I was about to return my brand new Victus. Wouldn't run and I couldn't figure out how to open it without breaking it, til I found this video. Turned out to be a RAM issue. Thank you TechNitWit!!
you have no idea how many times I have come back to this video for my Victus. Thank you sooooo much
Glad it helped!
@@TNW1337 can you tell me what you used
@@real-wez check the description. He lists all the parts used there. He also has another video that shows all the compatible GPUs and the required power supplies for them.
@@daltonridgeway ok but can I match a ryzen 7 GeForce rtx 4090
@@real-wez some people have done it. The 4070 tdp is ~200watts so you'd need a 500watt power supply. Also you'll need to watch the length of the card and possibly need to remove the black mesh support piece from the side of the case for clearance. Also make sure the card you choose uses a normal 8 pin connector since that's all you'll have available on HPs proprietary power supply.
Edit: didn't see you said 4090. Short answer, no. Long answer, maybe, but I wouldn't recommend it.
thank you so much just bought a victus a while ago a bunch of buddies said i need to upgrade the ram so got 2x16 corsair ddr4 the ram is obviously one of the easiest parts but this is my first pc and thanks for showing how to take it apart much appreciated
I watched your unboxing when I was considering buying the Victus, so of course I came back to your channel when looking to upgrade the RAM (The Sims 4 is a beast that just keeps growing). A couple videos in, I'm also getting a new fan, and my other half is trying to convince me I already have a good GPU, and I don't need an SSD. I've never upgraded a PC, beyond putting in more RAM, but your videos are giving me ideas....
It never hurts if you love gaming. Great happy they helped! Also it is not that hard to upgrade as long as you take you time.
I have one of these: GTX1660Super/Ryzen 5 5600g. I’m only gonna upgrade the RAM. Easy as the task is, I appreciate the demonstration of how to do that 🙏🏼
You did an awesome job man I like how you break everything down so simple and always have links for everything
Thanks!!!
Agreed
Finally a vid about my particular PC. I now have the confidence to tackle that much needed RAM upgrade, possibly even some more memory too. thank you
Thanks bro, went from being illiterate when it comes to working on computers to knowing everything I needed to know about mine. Just adding the SSD for now but this info will definitely help with the other upgrades I have planned.
Where do u put the ssd on the hp victus 15l? Do u use an adapter to plug it into the pcie x1 slot?
Thanks for making this easy to understand, i just got this PC, and i hadn't even known how to update this stuff
Your welcome sir
Great video! I just got one of these on sale a couple days ago and was wondering how they were to open up. Mine has a bunch of decent parts I got one of the nicer ones. The only issue is it needs more storage. I was so glad to see that slot for an additional SSD. Thanks for making this video.
Welcome
@@TNW1337 Is the SSD you're installing at 11:08 the second SDD with the first one located elsewhere? I haven't opened my Victus yet, but I too need more memory.
@@TNW1337 what are the specs u getting on the build . I just bought mine and wonder if I can make it better or if it's good how u did it
You can go nuts with storage upgrades on these if you taper your expectations. I have a Pavilion, and at one time I ran a 8+10TB HDD setup alongside the included NVMe. Today I installed a $30 4TB HDD from eBay (just for games/weird formatting) on the inner lower front face, and two PNY SATA SSDs like the ones in the video in a Corsair Dual SSD caddy. The other thing needed was a SATA power extension cable to add more ports. The upper side removal grill is still available for another SATA SSD, and you can add more SATA ports via a PCI expansion card or use the slot to add a NVMe to PCI adapter. If you want to remove the included NVMe you can add a 6 port SATA to m.2 key.
Thank alot for the video . I have this HP. I haven’t done the ram yet. But just did the graphics card went from RTX 2060 to a RTX 4060. Amazed . Thank you #TechNitWit
which 4060 did u use? wanted to know if my ASUS Dual GeForce RTX4060 OC can fit in it
Thanks for this video! I upgraded the PSU to 500w and added a RX6750 XT. Significant improvement over the RX6400 it came with.
Nice work!

