- Hi friends! I am here again! This time I am sharing how I DIY long layered haircut which i've been doing on myself eversince my gray hair transition and esp now that almost all salons in my area are closed due to lockdown. It's my personal preference to cut my own hair and I am comfortable and happy with it even if it is not really perfect.Saves me money and a trip in going to the salons.

This is how I always ask the hairdresser to cut my hair and I can never seem to get it, either you can't really see the layers or I end up with a mullet! I gave this a go this morning half asleep and it turned out amazing! Just what I wanted :)
Same. They just take all my length and give me a mullet.
Hey this works! I got brave because I'm job hunting and can't see the hairdresser until I get a paycheck. I'm way overdue...this worked for getting those dead ends off - I just cut about 1 1/2" off the bottom and 1" off the other layers. Looks healthy now. Thanks!

I am a hairdresser and I too cut my own hair. The reason is most stylists do not listen to their clients. That's why so many of us do it our self
Aw! Thank you for not criticizing my diy haircut. I did this video on the very height of covid, salons were closed. But I have one experience in a salon where the haitdresser all throughout while she was cutting my hair, she had me face against the mirror! She turned the chair away from the mirror so I couldn’t see what she was doing. Is that right? I couldn’t complain so I just let her be. I ended up going to another salon to fix the haircut, so i paid again.😊 You are so nice and kind. Thank you again. Mwahugs!❤️

I have been needing a haircut since last December 2021 and I watched your video then I cut my hair just how you said to step by step and my hair turned out really nice. I never cut hair before especially my own and this video was amazing. I will forever cut my own hair now. Yours is the BEST "cutting Long layers" You Tube video. It's WAY easier than some, but the results YOU GOT are FANTASTIC. I just did mine, (which is the same length as yours), but I was a little too timid about cutting enough off to layer it as well as you did. She is not doing it right & it is uneven. You cut it straight across & then point cut!!! She is not even point cutting it right & she didn't cut any guide lines so none of them match up!!!!

OK, just watched this and have been putting off going to get my hair cut for 2+ years because I always hate the end result. My hair's the same length as yours and it was getting rather flat due to the length so just gave it a shot. It literally took ten minutes and my hair turned out perfect. Thank You So Much!!
Just did this cut in my bathroom and I LOVE IT! Saved so much time and money versus going to the dresser and only just sort of being happy with my cut. I don't plan on going back! Thank you! PS, hubby loves it too!!!!!

I love this method! I found it a few years ago and it works so well. I don't like the shortest layer quite so short, so I only do the first 2 or 3 steps. This time I did do a face framing long bang, too, and just kind of blended it down at an angle into the shortest layer, and it actually turned out really well.

How did you do your face framing bang? I’m considering trying this way to cut dead ends off and don’t want to do a third layer either like you were saying but definitely want to just add some long bangs. Was there a type of technique you tried and were happy with for the long bangs?

Sleeping on a pillow w/ silk pillowcase case help prevent breakage and split ends. Cotton and fleece pillowcases, and flannel contributes to breakage and split ends. I found out the hard way, always waking up w/ tangled bed head. Silk pillowcase is a must, I made some from old silk dresses believe it or not. NO breakage, NO split ends. !!!! Yea !!!

By far this is the best long hair tutorial do it yourself!! I watched several of them and even tried a few which only wound up botching my hair. I like how you did multiple sections of ponytails and then cutting; most videos on UA-cam only do the one ponytail and then cut. I've been searching for something that would add layers all the way up rather than just having layers at the bottom of my hair. Great tutorial, and your hair looks fabulous! 😊

I'm so glad I found your video because my hair is exactly the same as yours - natural grey, same length, same texture, and I also style it the same way (no waves, just straight).
I also love that you do it on dry and not wet hair! I will do the same because my hair is naturally curly when it's wet and it would be very hard for me to cut it wet :)

I use to cut myself and last summer after quarantine went to hairdresser 💇♀️ he chopped all of it was half back long and fucked up everything. He just gave me and old style haircut and it was horrible 🤯😱 I’m still growing my hair out and am in search of a good DIY haircut that will give me the cut I want. I just have found the perfect technique 🙏👍❤️😍💕💕💕 thank you so much. 🙏 Also like you I have my natural hair ( silverlicious 💖) and I’m very happy with it. Yours is just perfect. Don’t colour it in pink and blue please natural colour is so fascinating !!!

For the third layer I would say at your temple instead of at your eyebrow. And I did get my license in 1995 and I am a professional that's the only thing I would change about the video you did a very good job, I'm impressed!!!

I just found your video and followed you exactly step by step today, hitting pause to not miss a step. My hair is probably same length as yours but wavy, maybe thicker. It took me longer to end cut.
