Same thing happened in my game
I actually grew up playing god of war, as a teenager playing the originals as they released, and I remember in those days I had a strong and visceral connection to Kratos as I had also experienced a lot of betrayal and was obsessed with getting back at everyone and everything all the time everytime, and when I played 2018 I mirrored a lot of Kratos' development of deep regret and eventual acceptance that we will always be monsters. Even though one's nature can be monstrous, our choices do not have to be
I feel like as a teenager I would deeeefinitely relate to Kratos in those earlier games 🔥
So cool to see the backstory of Toto writing one of their greatest hits in Vanaheim.
One thing I love about this game is that even when you're doing side quests, there is still plenty of banter between Kratos and his crew (just like gow 2018). Also, Kratos busting his ass for a mysterious orb he thinks is serious/suspicious, only to find out that it was a squeaky dog toy and subsequently have freya/mimir roast him for it is hilarious.
I want to say one thing Kali, I saw many GOW playthroughs on youtube but yours is the best. You play this game so thoroughly. You read every text, you listen every dialogues and you convey ur thoughts, even u read the poems as well. I am really enjoying it. When I played this game I missed so many things. Thank u Kali.

Someone probably already told you this, but Freya has new armour too… they’re all just cosmetic changes only, but this one is sort of symbolic of realisation upon getting the sword from the stone.
Best GOW playthrough by far. Also because you started by playing the old games first all the way to here and you pay attention to everytihng, its crazy, half the stuff youre doing i completely missed when i played lol. I get your frustration with freya. People saying you were too harsh on her, yes and also no cus like u said and i remeber that too, you stuck up for her in the last game and aknowledged her side back then., in the last episode and in this epiisode as well but at the same it, Freya had a lot of faults as well that u rightfully called out. Cant wait foryou to experience the rest of this masterpiece!
And Im definetly gonna stay for all the future games you gonna play.

Kratos and Atreus bond grows stronger. You can see Kratos is a loving father even though he can be tough on him in certain situations. Atreus can be a stubborn teenager at times, and has much to learn. But overall, he’s a good kid

Awesome episode! Freya was just a puppet for Odin. I did include my time with Freya more than Atreus in Ragnarok, with more of her backstory. We definitely need to request you play a Resident Evil game since we know how you love jump scares lol kidding (or am I). Looking for Hellblade and the next Ragnarok episode! This realm is huge. I was lost too when i was exploring Vanaheim.
It’s already been covered, but the arc of Freya is quite good, if a bit rushed. I’ll echo the sentiment that it would have been nice to see her evolve to being less self centred. So it’s like they did a speed run of what Kratos did in three games only in two for her character development, well, more like 1.5 games. But it’s still some heavy emotional stuff with great acting and great writing. It’s clear they had bigger plans that got truncated. However there is some good news, maybe, I hear rumours they’re producing a tv series based off of these games, so maybe we’ll see more of this character arc more fleshed out. Hopefully it follows the trend great adaptations like that of The Last of Us and the recent Fallout series. I hear that the actor behind Kratos, Christopher Judge is very keen on playing Kratos for the series.
Speaking of adaptations, there’s a great audio book novelisation of the first game told by the actor who plays Mimir, I wholly recommend it, it’s great!

Not sure if you're big on actors, but Freyr's VA is Brett Dalton, who played Ward in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. He was also in the Until Dawn game.
Freya joins the squad! Remember when you said at the start about how they referred to companions in the menu? Freya is a great addition to the team, and she became my favourite to have alongside me during missions because of her abilities.
More sidequests heck yeah! One of the many games where every playthrough I HAVE to do them all all over again lol.
1:54:46 in my first playthrough I also missed/ignored the bit where the game tells you that firing multiple sigil arrows in the same spot makes them grow larger, haha!
Kratos' line to Freya of "It is difficult to seek forgiveness when you feel unworthy" just hits so incredibly hard and is something I would think about a lot after I heard it the first time. The importance of having to resolve your own internal struggles before trying to (or even being able to) mend a relationship with those around you
Also, regarding your intro and some of the comments it seems you got regarding Freya.. as you said, an unfortunate part of the internet, and many people's inability to put themselves in your shoes to understand why you feel the way you do. So I wanted to share that your unapologetic reactions and thoughts on characters and events as you play has always been one of the very special parts of your playthroughs. Whether it's been certain characters in Detroit, or even Kratos himself in the early games as you said, it's always been great to hear, through your transparency, what you really think and feel in that very moment, and then follow your own character arc as you play further. So keep doing you! And I know you know that too, but some extra positive reassurance can go a long way 💛

