My family is from Hawick. My dad grew up and was friends with Steves dad Sandy. I was only 5 when I met Steve and Gary. Great times. When I found out he'd died I just got home from work and mum told me, she was in tears, so was I after that. My dad and granddad were both keen on bikes.I read MCN faithfully every week, I was thrilled to see Steves progress. I've had my own bike since I was a teenager, I always hoped I'd make a trip to the TT to see him race. I've no doubt theres something in the water in Hawick that sends us all crazy about motorbikes.
I did a my first track day in 2002 on a Cagiva Mito and Steve was instructing. A lovely bloke and some seriously talanted bike racer. He is, was, and always will be, my motorcycling hero.
I met steve at the tt many times he was always polite and nice person, what a rider never went as far as he should have done, like all racers who pass ,a very sad day ,what a legend rip
A real champion our hizzy. So sad. Guy was so focused... boy was a real gladiator.. Tore up Scarborough that's for sure , and often , too like a boss...
As far as I'm concerned, Hizzy is the greatest. Full stop. Wanted the flying haggis helmet so much when it came out, finally got no73, 3 years back, mega money, but takes pride of place in the front room. So I gotta copy painted by rage designs to wear always.

Nobody could touch Hizzy on his day at any Track including the Roads. The lad is surely missed by many. RIP Steve.
