E18 | The Big Lap of WA - Bullara and Giralia Stations (Exmouth Gulf)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 лис 2020
- This episode we leave 40 Mile Beach free camp (South of Karratha), and find ourselves camping on the Ashburton River in the middle of a sand storm.
We check out the abandoned township of Old Onslow, and then move onto Bullara Station - a quirky low cost station stay with heaps to do for all the family.
After a couple of nights there we take the short drive to Giralia Station where we set up on the beach in the Exmouth Gulf for a couple of nights of epic sunsets and magnificent views.
Next week we are passing through Exmouth and staying in Cape Range National Park, epic coastal camping with the Ningaloo Reef just meters from us!
Thanks for watching!
Cam, Tiff and Chloe.

Cam and Tiff this series is amazing, can't believe some sad sack has actually given you a thumbs down! How awesome is WA!!!!!
Chloe will definitely thank you both later in life. Keep the great videos coming
I'm with Chloe, I'm not going anywhere until I've had my breakfast!
😂
Hi from Vienna/Austria. After watching your videos for months now we have to say Thank You to you for sharing them. 2 years ago, we travelled by campervan from Darwin via Kacadu NP, Uluru, Kangaroo Island, Melbourne, Sidney to Cairns, altogether for 2 months, and we fell so much in love with the country and the people. Now we plan for a 4 - 5 months trip across WA, and with tons of material and books on my desk, honestly, your videos are the biggest inspiration for us. We love the way you present your trips, your insight, your country. So please keep going as we keep watching! Peter and Gerti
You say Australians not proud. I think it all, started when the English settlement started. So it was them that started it. But great travelling. Lived in the pilbra for 28years. A pleasant reminder of all the places your family is visited. Enjoy.
Cheerz
Loving the series, can’t wait until you do the full lap!
Another absolutely AMAZING video, Cam Tiff and Chloe. I'm so enjoying these. Have a great weekend, Keep up the great videos.
Drone work.. great exposition and just so clear....... shows this great country for what it is!! Best wishes to you 3
THANK YOU GREAT BEAUTY DETAIL VIDEO
You could do a cookbook, "Cam's Degustation". Matching beers to meals. VB with this, Emu with that, and XXXX with anything. You could make millions 😀
😂 love it!
Love these videos of yours - Great stuff - enjoy
Another fantastic vid love seeing all of the places you are visiting
Thankyou for another entertaining video. You’ve gotta love the wind and dust. We reckon your daughter had the right idea. Inland or coastal the scenery is certainly beautiful. Safe travels.
Great to see the Van is holding out well! Also Love your precision measuring of ingredients whilst concocting your culinary creations. 😂
Another very informative episode. Great work guys
Nice one Guys, Cheers and take care.
love all your videos - best and most informative on you tube
Another great vid guys 👍👍👍
Loving your videos guys 🥂
Always so interesting
Great episode again guys. Living the dream. Well semi covid restricted dream. Some really awesome country. Chloe will love looking back on the footage in years to come. And I bet she is learning so much from the trip, Which she won’t realise till later.
Awesome episode again. Some great spots and sunsets. That wind would have driven me insane!! Damper looked like it came out well, will try that I think! See you next Saturday. Cheers.👍👍.
We're out of season heading down the coast in these episodes (had planned to be across the top end by then). But it is WA - Windy Always 😂
Great episode again guys really done👍
Fantastic vid crew
Thanks folks, nice video :)
Really enjoying your vid’s and giving us some great ideas for when we tour WA in the next few years. Did a bit of the Kimberley 2 years ago and can’t wait to get back. Cooked up your choc choc damper on our travel buddy and yum, yum yum. Best part is the smell 😍👍
Thank you
Great spots👍👍
Great video As always.
Thank you again I love you video's 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
The long legged starfish thingy is called a brittle star. Thanks for the vids guys
Stunning mate!
Another awesome video guys! I love sitting back and travelling through my home state vicariously. THere is so much to see and do that I did not do and see when I lived in WA. All of those beaches are amazing, some of the bluest waters and amazing sunsets. And yet another great Cooking with Cam segment! Hubby and I have collective itchy camping feet and we cannot wait to hit the road ourselves. A little more than 3 months before we get there too. Not WA at this point, we have to escape Victoria first.Take care and keep up the great work Cam, Tiff and Chloe.
