Lol the biggest waste of money too.
Did you know Tyler spent $5000 on a guitar pedal just letting all of you know because he doesn’t mention it often
He'll sell it in 6 months for $10,000
Why does it matter? He didn’t say he doesn’t use expensive pedals. Just comparing/ saying the cheap ones will work fine for probably about 75% of the people who watch these videos
@@jonathanmidgette807 I don't think sporhorks criticized the fact that he bought the Klone, he just observed that Tyler never miss an occasion to remind it to us and think it is funny. That is all.

Also Tyler:''but you know i DID buy this 5000$ guitar pedal.
The thing is that with the current speculation that raise the price of this pedal, I am sure that the plan for him is to sell the pedal in 6 months at the price of $10,000 ;)
@@Furvolte oooh that seems smart. Then it was worth it :)
Josh would probably let him use it anytime he asked.
Plot twist: Tyler did not spent $500000 on that guitar pedal. Tyler spent $500001 on that pedal, and sold it back for undisclosed amount, and made a healthy profit.
You do know that the dollar sign comes before the number, right?
$500,000.00 is the correct way to type it
Is this how fucking stupid our "society" has become?
Tyler. Doing the hard work so we don’t have to. Nice guy.
"ok let's have a look on the cheap pedalboard. Right, so first here is a pedal that allows to play through two amps. " That's funny.
Honestly, you sound good because you're a good player. None of this gear would matter if you didn't put in the work, sweat, blood and tears. I say work on the chops and make any "gear" sound like a million bucks!
Got a Donner blues drive for Christmas. I was a little unsure of it because I have a tube screamer already. Turns out I liked the donner far better😆
They are based on different circuits though. Granted, there isn't much difference between a boss blues driver and the donner one if you play them to someone blindfolded.
This is funny because I actually just finished building my very first pedalboard!! Great video man!!👍
a circuit is a circuit is a circuit.
there is a certain variety in the specific values of the components used, but a circuit is circuit.
Ngl, with the distortion added, I like the tone of the expensive one a lot more, but I guess that is not really a surprise.
The expensive does have a cleaner kinda smack to it but you can’t lie the cheap pedal board goes hard too
And the reverb is much more coherent, deeper and cleaner and the shit board is really undeniable muddy when Tyler plays chords in the low end
I mean my first impression at the beginning, I definitely preferred #2 over #1 just listening without knowing the difference.
I commented after hearing the #1 pedalboard only, 15 seconds in, without hearing #2 board, because I could already tell it was the shit board. Your ears know the difference. Stick with it.
I, personally, am a pretty big fan of the Donner pedals. They sound good for just around $30-$40
Caline puts put some decent units as well.
Mooer as well
Me with no money at all to afford either board whatsoever.....
Are you poor?
@@FlorianGuitar85 One might not be poor and not be able to afford either. It's a matter of priorities. Some people like to prioritize going on vacation every year, and other people prioritize fixing their house and getting idk a new washing machine. Either will say they can't afford the opposite (the vacation one will say they can't afford a new washing machine, and the washing machine guy will say he can't afford the vacations). It's all about priorities

I have been using nothing but Donner pedals exclusively for a year. Wah/volumizer combo, ultimate comp compressor, blues drive, black rat distortion, yellow fall delay, square verb reverb, and nano Looper. Given that tone is 99% in the players hands, these have done wonders in spicing up my practice time and inspiring. Just take the time to learn what sounds please you. If it makes you want to create, you're good!
The-Multi-Effects-Pedal guys, assemble..
Assembled, HX Stomp user.
I actually had a Boss multi-effects pedal that I used for about 2 years (still mess around with it sometimes) before getting into the standalone analog pedals
Always a multi guy. I usually need to change multiple sounds at once and I'm not good enough to do the Eric Johnson magic tap dance.
I'm more of a hybrid guy, using Hx stomp for Amps, Delay's and reverbs. I like using analog drives and modulations. But I can definitely get away with just the HX Stomp and a 8 Butten midi controler
Yes, I wonder why guitar players avoid multi-effects pedals and instead assemble bulky boards of simple-effect pedals. VOX makes a pedal that has 100 tweakable effects, tuner, and its own expression pedal, which sells for less than US$100. Isn't that good enough for 99.99% ?
