Blew my mind. Been a fan ever since and all the SG ladies. What a trip for me! Hope you enjoy it also. Seems so ;-)

Delightful reaction and a great first reaction. Your smile was infectious as you watched the ladies. Babymetal are a truly unique and original band and though Su, Moa & Momo are still in their 20's they have all been training, practicing and preforming since they were little kids.
So happy you liked them and very happy knowing the massive amount of incredible material Babymetal has at this point. I'll leave the suggestions to others but wether seeing them perform 10 years ago or last year as here. If you love adorable and cute you are in for many treats.

You really have no clue (yet) what you´re in for 🤣"Megitsune" is a masterpiece and one of their first songs (released in June 2013! 2nd single release from BABYMETAL) I loved how you reacted to the crowd, which was rather "smol" here (about 12k people) 🤣 In January 2023 they started their journey through the Metalverse (you will learn about that on your journey, too) at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan, about 25k people witnessed that particular concert and went totally bonkers🤣
You could try "Headbangerrrrr!!!!" of the Makuhari Messe live concert (you could try the channel "For The Fox God" to get a reactable video!), or an earlier version of this song, from the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" concert, which was held 10 years (!) before this performance of "Megitsune" and shows the original trio and a roughly 9k people crowd going just as nuts as this crowd here😄
"Monochrome" live at PIA Arena MM (same venue as the performance of "Megitsune" you just reacted to, but different costumes 😉) is another VERY good one!