Woohoo, excited for you! The countdown is on!!
I don’t think I’m going to get used to not having your touring videos every week! I can’t wait to see the real big oz tour one day 😊
2025 we're booking the year off 😂
But lots happening until then!
Spewing you guys are heading home and not doing the lap of Aus Such great content👍
Learnt plenty this trip to do it bigger and better. 2025 is already penciled in!
fill that tree up with bottles just for your stay ay cam!!!! mint episode as always!
If it was dripping in export cans you'd know it was me 😂
Another great episode guys. That thing you asked about is a Brittle star incase someone hasn’t mentioned already.
That is a brittle star fish.
Cheers!
Cam, you have to get yourself an induction cooker. I recently upgraded to one and can highly recommend for windy conditions
We have got one, I thought nahhh I won’t use it on the trip 🤦♂️ should have taken it!
Notice your tire pressures were high, if I did that in my Defender I would need a mouth guard over corrugation 🤣
6.04 Good on you for including the hidden dark side of Aussie History.
Notes for future Cam, pluggas like tyres come in many grades for different terrain and operating conditions. Someone should make airbag pluggas, the going gets rugged air-down, the load get higher air-up.
“I don’t do recipes” - Me neither but while I’m not doing recipes I’m not feeding anyone either. Watching this is motivating me to try, perhaps one day.
😂 I need to cut the carcass of a mud terrain tyre apart and make my own thongs!
@@WildTouring make two pairs I’ll buy the second set.
Is next Saturday here yet Love the video's Tell Chloe goat is better than lamb maybe the next one that tries to eat her dress! Have an All Spark battery in transit and a 20l Kmart micro wave on the shopping list. Were in lock down in SA but escaping at midnight tonight
Woohoo! Get away while you can 😂
I have lived in Onslow the past 19 years and spent a lot of time at the Ashburton river. I have seen crocs in this river a few times now and I know they say they are sick but I don’t believe that is true. Crocs need salt into fresh to breed & de-louse so this river is perfect for them. Since crocs have been protected & no longer hunted they have been finding their way further south. Sorry about the wind but it quite normal at this time of year. Enjoy.
Yeah you might be right there mate!
hows the butterflies and art at Bullara, like that place but we were down the back and copped a dust storm, still enjoyed it.
this episode 2 beers long but makes the beers go down well.
so me drinking a whole carton in this time is bad......?
😂
Another great video, it's become my Saturday morning ritual.. ;).. did you fit the heat shield door on the travel buddy? did it improve cooking times and quality at all? thanks.
We did. It's a very good quality kit and easy to fit (you will need a rivet gun, but he even provides drill bits and rivets). It must be making the oven more efficient, but I havnt noticed a reduction in cooking time or less power use.
A good wind brake for your stove.. go to Bunnings and get a roll of aluminium flashing about $15 fold it around the stove cut to size. Works good, I don’t go anywhere without it. When your finish just roll it up and put it in the draw.
Need to do this. Next time we pass through somwhere with a Bunnings I'll do it!
Another great Ep guys! say, are you showing any signs of scurvy? (don't be offended I'm only trying to be funny :-) ) bahaha! oh, and what a shame the 'Marilyn' moment didn't make the final cut! keep up the good work guys.
You 100% get crocs in the Ashburton
Love the videos, Wild one’s! Just like you we love our coffee, so please need some advice on how?
How do you froth your milk when you’re not on mains? We have the coffee side of it sorted it is just that velvety frothy milk we desperately need😂
Keep making your videos and we will keep watching 👍😃
Vid coming out soon with all the details on exactly how we do ours.
But the milk frother is the Breville BMF600 - we love it because you can manually dial in the temp you want and it can heat/froth 600ml of milk at a time!
We have a battery powered wand “thingy” from IKEA that we use to froth the milk once it’s heated. I’ll try and find a link
Wow calm down on the sauce 😂😅
😂
Another great episode, What are you using as a doona on the queen bed ? By the way you maybe able to head in to SA again soon.
