They were all super different with aspects I appreciated. The WAVs sounded way different than the compressed UA-cam versions. Simon's mix had fire width, and I liked the bassline in section 2, but the kick was clipping too hard and felt over-limited. Dawson had a clean vocal approach; the dubs were too loud, but the lead was fire, with a pro-level crispness on the top end. We dropped 'Time's Gone' with a different mix we worked hard on, but now a Grammy-winning mixer wants to redo it for us. Hopefully, his mix will be the one, and we'll redrop it soon
I honestly preferred Simons mix to the expert, but I do recognize that it was the most clean sounding. I think I would've mixed the song very similar to how Simon did.
Agree! I found his mix better. But I still think #3 won this one because his style seems to be much more well suited for this genre (much more high ends). I think Simon would have a better shot if the track was Hip-Hop & Rnb (Since, his mixing are bass heavy). Otherwise, both were good.
tbh i sorta liked simons the best. Maybe im just a slut for bass but I think it sounded the hardest. Especially on that ending part with the distorted lead
I think he had the best bass, but the last one had better everything else. I didn't mind Simon's kick, but I like oversaturated kicks a lot with things like hyperpop and my own music.
I think a mix of Simon’s and the expert would be perfect in my opinion (Simon’s being too aggressive and the expert’s being too clean) other than the kicks I liked Simon’s mixing more overall
Very interesting that you can actually tell each level is what it is. I have no like 0 ear training or even context about judging music and it was cool to see the differences. The reactions to the kick/bass(?) was jokes
You release this at the perfect time! I'm going to be releasing one of my best songs to date and with the tips you provided It's going to make my master much better.
You might be a young dude but you and Navie D inspired me to stop wanting to do music and get to work. You are a good guy with a great personality and I wish you all the best as you progress.
30min is crazy, id waste a third just listening to the song 3 times or so to get the vibe, do it again with more time and a sloppy fully unmixed song, maybe add some traps like EQing some tracks to have really resonant freqs and such... that would be fun af to watch.
I wish he would've given the engineers an hour to mix as opposed to 30 minutes. There was still a massive difference between the 3, but if they would've had an hour then it would've shown the difference in skill between the 3 even more immensely.
Akin to what the expert mixing engineer said, I add to that "A good master can't fix a bad mix, A good mix can't fix a bad production." So if the producer/singer-songwriter gives you crap, you as a mixing engineer can only do your best to sound it your way, but that doesn't change the fact that the track is still crap. Bottom line: Production is your base, your foundation in making good music. So, sing the best verse, play your best lick, try to be on time, retake a thousand times, hit the drums with groove and feel, derail and don't limit yourself with what's with the norm. Great music is often made by breaking the rules. FLOW, DON'T FORCE.
Simon's mix was the best because he controlled dynamics a lot better. the 3rd engineer spent the most time on levelling and mixing but it ended up sounding a little more dull and soft, meanwhile simon's mix sounded wide and full and the drums hit (because of the clipping, which I actually quite liked.)
if you do this again, you should allow a bit more time. In my opinion, the difference between the 3 tiers would be a lot more noticeable. A seasoned engineer can get a 70% the way there very quickly, but its that last 30% that really shows the value of running a mix through someone with experience. That 30% just comes with time.
Simon had the best one just ease up on the clipping. I used to blow out kicks too i like it but after watching people listen to stuff i made it's overwhelming and can translate really poorly to some speakers. Overall it was way more engaging although not as clean but that matters far less.
@@TheRealRoni16 I didn't say your mix is not good. It's just not as loud as the other and it's nothing to be shamed about because Simon at times say that being louder doesn't always means better..
@Kxngfroz_e nah don't worry i didnt think u said i was bad, i just wanted to understand ur advice so i can learn. Thank u for telling me i appreciate it, will bear the volume in mind!
@@TheRealRoni16I'm making music on my phone for 3-4 years now My advice is Make the song louder and make every sound u made is hearable Like panning or wide , and make it crisp . So u can get the listeners attention to every single part
Creatively Simons was good. But Dawson def mixed it much better to fit its song genre. Vocals were inside the pocket and every word was clearly understood. Maybe if Simons instrumental mix coincided with Dawsons Vocal mix, it would be a good song to blast in your car while cruising with the windows down.
Hi Simon, would you be able to make some cookup- style videos again? (similar to the style of the RTP series of yours) I’d much rather enjoy seeing your beatmaking process rather than these challange-videos or vs.-videos. Greetings.
Simon was more creative but that is not what qualifies a mastering engineer. I have to agree with the expert, the kick and low end were overwhelming the vocals and melodic elements. Mixing wise Simons creativity was best and the experts knowledge of the mastering and leveling would likely make for the cleanest and most interesting finished product.
Simon went too hard to this...the mix was such good but I really don't prefer clipping kicks...i therefore think the Professional really did a great job in making this mix super clean and ready to listen. i think with some little more time, his mix would be ready for spotify
Hopefully we can get a tutorial for sound selection because no matter wat sound i choose it still doesn't sound right or am i the only one facing that problem? before mixing
Hey what genre is this. It feels like I've been living under a rock for years. Can anyone tell me what genre it is, I want to start making this.😢 I think I should even document my whole journey
Engineer here. Third mix is insanely close to how I would do it. That being said, Simon's mix to me sounded much much better for that specific song!
I agree! Felt a lot more crisp which contrasted nicely with the song
louder = sounds better
@@ertybeats there's an obvious difference in the tonal balance, dynamics, and overall character of these 2 mixes. it's not just loudness.
I’m doing edm so Simon’s way would be my go to approach. But to me, this song sounds better with the professional engineer.
@@tubeo94 maybe it's just that you're used to hearing mixes in that style and the pro engineer's mix was a unique approach to you. thanks for sharing.
Mix 3 Low end controlled really well. Mix 2 is creative. Combination of both would have been sick.
Totally agree
ayyy this video came out sick! Thank you for using my song for the challenge, it was dope hearing the different mix decisions you guys made😄
Are you swedish dude? 🙌🏻
which one do you prefer?

