The galloper guns seem like a lot of fun. All those Shadow of the Horned Rat screenshots really took me back in time too, what a fun time it was to play Warhammer back then.
I have so many of these guys in 28mm. The pikemen were rolled over even there. 27attacks agains a Chaos knight unit and not one wound. I am still scarred! :-) (I think I have 3 units of pike.) Afraid they are well down the "must buy" list. Good to see all the old art work.
I love your podcasts, they really hype me for Warmaster. I'd love to start an Ogre Kingdom army and I can't wait for a podcast of yours abot them if you do one anyday ! :D Keep doing great work and thank you !
Favorite fantasy army and with the Polish Lighting Miniatures I can have models that look like the originals. The ogres and birdmen are particularly amazing.
recently discovered Warmaster revolution and i am very interested in playing dogs of war, but i am disheartened to hear that pikemen are considered a tax. i know that they got a point drop this year but it still seems like you would only take the minimum amount. would pikemen being able to claim defended status against cavalry charges to there flanks be to over powered? i feel like that would better reflect the early pike and shot tactics that tilea and estalia's pikemen would use, but i understand that game balance is more important. thanks for making these videos and introducing me to this game!
I feel that a lot of people are stuck o the pike image as the maccedonian phallanx, only defensive thin line that is only good frontally in comparison to the rennaisance thick pike block that can be used on the ofensive ans is resiliant on the flanks
Hi there. I have a question about the defended status of the pikemen. Maybe here you can clarify it for me. Let's say a pike unit is defended on a hill, higher ground, and receives a frontal cavalry charge. Would the two defensed status be added together and would it be considered fortified? Would the cavalry need to roll a 5 or a 6? Thank you very much.
Defended status does not stack. So pikemen count as defended vs cav and chariots that charge them in the front, when the pikemen are in open ground, on a hill or behind a wall. The benefit to putting them on a hill or behind a wall is that is gives defended status vs infantry and missile fire from any direction. Defended status means enemy gains no charge bonus attacks and hits on a 5+
@@iainmstanding That's an interesting dilemma then for the unit. Are Pikemen viewed by others as being reasonably balanced? Hard to see what other adjustments could be made to bring them up a notch, if they are generally viewed to be undervalued. A small points decrease perhaps?
Good video, but I never really like this faction. It's always look like an empire army, with less fantasy elements. Their only fantasy elements are the birdmen, all the rest are just borrowed from other factions.
@@MonCompteTubulaire you are correct sir! Dogs of war had a codex going back to 5th edition (or was it 4th). Ogre kingdoms didn’t have a list until 6th ed. So it was ogre kingdoms that came second.

Amen brother. Shadow of the Horned Rat remains one of the toughest video games I have ever played.
Yes I told my brother the bird men are a horde of flyin Brian blesseds. Iv been waiting for this one cheers
Flash! Ahhh!
Man I wish the dogs of war minis were more accessible. Some of the most interesting minis were in that line
Etsy has them and Polish Lightning minis has most of the line. They are amazing!

Polish Lightning minis just added Asarnil the Dragonlord to their catalog! It's beautiful!
very good Faction focus. love your content
Glad you enjoy it!
A pity the pikemen don’t seem to work very well. It looks so freaking cool with massed ranks of pikes!
Based on this video the rules committee are looking at how to improve them.
@@iainmstanding how is that coming along
@@tankatim13 Voting will begin on new proposals this year. I'll be arguing for a 5+ save on the pikemen for no increase in cost.
@@iainmstandingThanks for the reply.
3D printer coming in March. So be printing bretonnia for me and dwarves for brother.
@@iainmstanding are there any news regarding the update?
YES! I'm so happy its finally here!
Another great update, i think i'm destined to be broke :-)
It's a pity for the pikemen. I wanted to gather an army with a large hammer of pikemen, depicting the glorious Spanish tercio. (((

love all your videos!
Thanks!
Love your vídeos¡ I just need a Chaos Dwarves one¡¡

Crossbow men should’ve been the besiegers. armour 6+ and large shield against range +5

Would you change your assessment of Pikemen now that it looks like they're going to be getting a 5+ save in the developmental rules?
Yes, although my proposal is not popular as it is viewed as too powerful.

We fear the enemy 😅
I'm curious as to your current opinion of the pikemen now that they have a 5+ armor instead of 6+.
I think they work as intended.