We have a Coleman sleeping bag each :) saves fighting over one doona haha
That’s the way we are going I think and don’t take up a lot of room and if really cold you have your own bags so no v CB old feet from my wife to contend with!
When you was up Lake Argyle area and it was stinking hot, do the windows in the pop top come in handy ?
The windows in the pop top are brilliant. Come in handy most days to air out or cool down the van quickly. We love having a pop top, hoping when we upgrade we can find the layout we need in a poptop.
Hey mate just a quick one for you. Those Stedi lights, are you using 1 bolt to hold them in place on your bullbar or 2/3? I ask as I’m about to install mine soon & my bullbar only has a single slot, wondering if I need to drill out another hole for them. Cheers
Definitely drill out the bar to put all 3 bolts through, especially if you'll be doing a lot of corrugations. I'm a lazy bugger and only used the centre bolts. The weight of the spotties vibrating off-road actually tore the bolt out (ripped a dirty big hole in my bar!)
@@WildTouring I thought that would be the case. Thanks for the heads up mate much appreciated! Safe travels✌️
Hey mate. I’ve just purchased a mdc camper and I would be honoured to chat to you ad get some tips. I follow all your trips with the family. Selwyn.
Happy to answer any questions.
Can shoot me an email at wildtouring1@gmail.com
Hey mate, another cool vid. What brand are those fans you've got in the van? Looking for some for my forward fold. Cheers
Sirroco
Yeah Sirocco, great fans. Pricey though. In my forward fold I bolted some c clips to the bottom of them so they could be clipped to any pole inside the camper or outside under the awning. Then wired up a few meters of twin core to a cigarette plug so that it could reach anywhere.
How are you guys coping with the heat up north ? Do you have air con in that hybrid ... Or just using regular fans ?
We didn’t get the air con and wished for it many times 😂😂 but in all honestly the fans are fantastic and on the really hot nights it’s all we needed. Air con just would have been nice on a few of those 40+ degree days we had when it was too uncomfortable to sit outside and there was no where to swim without being eaten by a croc 🤣
@@WildTouring ha ha.. cheers guys !
mental note for myself.."get air con when buying my hybrid next year "
You planning on heading south bound too cam? Like Denmark ways?
Yeap Vids are way behind, we're beach hopping the south coast as we speak!
Hey guys. How do you find the seats in the dmax on long trips?
We find them fine, have seen lots of people are unhappy with them on the FB groups. But we did come from a Povo pack 105 series Land Cruiser 😂
hey guys, noticed the night clock above chloes bed. Which one is it please? Would be ideal for us.
Oricom sleep trainer. It's been a life saver for us!!
Another brilliant video guys, the indignant look on Chloe's face as the goat nibbled her dress was priceless. The treatment of Aborigines in early Australian history is definitely shameful, unforfunately it's been a sad part of world history for 100's & 1000's of years. A greater, more advanced force/country taking over another, certainly not a unique situation to our local indigenous. Not an excuse though!
Well said Ian.
Thats my 200 in the back at around the 9:40 mark. Lol
😂 small world! Great place hey!
@@WildTouring definitely is, would be good to go back with out the wind. We got it every day, got better the last 2
Hey Cam,
How much power does the travel buddy use when you run it for 1hr and 45min? Damper looked good😋
If you use a 15v step up converter pre heat is only 30 mins and baking time 1hr
Draws 10a, so 1hr 45mins is roughly 17.5ah (would probably be less if it hit temperature and thermostat cut in).
Michael did you notice a real difference with a step up converter?
I've have this TB connected to my old AGM battery bank, which sat at around 12.5v running (with some voltage drop). And now it's connected to my lithium bank it runs at a consistant 13.5v, it's obviously more power efficient but Havnt had any real noticeable reduction of cooking times.
