  • "The More I See You" is a popular song written by Harry Warren, with lyrics by Mack Gordon. In 1966, Chris Montez had the most commercially successful and well known version of the song and it is this version that has been used many times in movies, notably at the beginning of the famous club scene in Roman Polanski's Frantic, starring Harrison Ford. Chris Montez's version went to number sixteen on the Hot 100 and spent four weeks at number two on the Easy Listening chart.
The song was published in 1945, and originally sung by Dick Haymes in the film Diamond Horseshoe. "The More I See You" has been subsequently recorded by many artists.
Sarah's accompanied by Kirk Stuart (piano), Charles "Buster" Williams (bass), and Georges Hughes (drums). Recorded in Sweden, 1964. (Mercury Records)
    The more I see you
    The more I want you
    Somehow this feeling
    Just grows and grows
    With every sigh
I become more mad about you
More lost without you and so it goes
Can you imagine how much I love you?
The more I see you as years go by
I know you're the one for me can only be you
My arms won't free you, my heart won't try
Can you imagine how much I love you?
The more I see you as years go by, go by
I know you're the one for me can only be you
My arms won't free you, my heart won't try

Sarah's style may not be everyone's cup of tea.
The way she uses her voice to "manipulate" music notes, syllables, words....stretching, caressing, lifting, dropping....you name it.
Some may prefer Ella Fitzgerald's more direct style or Billie Holiday's angst.
But there's no denying Sarah's unmistakable voice. Definitely one for the ages !

    • @unclealand
      @unclealand Рік тому +8

Sarah Vaughan preferred to honor melodies and lyrics by playing with them, showing us more of a tune’s possibilities that direct singing might miss. You’re right, it isn’t for everybody, but that’s what creativity sounds like in the realm of jazz singers.

The jazz black folks did in Europe around this time is so great. America did not embrace them but Europe did. It’s like they felt ( more free) to relax and perform there. Thanks to UA-cam, because I never saw these clips before!!!

    The more I see you
    The more I want you
    Somehow this feeling
    Just grows and grows
With every sigh I become more mad about you
    More lost without you
    And so it goes
    Can you imagine
    How much I love you?
    The more I see you
    As years go by
I know the only one for me can only be you
    My arms won't free you
    My heart won't try
    Can you imagine
How much, how much, how much I love you?
Oh, oh, the more I see you
    As years go by
I know the only one for me can only be you
    My arms won't free you
    My heart won't try

She makes me swoon. There couldn't be a greater contrast to her warm, sultry soulful singing than the cool, polite clapping from the Nordic audience. If this didn't warm them up, nothing could! Time for a dunk in the Mediterranean? :)