Meanwhile me rocking the free plugins in my free trial of logic x
I like how he looks down and away from the camera when he says "I don't think either board comes out on top" LMAO. We know what he really thinks.
"..worth about 7500..."
Worth? Nah bro, costs. Not worth that though in my humble opinion. It's not THAT uniquely perfect.
i love how this dude will not leave us without content for long time
The sound is in your head & hands...and if you know how to achieve a certain sound you can get pretty much the same result with cheapo gear as well. The difference is all about features and nuances that will be lost once in band context. I bet no one could ever hear the difference from a Ce2 to one of the many china clones while a band is playing in a pub. I remember I was shocked seeing Beta Aivin pedals after hearing amazing sounds in a pub . The guitar player was a monster but poor...amp (Mesa express) and guitar were borrowed from his friends. He only had those 3 Beta Aivin pedals: distortion, chorus and delay, using the amp only for cleans.
^This. One of my favorite ''rigs'' to playing through is my '94 Jackson PS-4>Danelectro Fab Metal>Azor Analog Delay>2000 Peavey Bandit Red Stripe 112.
the sound comes from the pedals and the amp, you know, the thing that creates the sound and the things that put effects on it? its really that simple
Dude tyler you should do a collab with troglys guitar show and play some pretty rare guitars

Been mulling over putting together my first pedal board for about a month now....if I buy the Donner stuff you used in this video, I could buy another amp to justify the ABY pedal!
tbh the pedalboard #2 sounds slightly better, but if you just listen to the final jam without looking at the video, its hard to differentiate, and its hard to tell that two different pedalboards were used
Both pedal boards sound excellent, but I prefer the warmth of the more expensive one. The Donner pedals sound like a great value though. Awesome guitar playing as usual by the way!
Even better than just an ABY box, the Eventide Micropitch Delay. So much better than just splitting to 2 amps.
My board costs...
Nothing cuz I don't have 1
Yeah... It is good and interesting/fun to play with but, nope.. Not 4 me. I would take 9K board over this for sure.
I play with headphones plugged into my amp. do I have to use the speaker to get the full effect of the amp? also these are studio headphones that are about $50 so I'm using a crappy pair of earbuds or anything.
Most obvious donner advert since I last walked past our local kebab shop and saw that big tasty rotisserie in the window (minus "n").
4:03 I think your ABY box is broken. Only hear the second amp and then the blended sound was the same.
Essentially made your own dotted 8th delay with your donners 😅 I dig it
I'm not even gonna lie, I prefer the sound of Pedalboard #1, it just has more flavor
proves that sometimes, cheap can be even better than expensive
I‘ve seen guys trashing other guitars players on a 90 bucks Epiphone paired with a Roland Cube 30.
I‘ve seen guys making a fool of themselves with a multi thousand dollar rig.
It‘s all in the skill.
Get a guitar that makes you want to pick it up, buy a Kemper and you‘re set for eternity. The only thing you need to add is practice, practice and again practice.
@@flowryan5829 one of my favorite metal bass players uses a beat up Squire p-bass.

Surprised to not see the C-Blocker and something by Strymon . I figure good hands, a good or excellent guitar and then the signal chain . I have the guitars covered .. the rest needs work . Nice outro playing Tyler .
as a pedal enthusiast, i think the difference is minimal between pricey-budget friendly with the right pedals. You can get very very similar tones that are virtually indistinguishable to a regular audience. What i find is that often times unless youre really listening for the difference, its almost unnoticeable.
but i am unfortunately still a sucker for those pricey hype train boutique pedals
I hope I can build my own pedalboard some day
What's stopping you?
Distinct Chris Buck vibes in today's playing. Sounds great.
Was about to comment the same thing lol
I was noticing he’s copped the pick tucking technique. No shame, not dissing. Just noting the influence Chris is already having on guitar. And it’s a good thing.
They're both great, but Chris has phenomenal feel and expression. He's truly something special. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Yet Chris's videos only get 50-100K views?
Also, the quick half step slide after a bend, classic Chris Buck
Yeah, definately. He is one of the best original guitar players out there, everyone learning from him a bit, huge inspiration to us all :)
Watching your videos convinced me to buy a guitar and start my journey, 1 day in! Thanks :)
Honestly they both sound amazing. It really just boils down to what your looking for. That’s usually why professional guitarist have a ton of pedals and several amps in their inventory. That is one of the things I like about “The Edge”. He buys a guitar and plays it as it was purchased, he doesn’t change the pickups or pots. He looks for his distinctive sound within his guitar and pedal amp combinations. He experiments with a lot of different stuff until he finds something that sounds right for that particular need.