The evolution arc of Freya after about 15 hours of gameplay: “KRATOS!... I’m so angrry and I’llallwaysbe… but now I suppose you can use my sigils to break the vines, solve puzzles and grab your precious loot”.

Not going to spoil anything, but as much as i love this game, this is one of the few reasons why i feel like we missed a whole game worth of story between the 2018 game and Ragnarok.

Indeed, there are definitely MORE side quests in this game compared to the previous one. However, if you’re into that then more power to ya m’lady.
I used the axe pommel you got in the Cure For The Dead favor even through NG+. On most enemies, you can just follow up a regular strike (or any stun/stagger moment) by going into the Serpent's Snare animation while they're stunned, getting health bursts every time you do it (and stunning/bouncing the enemies you throw them at). Also, once the axe is fully upgraded it fits its aesthetic perfectly, lol.
I don't know if you knew this already, but you can block ancients beam attacks. It's easier instead of dodging or rolling.

You can actually open that gate in alfheim now that you have an enchantment on your chisel.

1:31:55 The trouble with that is that it can be said about either side in most conflicts depending on ones perspective and who you are ideologically/religiously. The most brutal wars and conflicts are the ones where both sides get to say that "something needs to happen" and feel like they are in the right. There is no real end to those kind of conflicts, as we continue to see IRL.
This game is phenomenal but why they had the characters explain absolutely every puzzle to you all the time is beyond me.

MY guess is those "Last words" were Freyr calling his sister out for actually loving Odin in spite of what he'd done before that along with him being drunk like Brok said earlier...Those were probably more venomous than anything in Vanaheim even before the whole fire thing
that's what I'm thinking too... the marriage started off full of love and commitment but Odin began to show his true colors as soon as he got Freya right where he wanted her.. without her family, heritage and followers. so sad and disturbing
Kali playing on easy mode figuring out she can make the hex spots larger. The game never explicitly tells you this and most people struggle the entire game using 3 individual hex shots to solve the puzzles. Congrats on figuring out the intended way to solve the puzzles and not having to struggle. (I am still in pain from not learning this till like 95% done the game)
Hard to spot, but it actually did say 'Place Sigils on river objects and brambles. They are larger and brighter when connected.' I think many people miss the 'larger' part. Check and pause at 16:04

So the story of Hrimthurs building the wall is a lot crazier in the actual myths and it involves Loki. Hrimthurs disguised himself as human and went up to the gods and made a bet with them that he could complete the wall on one winter, if he won he would win the sun and moon as well as Freya as his wife. Freya wasn’t entirely keen on this wager as you can imagine, neither were the rest of the gods. What they didn’t know was this human making the bet was a giant in disguise. He also had a magical horse they could aide him, it looked like he was going to win the bet, so they had to come up with a way of beating him. Again, Freya was most unhappy, not only losing their prized sun and moon, but having yo marry Hrimthurs if he succeeded.
However, Loki being Loki, the other gods turned to him to pull of some means of deception. Loki came up with a plan, just as Hrimthurs was about to finish. Loki would distract the magical horse, how you ask. Loki would transform himself into a mare no stallion could resist. Angry, and now separated from his horse, he grew hot with anger and threatened to destroy the wall he build, and in doing so he lost his control and his disguise. The gods were furious now, realising he was a giant in the end. Thor took out his hammer and killed him on the spot.
Fast forward a while and the pairing of Loki as the mare and the magical was born a 8 legged colt. Which was then given to Odin as a mount for him to ride.
Ah. Sleipnir, the name of the 8 legged horse.