Appreciate these vids man I’ve got two of these now and ungraded them to the max using your vids
Cool Thanks for the comment!
Bro. Used your video and did all the upgrades like shown. You da man!
Great to hear! Thanks!
Great video... I just added two additional 2.5 SSDs (1TB and 1 500GB) to this model. The first I added exactly as described in the video. The second was added with a mounting bracket that I repurposed from my old Dell where the drive was housed. Sometimes, those mounting brackets also come with the 2.5 SSD. No holes to drill, just used some screws to attach the mounting bracket to the same part of the case described in the video. The OEM power supply had two cables available, and other than repurposing the SATA from my old computer, job done. At boot in Win 11 home, I checked disk manager and it recognized both drives automatically.
Hey, I'm new to building my pc so I have a question. After attaching it the same way he said in the video, what cables did you plug in to get it to work?
@@SCP_Personnel-TF Out of your power supply, there should be extra power cables (a little longer, and have an 'L' at one end of the adapter) and the SATA cable that actually transmits the data between the motherboard and the drive that you are installing. If you don't have an extra SATA cable (like from another desktop), you can pick up a new one for a few bucks. The description of this video has a couple to choose from. Hope this helps.

You can't order the 500 watt PSU anymore, and the 400watt cost $100. This build is dead and not cheap. Appreciate all the work you showed, and the nice step-by-step guidance.

Got this in white just because of the case, it’s so small and gets 1440 p gaming done comfortably, idk what B.S. they got in this that ppl would like to delete off it.
Yeah Not sure!
Fantastic video really appreciated how clear you made all the steps. The 500w psu you recommended is unavailable currently, is there a different one you can point me towards that will work with those graphics cards?
Do you know what other options there are regarding upgrading psu
Many many thx for the video and educating Us ,i like that your handy cam ...
Just purchased this PC and did some upgrades. I’m bummed out that my 3200 CL16 RAM is only running at 2666 CL19. Would have been nice if they specified 3200 at 1.2V. No XMP. C’est la vie
What's this mean
@@Exoticts_ it means that any ram above 2666mhz is a waste and you won't get the full use out of it.
Do you have the Intel or AMD version?
@@zeroturn7091 Intel. Why? XMP and Ryzen Master can both tweak, but many there are reports of people frying their boards. Best that can be hoped for is a BIOS update that unlocks XMP. But that is a fool’s hope.

I just ordered a 15L on sale with a GTX 3060 12GB Vram and the i7-12700 cheaper than I could have upgraded it myself. It comes with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB nvme.2 , but I'm installing 64GB or RAM, a 1TB nvme.2 and 2, 1 TB SSD's to round it out the second it hits my door. I edit videos frequently and needed more horsepower. Ive been using a XPS with an i7-4770 that was great new, but not much anymore. Thanks for the peek inside and case assembly and reassembly instructions.
did the 64gb of ram work? Read it can go up to 128gb.
@@zoukymix Yep, 64 GB of RAM worked. Everything worked. Plus, I installed an additional 6 USB 3 ports on the back using the only PCIe 1 slot available. Its a very fast computer and not bad for gaming either. Due to its small case size and limited fans. You'll hear them humming along at times while gaming. They've kept temps in check and in normal operating ranges. I would have considered buying a larger case and motherboard if temps were pushing the limits or stayed above normal operation range for extended periods. I won't be doing that.
It's the mamajama guy💯

Is there a good air cooler that you'd recommend? I wanna upgrade the stock cooler since my cpu reaches really high temps with the i7 12700f
Can't help but be a bit confused as your PSU is the size of an L77487-001 as opposed to the part number you have listed for the 500w PSU (L05757-800).
Was really comfortable to have purchased a Victus recently after watching your vids. Thank you for what you do for the community !
Same here, I got my vitctus from Walmart for 400$ when it should of been 800$ and I don't regret it at all, as it is stock its is very good

You should try the HP Envy! Maybe unbox the cheapest one and then upgrade it like you did with this HP! I just bought one with a i9-12900k/3070 so they can get up there!
Awesome video, I am going to be performing the same upgrades you did pretty soon, however the only difference is that I have an AMD chip rather than Intel. If possible, I would like to see you run a benchmark or just a gameplay video of Warzone 2.0 running on the upgrade because I can't even get it to run consistently on my own PC at stock. I understand a lot of people are having problems running the game but I know several people who can run the game for awhile without fail.