@@WildTouring Cam the 13.5v will match the TB times when driving but the 15V is where there is a dramatic improvement
Check out “lock your hubs 4wd”
Go to product reviews “ improving your TB performance “
I’ve got the Kick Ass and the step up converter from eBay running on a 100ah AGM
I hook up my solar blanket when not driving and using the oven
I can’t afford lithium yet
The ah’s will go up but because the pre heat and cooking times are much shorter the overall ah’s to do the job is much less
I can’t remember if you’ve told us but how much water do you take with you? Do you have one or two tanks? How often are you refilling?
😀
200 litres. Our van came with a 120l fresh water and a 80l grey water. I converted the grey to fresh water before it was ever used!
Water generally lasts us 4 days, but we're stretched it to 6 days when we've had to. That's with three of us showering once a day, dishes, drinking water, toilet and occasionally washing clothes (although we generally don't wash clothes until we stay somewhere with wager available).
That’s a great idea!
I’m looking at a New Age manta ray 16ft and it only has one water and a grey tank. I’d think free camping I’d need a 2nd tank but it can’t go on this particular van size. Good thought about converting the grey tank... thanks for answering 😀
@@ladysusanjane2682 they look like a great van. You could always convert your grey water tank to fresh water and then take a small portable grey water tank if you're ever staying somewhere you have to be fully contained. They make some good little 40l units that sit on the floor and plug into your run off. We sort of do the same thing, but just use a Jerry can. We've only had two places in 120 nights of camping that have enforced grey water collection though.

How do you get find water during your trip
We check wikicamps for water taps available. Most towns offer them for free.
Brittle star
Cheers!
We have a Afrikaans saying, "gekke en dwase skryf hul name op mure en glase", rougly translated this means idiots and fools write their names on walls and windows. So yeah, I also don't know why people feel the need to write their names everywhere
What do they actually provide for $24 per night at Giralia Station? I can't understand how they (not just Giralia - but a whole bunch of these sites in WA), justify charging for driving on and staying on land that was probably given to their forefathers (although it was not theirs to give). I understand paying for improvements, toilets, water, showers etc., but a dirt track? In my mind that is immoral and repugnant.
Not much mate, to be honest we didn’t particularly enjoy Giralia. Condition of the road out to the beach was terrible and the only facility we did require (the dump point) was overfull and spilling out on the bush when we tried to use it.
@@WildTouring Take care guys.
@@MrFastFarmer Yep, we are run, governed and crucified by the all mighty dollar.
The Masters and Servants Act had nothing to do with "slavery" as you claim. It related to conditions imposed on both employers and employed who had entered into contracts of employment. Today we have enterprise agreements under the Fair Work Act. Rather than enslaving aborigines, or anybody for that matter, it defined the employed as: "employed" shall include any servant, workman, labourer,
clerk, artificer, apprentice, or other person, whether under or
above the age-of 18 years, or Whether a married woman or not,
who has entered into a contract of service with any employer,
either at salary or wages, or for any remuneration...
Where did you get your information about "slavery"? Why do so many people assume the worst of our forefathers and slander them on the basis of smears invented by racist activists.
I enjoy your videos guys, but please don't join the throng of historical revisionists who want to destroy our history.
By the way, the little critter you found is a bristle star...
Either way Grahame it was pretty disgusting what we so called Australians did to the Aborigines, a hundred years ago. Whether it was under the "act" or not. Just saying...😉😉
Gday Garry. I wasn't around 150 years ago so I can only state the facts as they're recorded and presented to me - according to the plaques around that Old Onslow ghost town that were erected by the local government, those cells with shackles were mostly used to hold aboriginals detained under the master and servants acts. They were forced to agree to contracts they didn't understand and were beaten and/or imprisoned if they did not comply.
You're right, the masters were obliged to pay a token wage as per the Act.
Slavery is my interpretation of the facts presented to me, appologies if that offends you. Call it what you like.
On a personal note, I don't feel responsible for the actions of dead people centuries before me. I don't feel a need to appologise. But I also don't bury my head in the sand about Australia's history.
@@WildTouring fair enough but you can read the actual Act yourself. That's all I did.. Don't rely on propaganda, especially that which is divisive and clearly derogatory.
It is a shame that it happens so often.
Thanks again for your channel. You do a great job. Lovely family...👍
