I spend the majority of money on my guns. You can make fun of my gear all you want, but your $1200 “impression kit” doesn’t help you shoot me with plastic BBs 🤷♂️
I've spent a ridiculous amount on gear for two reasons. 1. I'm a self admitted gear whore. 2. I play airsoft with the same gear I train and shoot in. Airsoft allows to test my gear setups or a new product that might offer me an advantage in a force on force scenario without the learning curve of combat. Also BB's are way cheaper then my XM262's or 9mm critical defense. So it's a great training aid especially for weapons manipulation and draw stroke with out wearing out my BCM or my glock.
If you are strapped for cash, Remember, we're playing dress up with a bunch of weird dudes not in some warzone Replica will do you fine. You can even get those surplus Chicom Type 56 Chest Rig that will cost you less than 10 bucks, And people actually go to war with those

For some reason its always the cheap stuff that breaks, never the high quality stuff. If something breaks you tend to replace it with something better. Been playing for 20 years and a lot of my stuff is now Gucci nylon through trial and error. You can get really good stuff like Tactical Tailor at a price comparable at repro nylon. If I could make 1 recommendation that would be not to skimp on mag pouches. The difference between a really good pouch, like a taco pouch, and a generic repro mag pouch is really really huge and nothing will annoy you like a mag pouch that doesnt work.
I've found that the "premium" chinese clone gear is still cheap but often uses supposedly American made fabrics and Aliexpress has sales always on those brands. I don't know how much attention Viper gets in the US but for the UK Viper tactical gear is relatively common to find on the field. I run a Viper JPC that I've had since I started it out and it is yet to fail me, interestingly the rubber shoulder straps are actually solid, not even managed to tear them.
I've brought up this point before on other channels I think it's funny airsoft people want expensive real gear then a lot of my guys and me who deployed to Iraq used cheap knockoff everything besides the mandatory IOTV and kevlar.
Looking at it from a civilian perspective, I wonder if a lot of it has to do with civilians thinking gear is super cool and getting nerdy about minutiae, while military members who had to wear it for work are less likely to find as much novelty? I'll fully admit my gear taste comes down to weird nerd shit, so I think that's kind of likely.
E House - Gun Gamers I agree with that but I also think it comes down to how we use our gear. We don't look at our gear like its gonna be used for a weekend event. We have to rely on our gear or it may cost us our life or the man next to us. I know I maintain my gear all the time taking everything apart and looking stuff over so I may be able to get away with having cheaper stuff because I maintain it vs. a young 16 year old who's gonna run jump slide and throw around all his gear then throw it I'm a closet when he gets home and not notice "hey I need to fix this it may break soon". Like my battle belt is like $20 off Amazon meanwhile one of my guys who had a $100 one broke his on our 3rd mission over there vs. Mine that's new. It comes down to maintenance in my opinion.

Check out Grey-Shop.ru for great modern Russian surplus gear. All the chest rigs and uniforms are high quality (even the reproduction plate carriers are good)
Condor gear isn't bad for 80-90% of all airsofters. Most people don't play 2 day milsim events so there really is no need to spend $200-$300 on a chest rig or a plate carrier if you are only going to play twice per month.
And, even if you do go to milsims, a condor chest rigg holds up easily. I went to last years Berget in Sweden, a 4 and a half day "milsim" (it's like a combination between a milsim and just a big game) and all my condor gear held up perfectly. And that stuff isn't even new, I've had it for years. Buckles and stitching seems to be pretty good quality.