but I bought the victus 15l hp desktop but it was the intel i7 with the Rtx 3060 and I saw that the victus desktops couldn’t be upgraded but you can actually upgrade it? Or which parts can you upgrade. I’m not to tech savvy but I just want these simple answers for the future
You can get the version with Ryzen 7 5700g 32gb 3200 mhz ram and RX 6600 XT refurbished one for $600 better deal than the $450 to $500 everyone is buying. The refurbished one for $600 is 30% better than the cheaper one even with the upgrades.
Hi , thank you for your informative content , is the nvme upgradable on this machine ? For cpu "futureproofing" what do you recommand to pair with a gtx 3080 ti : A ryzen 7 5700g or an i5 124OOf ? knowing that the ryzen 7 config is 150 dollars more expensive

Love the video but quick question. What if I want to replace the motherboard?
unfortunately you cannot change the motherboard in this pc, its proprietary motherboard setup.
Hey so I recently purchased one of these but a little better spec version. However I'm wondering if there is anything to go by when upgrading the fans? I personally feel like a cooling upgrade is needed and don't wanna purchase unnecessary fans

I got a TG02-0020 on sale for a great price. I installed the HP V8 16GB Ram kit already but now I was adding a simple 1TB HP SSD for a little extra space. I saw you swapped to a straight cable for that. Is there one in the case already or will I need to purchase that cable? Or is there a way to mount it with using the existing cable?
Thank you for this video! I upgraded my own Victus 15L except with the PowerColor Fighter Radeon 6600XT. However, since installing, my computer has been intermittently locking up (at least once an hour while doing ordinary tasks) and I am having trouble determining whether it is a hardware or software issue. I’ve been running extensive diagnostic hardware tests (using the HP Software), but everything is coming up clean. I also reformatted but am still having the issue. Still no clue. I’m thinking about swapping my new GPU with my old one and see if the problem persists so I can isolate whether it’s the GPU or power supply (assuming it’s hardware related). Do you have any advice?
Thanks!
What Gpu did you use? Does it lock up and stay locked ? like you have to power cycle?
@@TNW1337 I'm getting the same thing happening. Mostly in-game but it happens not while gaming also. I have the i5-12400 and upgraded to the 3070 with the 500w psu. I have been needing to power cycle as well

Technitwit, quick question:
Around 12:30 you were talking about the black cage and usefulness, i was wondering if it was possible for an extra intake/output fan to fit on it? It looks like there is a screw pattern for a fan, i just never really knew if it was possible to put one in there.

Hi there, I am so glad you made this video! It is very good and informative! I'm in the process of upgrading my 15L. BUT, I'm having trouble locating the correct PSU. I talked to HP, and max for the Reno2 motherboard is 500W ( or so they are saying). BUT, finding the right PSU to take the place of the little 350W one is a challenge! Would it be ANY PSU that has "L05757-800" in the description of it?
Please give me any advice you can, i don't want to have to spend a fortune on a PSU. Thanks.
Probably the worst part with the HP custom systems: the PSU is specific to the manufacturer. Prices will unfortunately remain high for a replacement.
@@fluerr8919 I've also been trying to find out what the max PSU wattage is that you can use with the reno 2 motherboard (or 89B5 i think?) would be? The thing I'm trying to do is, I've got a RTX 3060 and I'm trying to get i tto work in the Victus 15L, but even with the 500w in, I just got a black screen. @@APIEngineering It’s not the motherboard itself, but rather the width/mounting points of the case which constrain choices. Adapters can always be purchased for custom connectors, but no way to shoehorn a standard psu into that case.
With a 500w psu, HP allows these to be customized with a 3060 ti. That gpu is hardcapped at 200w. I wouldn’t get a card with a higher draw.