Have to confess to being one of those guys who has a $5k pedalboard. Maybe I fell for the marketing BS. Genuinely preferred the cheaper one here. Maybe there is a lesson here for me.
Honestly, all I hear is. Buy the gear you like and can afford. Doesn’t always need to be a 5000$ Klon, but it’s also fun if you do 😂 the Donners sound usable at the very least
The Truth about the guitar pedals.....
That the half or 2/3 of your followers (including me) have one pedal, one guitar, and one amp
I mean it's a lie I have a bass aswell but whatever, you get what I want to say.
The older and more experienced I’ve gotten the more I gravitate towards simple reverb delay and a good drive section.
Honestly no one cared when I had a bigsky, micro cosm, king of tone, avalanche run or even my chase bliss mood and thermae
Eventually sold it all to get my dream amp and cab

It’s been 2 years since I bought another pedal and honestly don’t want to ahaha.
Just my good ole simple reverb and delay
i can listen to him improvising on ANY pedal board .... he is just amazing!!
I felt so betrayed when you announced that you did not buy the 500k Klon...
Some great explanations. On headphones the more expensive one sounded better to me but not 8750 dollars better. Some great tips however for setting up the pedalboard and great to see Tyler playing a strat. Like really great.
How much did the power supply cost, though. ;)
Whenever he breaks out the Klon its gonna sound great....and i think that is the main difference between the pedal board sounds. I would like to hear pedal board 1 with the Klon....
The main difference was the mic positions. Around neck on board 1 and around bridge on board 2.
Or the cheap pedal board with a clone Klon: the NUX Horseman or Joyo Tauren. The Donners are NUX's anyway.
I think the Klon makes the biggest difference in tone here, but it's also not a $8750 difference. Or even $4,970 difference. Both sound great and it's amazing what manufacturers like Donner have been able to do for people on a budget these days.
I had around a $1,300 pedal board before I sold it all off and got a Helix. I started realizing to get the pedals I wanted it was going to be a lot more than the Helix -- which already has all of them.
I had never even thought about stacking delays like that...they sound so good
all sponsors that exist: *how to get all products into video at once*
MiW: I sense a disturbance in the salesforce
Maybe first
The AB box is not overlooked; it's just not needed for the vast majority of single amp players. Might be essential to you and others who do what you do, but not to the vast majority of players.
Nice comparison video. Much appreciated. And that strat is lovely.
Every time Tyler mentions the Klon pedal, all I ever think about is a Klondike bar.
my pedals velcro came undone
I use exclusively cheap pedals (nothing more than $100) and it sounds pretty good to me. Maybe it doesn’t sound as good as it would if I splurged on more expensive pedals but I’m happy with it. They’re great if you want to try something for the first time or you just want a clone of a classic circuit to get a classic sound.
Tyler is the mr. beast of guitar
Me, who only owns a DS-1:
"interesting"
I think all of you youtube Klowns got together, bought all the Klons, and then released a wave of videos to raise prices. Genius!
Synthesizer sy-1, thats the only thing i need
Number 1 sounds so much better. Number 2 is almost too subtle to really get into.
I have one quote " expen$ive pedal " and yes it's a klon ktr . And yes it was worth it.. but the one I use the most is a Wampler tumnus. Go figure.
Great job T. I am quite impressed with the entire Donner line of products. Been seriously considering their $420 electronic drums. Mesh heads, decent foot pedals, everything you need for a home recording drum kit. My board ( 5 pedals) is a mix of older pedals, including a bargain pedal at the time Arion SAD-1 analog stereo delay, and 2 newer ones that are also inexpensive brands in the same line as Donner.
You probobly won't see this, please know that me and a lot others hate "The truth about" titels and I for one usually skip those videos.
I only entered because I could understand what the video is about.
straightforward titels work best IMO.

A while back I bought that same Echo Square pedal from Donner to use on a “practice” or “garage jam” spare board. After using it for a while, it now resides on my main board along with my Boss DD3. I also have their Harmonic Square and use it as an Octaver/harmony pedal. My only real criticism has nothing to do with the sound of these units, but with the build quality of the small, plastic knobs/dials. I don’t think they would hold up to the rigors of live gigging but for the price, I guess it’s one of the compromises to consider. That being said, the sound quality and features are well-above their price point.