I don't know if I'm completely correct ,but I think that there are some strange looking plants in vanahein that give you materials to craft many things, I think is dark brown with yellow lines and glows a little ,destroy every plant you see in the game

Freya has been through allot. I wouldn’t even put it past Odin to be reason why her people grew to hate her so much, by feeding them lies after he trapped her in Midgard. Maybe that’s why Freyr thought she died and mourned her. In her own words Odin “took her home and scattered her people to winds.” In every realm you venture, the landscapes echo with destruction caused by Odin.
She gave up quiet allot, she essentially gave up her freedom and liberty in marriage to Odin, to stave the slaughter of her people. She gave up her home as well. And in the end the one thing she got from that marriage (her son), as terrible as it was. She chose selfishness in an effort to not lose him. Only for fate to be so unjust to her. I’d like to say I came to understand freya here completely. But she she still has things she suggest that I did not think she had the were with all to do.
I do like how Brok describes them as unemployed gods lol. I also like how Kratos through this entire ordeal hasn’t judged her. He’s sympathetic towards her circumstances and doesn’t tress pass and trample on these sentimental moments for her. I secretly think Kratos has yet to reconciled with himself. I think he feels he has no place judge anyone for his sins are greater than theirs.
23:31 Everyone of Freyr's companions in the background listening to the fight, but also trying to act like they're not listening to the fight. Actually, I'll give credit to Birgir (the Traveler) because he saw the fight coming and actually did get up to walk away from it.
Freya has made a lot of mistakes, but her life is such a tragedy. She basically lost everything because of Odin: her home, her family, her friends, her reputation, her dignity and even her sanity.

A good story has complex characters. Characters that make you feel the whole range of emotion is a mark of good writing. Freya is a great example. You feel her pain but also can be critical of her attitude toward Kratos and Atreus. And she shows awesome character growth as she learns to let go. So I am not critical of you for feeling the way you did toward her. It's very human.

Hi kaliwali! Stay awesome! IMHO there’s something about tyr I don’t like, idk what 🤔 but Sindri and brok are my favorite. I recommend reading the GoW book, it’s between GoW 3 and 2018. You’ll understand what happened to kratos in that time frame

There is a ton of reasons that usually keeps me from commenting on videos that I'm watching, and my last comment was definitely an example of that. I can often forget when watching someone play games or even watched shows and movies that I've watched or played before, that my opinion is sometimes not just purely mines and is sometimes a combination of different things.
I've played this game thoroughly at least three times, and I've watched multiple playthroughs from different content creators, who have all caught different things and has helped me think differently about certain characters and decisions. I think that even if I feel strongly about some of the things I have said, it is wrong to ridicule you for your first thoughts when you're playing through the game. It is unfair for me and other commenters who are viewing you play this for the first time to expect your opinion to be a certain way. Hell, that goes for any creator. Even if we may not realize it ourselves, it still gives us no right to judge you and patronize you for not catching on to something on your first playthrough when they took us multiple videos and playthroughs to catch it.
We can disagree on something, but to scrutinize you and bully you is wrong. Even if we think we're trying to help.
And for that I apologize. I hope that everyone else in the future reading my comment, can also learn from and recognize this.
I'm grateful that you took the time to read my comment before and I can only hope for the same grace now. I will continue to look forward to the rest of your experience in this game and any others to come!

They burned him and she did nothing, it's just another case of that feminist bull crap that no matter what happens to the man he's supposed to suck it up and still do XYZ. I'm sorry it's just that this scene always gets me riled up and I'm on Freyr's side... 😮💨 I need a drink. In any case I'm glad they made up even with as unrealistic and one-sided it was.

Although this is one of my favorite games there are 2 parts I dislike it, It's Vanaheim and playing as atreus. All the stupid plants and puzzles drive me insane!
I'm currently on New Game plus on the second hardest difficulty. And I never thought I'd hate playing as Atreus.
