  • When starting my career as a professional musician I got denied for quite a few gigs, because I didn't have the right equipment needed. But after being in the professional music industry for quite a few years now, I've learned exactly what is needed for most PRO level gigs.
    So today I wanted to share with you guys a list of 5 pieces of gear that will have you prepared for almost any call. Now I know that there may be some other things that you can take with you on the road, but in this video I'm wanting to showcase the gear that's essential for every bass player who travels or plays often.
    Huge thanks to Sweetwater for sponsoring todays video.

    Great video, the only thing I would add to the list would be a stand/bass stand. Surprisingly not all venues have them or they have very bad ones.

    Here's a thing that many bass players will need at some point,
    a DAW on a good laptop.
    Protools is pretty standard, but other platforms are popular.
    At some point, someone you're working for will want to send you files of a tune they're working on and need you to put your bass on it.
    Just a matter of time.
    Appreciate you as always Travis. ✌

    The most important 2 items in this video:
    1. Bass DI
    2. Most importantly, IN EAR MONITORS
    A QUALITY bass DI is the best way to get YOUR sound out of a rig easily.
    When you have a good set of in ears you can truly hear what is going on in your mix. it's worth it.

    Fully support the DI, honestly it's been the biggest game changer in my rig. I picked up a Darkglass B7K Ultra v2 a few years back, and have it set emulating an Orange cab and it's fantastic.

    The only thing I would add is some form of compact tool. I have the one by Music Nomad (forever stored in my Mono case 😉) and it has saved me on several occasions!!

    Travis - technical point.. the GLXD16+ is dual band 2.4G (not 2.8 as shown at 2:24) and 5.8G. Yes, it matters because 2.4G is extremely cluttered in most venues. That it lets you chose either band or auto-select is the best part!

    • @edburdo
      @edburdo 5 місяців тому +1

      That's the main reason I don't like the X5 UV wireless IEM piece. It's only 2.4 ghz. We looked into them for church, and it was just too cluttered.

    I’m a fan of the SansAmp! I used to bring my Fender Rumble Stage 800 to church to play through, but after I got a SansAmp, I just plug that into the PA and an old Fender 100 Watt amp that is my church’s house amp. The SansAmp makes everything sound better, to include my Fender Rumble 200.

    Great vid... I'm fully wireless on IEM/Bass (UHF rack systems), use a great gigbag,, pedalboard Tube and preamp DI, and really good cables... I agree with everything in the vid, and own everything you recommend having, but the only thing that I actually own that you mentioned is the Mono gigbag... haha.

    For hard cases, I always go SKB. From personal experience I would say that they have the best warranty I have encountered (for life) and they should cost about the same as the Mono cases.

    Hello Travis, I hope all is well with you and your family! I am 61 years old, and I’ve never owned a base… However, I am thinking about purchasing a used Jackson JS3 for under $250 (usd), or should I spend the money on a Sire V3 (new) instead of used JS3? I will upgrade to a better bass after I’ve progressed a bit. Thank you for your time and I enjoy your content!

    I had the Mono and a Reunion Blues gig bag. You should check out the RB bag. The only perk that Mono had over the RB is top loading. Much easier getting the bass and putting it up. As far as protection, RB all the way.

    I've been looking at wireless in-ear monitors recently and saw the Phenyx, but the advertised Frequency Response for the PTM-10 is 60Hz to 16kHz, which seems like it wouldn't work for bass (especially drop tunings or 5-string). But it sounds like your experience is different?

  • @mhgreen
    @mhgreen 5 місяців тому +2

    All great recommendations! I'm constantly on the fence about going wireless or not, the Shure GLXD looks intriguing. I would like to put a plug in for Rattlesnake Cables, if want great cables, I think these are the best.

    • @cberger
      @cberger 5 місяців тому

      Wireless is great but I highly recommend avoiding the 2.4/5ghz band that the GLXD operates within. The audio on those mics are great but so many other things operate in that same frequency band. Both the band I'm in and the church I attend have ditched anything in those bands to move into the 450-590mhz world. So much less interference. The GLXD product is so great for so many reasons but I cannot continue using products in that band for the progressively worse interference issues.

    For the past almost 20 years i have never been asked if i had a wireless system for my bass, i have been instructed on many many occasions to NOT use a wireless system exactly for the reason that there are already a lot of wireless systems running in the venues, every thing fron the bands in ears to the lead mic to security's communication to the camera system or the crew operating the cameras and everything else, i have never needed a wireless system for my Basses and I've played everything from small local bars to some of the biggest festivals, the rest of the items in the video i agre on but you dont need a wireless system for your bass unless you are one of those people that just need to do a lap around the stage every song but unless your playing with your own band or you're the main ticket you're not doing that