$2500 rig everything from digital-analog $30-$300 plus...... I think you need them all lol. If it sounds good buy it!!
Thanks...always figured I needed to spend more to get more...I’ll be changing my ways now ...maybe...maybe not.
when you added the reverb and started playing I instantly made the "stank face" - damn that sounded good!
I do think board #2 sounds better (edit: not saying board #1 sounds bad)... but not $8750 better. That price point is insane, especially given more than half the price is in a single pedal.
Hey Tyler, not a criticism just a question.
Did you dial in the expensive board brighter for a difference or was it not possible to get to quite the same clarity on the Donner setup?
Just wondering.
Great vid regardless
All the best
👍✌😎
So, here's what gets me... you know all those videos of professional guitarists playing "the cheapest guitar on..." Amazon, Walmart, etc.? Well, typically, they can make that $120 guitar sound better than me playing a $1,200 guitar. Soooooo, I have no business buying a $14,000 PRS until I can get a $1,200 guitar to sound as good as a $120 guitar. The other option is to watch Tim Henson play "Playing God" unplugged, and then simply burn all of your guitars and give up all together. 🙂
I like the Nike vs Under Armor vibe... of course the demo and playing are both stellar!
My 2 cents which is worth nothing the more expensive rig has better tone! But if you aren't a pedal guy the lower end will get you by. These days you have so many options.
If only one of those pedal boards could tune your G string😂
Its not really a $9000 board....because no one in their right mind pays 5000US$ for a pedal...
I have bought a lot of donner pedals, and with weekly practice and twice monthly shows, they die in about a year. They do sound good though.
I was supposed to get a klon for Christmas in 1997 for 250 bucks. Never got it. I remind my dad quite often about that.........
I use to have that kind of Noise supressor, and it was first pedal what I ever bought. Yesterday I give My compressor away and change that 2 pedals, one Noise supressor, and one multieffect pedal by Zoom.
the 9k rig sounds like shite tbh. Fair play Donner, their pedals sound more contemporary, with less 'classic crock' tones. I would have liked to hear the demo with a modern RG or Jem, not a 60 year old piece of garbage that are strats.
My pedalboard is pretty simple. Boss Tuner, Cry Baby Mini, Pocket Metal Muff, Blues Driver, Boss Reverb straight into amp. I basically have everything I need. The way I look at it, my guitar heroes got way more out of using way less. I think I'm fine.
I refuse to spend fortunes on any pedal. I would love the Woman Tone Clapton pedal, or the Tech21 Doug Pinnick and Steve Harris pedals for bass, but I'm not paying £300+ for a pedal, when I can get good effects pedals for £40-100. It's a steel or aluminium box, with a few cheap components.
Man I love cheap stuff... cheap, cheap, cheap. If it looks cool and does the job I'm in.
Me watching: "Guitars do more than just distortion?!"
👁️👄👁️
Ok, so let’s get this straight. The cheap pedals....sorry...the affordable pedals will sound good when blended thru two amp sims and other effects on the DAW?
When you edit these, do you ever notice stuff like this? That your completely missing the point of your own video?
Big boy pedal board (way to make your audience feel good) slightly more expensive pedals.(36 times more expensive).
Absolutely cringe.....
I just broke down a $2000 pedalboard and bought a Headrush. It’s easier, sounds better and does more. That said, I kept my Donner Yellow Fall delay. I love that thing. Also kept my Blues Driver 2 and my Vox wah. Somethings you just gotta have.
..in saying all of that... whether its $40.00...or $400.00 ....find the pedal that works for you ...it's then you'll play better .
HE DIDNT BUY THE 500,000 KLON????? UNSUBSCRIBING FROM THIS LIAR!!!!!
Not gonna lie... I kept looping the last part of the video just for the music...
I have only two pedals, a Boss RC-5 and a HX Stomp, so literally, I have ALL the pedals. Would I buy a Klon? No, I don’t play guitar for a living and even if I did, I still wouldn’t. Would I buy Donner pedals? Sure, if they were in stock. I tried to buy a Donner Looper pedal, every time I went buy one they were out of stock, so I bought the RC-5 instead.
I really liked the tune at the end of video, very nice!
