    Thanks for this, have adjusted my coilovers a few times now. Recently went to 700 lb springs and needed to bring the front down and pulled this video up as a reminder. FWIW, the icon spanner wrench is garbage. I used a 3/8" "extended length" punch from harbor freight with a cheater bar on the end. Turned the coilovers pretty easily. I was taking off preload, rather than adding so adding might be a bit more challenging with the 700 lb springs. Spray the threads down liberally with PB blaster before you start.

    Just did this. Another good trick to add, is to spray the thread and top of the spring with some WD40 first. Difference is night and day.

    I finished my fronts yesterday, and called in and left a message for questions on performing this adjustment with the CDCV resi. Scott called me back and was extremely helpful. I now have front and rear complete, and at stock setup, with the 3" coilovers, I've got a fairly serious rake. Because of the trouble I encountered removing the old components out of the front I had a local 4x4 shop install the rears, and asked them to adjust the fronts for me. They insisted they would have to remove the coilover from the vehicle in order to do it. I said nevermind, I'll handle it. LOL

      I should note that I went with ICON for two reasons. I had it narrowed down to either ICON, which I've wanted for a long time, and OME BP-51, as I had the OME 3/2 and it lasted a long time. Also, both companies support my favorite overland UA-cam shows. Ultimately, I chose ICON for its support of Expedition Overland, and the adjuster system is more stable. I was too afraid that I would strip the adjuster rings on the BP-51's, even though it seemed pretty cool to have the separate adjustments. Thank you for a great quality product, and for your support of a quality, wholesome, adventurous Expedition Overland team!! Keep up the great work! (Oh, and only ICON looks this good with that Demello 3-hoop :-P )

    Just had my ICON stage 5 installed at 4WP. It just BARELY rubs a tiny part of the fender lining (18x9 wheel with a 285/65/18 Ridge Grappler, but nothing major by any means. And the ride quality...wow! It rides great!!!!!! ICON makes some top notch components!!!! EDIT 8.12.19. Installer only had 1 1/4" inches of exposed threads, that's why it was barely rubbing. Took it back and they adjusted the coil overs to have 2" of exposed threads. Now it doesn't rub a bit.

    If I have a stage 5 2-2.5” lift on my F150 and the collar is all the way at the top, does that mean I’m sitting at 2” and could only gain a half an inch by doing this? Would it ride poorly if I made this adjustment and maxed out the coilover?

  • @iconvehicledynamicstv
    @iconvehicledynamicstv  7 років тому

    Justin, there should be no problem adjusting the preload to obtain 3" of lift. You definitely do not want to add a spacer, as increasing the preload does not necessarily lead to negative ride quality. The amount of available 'droop' travel from your ride height will determine how the vehicle will perform, we recommend having AT LEAST 2" of available droop travel from your set ride height. Thanks!

      Wanted to piggyback this question... On a 2nd gen Tacoma I'm running the 2.5 resi with 650lbs springs running total chaos uppers. Issue is the ride is pretty harsh on trail... went with 600lbs and it got way too mushy. Is lovering the hight-thus also taking the preload off worth venturing to? Right now the spring is sitting about half on the tread length or about 2 to 2.5 inches threads showing on the top of the shock.

    Hi I'm interested in getting 2004-2015 Nissan Titan 0-3" Suspension System with the Dirt King Mid Travel Kit UCA NAD LCA. I'm just wondering how much of a lift will this actually give? like can i expect to be 3inches higher than stock? I'm also looking into getting bigger 34 inch wheels compared to stock.

    Turning the adjuster ring is suuuper difficult. Iike two hands and pulling pretty hard. And I'm seeing a few fine metal shavings coming out the bottom. I have new coilovers that were just put on a few days ago, and just driven around town a bit. Is this just because of some grit in the threads or is it really that hard to turn? Yes, I loosened the set screw :)

    This might be a silly question... but is there a way to tell if your truck is leaning other than just looking at it? I believe mine has a lean but it could be very minor not a big deal but I would like to hear thoughts or ideas? Thanks

    • @iconvehicledynamicstv
      @iconvehicledynamicstv  4 роки тому

      Yes, you can measure from the hub to the fender (as seen at :35 in the video) on both sides and then compare these measurements. If it's leaning then you can turn the adjustment collar to compensate for any inconsistencies.

    I have had my Icon stage 5 for 2ish years and love it. I just swapped it over to my 2016 4runner from my 2013 FJ. I want to adjust my coil overs accordingly, but the passenger side adjustment collar is stuck and will not budge and the Icon wrench is starting to strip out the holes, any advice would be so appreciated. i was trying to raise the front height on my 16 4Runner, but the reservoir line is in the way of making adjustments. is it possible to adjust the coilover without removing the reservoir? if not, is it okay to remove the line? do you have a video to show this procedure? is there any other precaution i should be aware of? thank you

    • @iconvehicledynamicstv
      @iconvehicledynamicstv  6 років тому

      Nic, while the reservoir hose may slightly cover the preload adjustment collar, it is definitely possible to make adjustments without removing anything. We DO NOT recommend trying to loosen or remove the reservoir as the coilovers are charged (at high PSI) with nitrogen, tampering with the reservoir and/or hose fittings may result in serious injury! If you are unsure of how to perform an adjustment, please contact a professional mechanic or service technician at an authorized ICON dealer. Thank you!

    So if we set pre-load to absolute minimum (just enough to keep the spring from moving at full extension) will that result in the best ride quality? Or is it good to shoot for 50/50 bump/droop?

    • @iconvehicledynamicstv
      @iconvehicledynamicstv  3 роки тому +1

      Every vehicle and setup is different so it's really hard to provide an accurate answer without seeing the vehicle firsthand. Generally speaking, 60/40 bump/droop is a good ratio to shoot for, although shock valving, spring rates, drivetrain configurations, and vehicle weight will all come into play when striving for that perfect setup.

      @VBmike2100 3 роки тому

      @@iconvehicledynamicstv thank you. I see a lot of suspension reviews with very strong opinions but most don’t discuss what they set for pre-load. Many don’t even discuss other mods that affect handling and ride quality 🙁

    Will increasing preload be detrimental to ride quality? I would think it would stiffen the suspension.

    • @iconvehicledynamicstv
      @iconvehicledynamicstv  6 років тому

      Increasing the preload WILL change the way the vehicle rides at the extremes of adjustment, and this is why we recommend taking measurements to be sure you have enough droop travel available for optimum ride quality. We list the recommended amount of droop travel in the product instructions for each application.

    • @jhemp00
      @jhemp00 6 років тому

      Ok. For example I just installed Stage 2 on my 2012 4runner trail with KDSS and I increased the preload to reduce rake, or get the vehicle a little more level. I did this solely for aesthetic reasons and my droop is now 2.5in. Would I get better ride quality if returned the preload to your factory settings thus giving me more droop? Thanks for replying!
