Honestly it is vital i do not get into pedals. Because i would completely fall into the rabbithole and have total gas relapsement. I have been building on playing rather than buying for some while and it was going rather well.
It's interesting, I have 3 of the same pedals on my board, the Korg Pitchblack, the MXR BEF, and the Spectra Comp (which I love btw). Your signal chain is really unique, I have the tuner first, followed by the Spectra Comp, which acts more like a buffer than a compressor. Nice vid!
Love your tone, but I do bar band dad rock, so It’s Keeley compressor into a Darkglass harmonic boost, a Greer dirty boost when needed, and a smidge of Hall of Fame chorusy reverb in the “room” setting at 15-2% at the most. The compressor and Harmonic boost already always on. The rest are as needed. Again, think Bob Seger’s back catalogue and anything you hear on the classic rock station. But if you make it to Raleigh, NC, let me know.. would love to see the show.
Ugh, your video just put me into crisis mode. I really wanna use a smaller pedalboard, but damn, I always seem to run into situations where “man, I wish I had a particular sound.”
Great pedalboard overview, definitely agree having tuner last in the chain is the move! Also never heard of the Multimod pedal, I got FS05 which is similar but I think a red modulation pedal would look more aesthetically pleasing on my board haha.
Awesome setup 😎🤘🏻🎸 I own 2 pedalboards for my bass(one is my main pedalboard, the other is my backup). On both of them since I play metal as well as rock, I have preamp pedals(for ampless recordings, gigs, and silent practice), modulation pedals, 2 different drive pedals, a noise gate, and a tuner.
@@ampthebassplayer I got a joyo tidal wave on my main pedalboard and I also got a nu-x Melvin lee Davis bass preamp pedal for my backup pedalboard. Both preamp pedals sound phenomenal. Especially with my effects. My 3rd choice for a preamp would definitely be a master effects super 800(which is based on a gk 800rb).
I'm partial to the Darkglass compressors. I have both the original Super Symmetry and the newer Hyper Luminal and they are excellent. I actually prefer the older one but for board real estate reasons I'm using the newer one because it's smaller and I use a fairly small board. I don't know if it's Darkglass's reputation for making gear primarily used by metal bassists or what, but their comps seems very overlooked.
I use both the Spectra Comp and Spectra Drive and I have a love hate relationship with both of them. Very interested to hear what you have to say about the Spectra Comp.
I’ve never used anything like the HX Stomp. Closest I’ve done is the Zoom B1x Four and it’s not even close to the same thing at all. I’d love to try one out but I’m not about to drop that much money on gear I don’t need lol! Thanks for watching!
Great pedalboard overview, thanks for sharing. I have a DI on my board thinking of the Tech 21 SansAmp Character VT Bass DI or the Ampeg SGT-DI,What do you think of those two di pedals? Do you have experience with one of the two?
Obviously a subjective opinion, but I think his tone is too honky and thin... That said, I do think that an Amp is all you need, although compressor and drive could be needed
My board is dialed in primarily for live use, and if you watch my video on the Armitage that I mention, you can hear what it sounds like in context. I think you’ll find that it fits pretty nicely in the mix.
I played a show about a year ago with Matt Freeman of Rancid's side project "Charger" and he too uses the Pork and Pickle pedal so if it's good enough for him and you, than I must purchase one myself! EDIT: Actually I might save up for the new Sansamp Xb Driver instead. It'll take the place of two or three pedals on my board lol
Appreciate you choosing the VT Bass and all the kind words 👍
Your single pedalboard has more pedals than my whole collection
Sounds like you need to buy some more pedals.
@@ampthebassplayer sure does

Wasnt sure if I wanted to watch another pedal board video when I clicked on this.
Heard the first tone and you got me...

I love the spectracomp! hugely underrated and can be dialed in just right without having a complicated interface. I use it on synths all the time too

Naw, ain't no way you put this video together and shove a your mom joke at the end lmao
I do what I want.

Instead of a knife to cut the plates off, try a dental floss. It won't risk damage a should let you get right under the sticky pad.

I've never tried their comps, but you have me interested!
I use more pedals on bass than guitar haha, preamp overdrive/eq, fuzz, delay, chorus, probably will add a comp eventually
Another Serek!! I'm jelly
How the hell did she give you her number.... pffttt
Them size queen guitar players 🤣🤣
Getting into pedals is a great way to go broke chasing tone. I might buy the Multimod.
That's a pedal that won't make you go broke for sure!
Next time you visit my mom, come by so we can jam for a bit lol
Sounds like a plan!

tbh the octave and pickle sounds dreadful
Questionable signal chain all around. These choices could sound much better changing some things around.
Nice vid thanks!! Nowadays we see many bassists using or promoting the hx stomp, have you ever tried it? Any opinion on it?

I’ve never tried the SGT-DI, but it sounds great from the demos I’ve heard. It’s quite a lot more expensive though.
Yes it is. was hoping to find a vid that shows both. do you know if the tech 21 you have sounds the same as the tech 21 vt bass di?
@@ampthebassplayer
@joost5942 That I’m not sure of either. I’ve heard some people say they sound different, but they are allegedly built the same so it’s hard to say.
Thanks wil have a look at it.
That Tech21 VT is killer! It has such a huge range of tones, will never see getting rid of mine
Hell yeah!
I hate pedals on bass, Jaco only used wood!!!! (Hoping you get stronger man, love your videos!)

Jaco used chorus, drive, looper, ...
So you just go in DI to the interface or soundboard? No amp correct?
Yep that’s right. There are some places where I bring an amp because I don’t like their monitors, but this board is designed to be used either way.