Hey man, great video! I just got the same system, and of course, the original graphics card was awful! But, at least my finances allowed me to get a "Powercolor AMD Radeon RX 6400" low profile. However, I am disappointed that I am not receiving the crisp clear image on my desktop like I do on my tablet. I also have 32 gigs DDR4 ram. I figured it must be my power supply, which is the original 350 watt, and is the minimum for my new graphics card. This may sound crazy , but I'm not a computer expert. I am starting to take more of an interest in gaming right now though! Would you mind telling me the model number, etc for the "HP Victus 500 watt power supply"? Every search I do, it seems, appears to take me to the 350 watt or, I may find a 500 watt, but, it is always for "HP Envy" "Pavilion", etc. Never Victus! I've about given up. That PSU in your video is a 400W. The 500W is a different shape. it will still fit, though it won't line up with all the PSU screw holes. HP PN: L05757-800 is a totally different shape than the 350 and 400W units.

Hey, I´ve only recently found your channel and it´s helped me a lot when deciding for a new pc! I just can´t decide between Victus 15L and Acer Nitro 50. Both have same GPU, CPU, RAM, price... The only difference I believe is in the case itself. Which one would you recommend (in terms of cooling effect, ability to rebuild later etc)?
Both can be great. I'd go for the cheaper one. I like the acer little more room but needs a front fan.
what access to the UEFI do you get? I have a M 01F system, and the system won't allow access to any overclocking settings. Can you set resizable bar? can you set XMP? because my older 4700g system doesn't even show it in the bios. (nor can I adjust the video memory for the integrated graphics). Sort of wish you'd done the m.2 ssd upgrade, but still nice. Still the same case, too.
No the bios setting are pretty much locked. I will have to look in to the resize bar. I know the omens have it. Thanks for the advice 🙏👍.
@@TNW1337 part of it is that the system board is B550A (Erica 5). So, just a refresh of Erica 3 (B450? A320?). With a ryzen 5000 processor w/o igp, it should support PCIe 4 from the chip (graphics & m.2) but not otherwise.
B550A was only used in OEMs; cost cutting way to recycle the old chipset, and advertise it as "new". But the Vega chips only have support for PCIe 3.0. So, I am tempted now to pick up a 5600x used and see if it picks up the speed of the rx 6600 I put in it a couple days ago. So, my upgrade is similar to yours -- about a 6x increase in graphics.
What annoys me most isn't access to overclocking/ memory timings -- it is that the Vega 8 memory is capped, and it is NOT capped on commercial boards -- they just didn't let the user access the switch in the UEFI. I get that it is low power everything (why it doesn't support XMP) and you should not put a higher end processor in it (because that encroaches the gaming machine sales as well as heat throttling the CPU) but crippling the Vega during a graphics card shortage is irritating.
I had an rx 560 and used that to check the 400W power supply (THANKS!) and found the 4700G's 2100MHz graphics matching the framerates of the rx 560, but with a frequent stuttering; I don't know of any videos that actually tested what the 7nm parts did in the APUs; it is a major upgrade from the 14nmVega 11 in the R5 3400G, even with less cores.
I saw some photo channels talking about video editing on the 4700G, setting the video memory to 4GB or higher. So, the 512MB limit raises my bloodpressure, lol.
dopppeeeeee i found one locally going for $300 with the ryzen 5 and 8gb ram i think imma go for it
Nice, cheapest I can find one of those is around $650
Awsome, Pick it up its a good little gaming PC.
I just got this a week ago. First gaming pc.you have ti have to have to upgrade the ram inwejt with 32 (best bestbuy sale 20$ more than 16) going for a card next
Hey man love the video, just upgraded with a 1TB Samsung SSD and tomorrow will be installing the Gskill 2x16 GB RAM. I know I have to format the SSD, do I have to do anything with the RAM? This is my first PC so still learning, thank you so much!!
RAM is automatically detected as soon as it boots. If it doesn’t, make sure RAM is fully seated, that happen to another computer when installing RAM.
@@boltboardblog688Thanks man! Appreciate you, just installing my RAM now :)
Hey I have a question what other power supplies can I buy since the one you posted is no longer available
You'll have to dig an search using the model number, might be able to find some used ones. He has the model number listed.
One question, what video card did you have before, the one you removed?
Thx so much
Noobie question - did the scews you used to mount the SSD onto the tray come with that drive or did you have to buy them seperately?