“This already sounds mixed to me” every producer trying to mix theyr songs 😭
Expert and "mid" obviously brought their experience to the table but rookie did a great job. 👏👏
Thank you 🙏🏼
tbh i sorta liked simons the best. Maybe im just a slut for bass but I think it sounded the hardest. Especially on that ending part with the distorted lead
Same, the distorted lead is just perfect
I think he does make the instrumental the most important because he has the habit of doing it like this.

I see, I like your music.
Nah the drums on the final mix were kinda buried in the mix, I think he could’ve dialed back the clipping a little bit but it was definitely punchier
I think a mix of Simon’s and the expert would be perfect in my opinion (Simon’s being too aggressive and the expert’s being too clean) other than the kicks I liked Simon’s mixing more overall
My thoughts exactly
Exactly
4:00 bro is really an expert
Pro-engineer did a good job, but it definetely lacked some of the low-end after Simon's mix lol
Haven’t watched it yet but I’m callin it’s gonna be a banger
Defo a banger cos I'm in it 🔥😎
Awesome video. Definitely need to get better at mixing myself. Excellent work everyone.
Wake up Simon Servida POSTED! ❤🔥

it would have been cool to se the artist blindly rank them form noob to expert cause it seems like he is just agreeing with their credibility
mixing on monitors is devious

The beginner was just happy to be there 😂
Yep 😂
Mixing is also an art form on its own
Simon you produced another banger in “Butata”!
Simon got the best version for me coz it just hits more
Mix 3 was sooo clean but i loved the creativity of mix 2. You add some of the parts/creativity to mix 3 it will be fire
youve come at the right time bro
the pro is what i strive to become in mixing especially that low end cus man id be like simon most of the time making that low end knock
i like how Simon mix sounds, but maybe clipping should be more deeper on my opinion
more video like this please i love it
Banger video
@tzxm16351 Any video that has me is a banger video 😏
Can you make a video on how to mix and master beats? I'm so confused because everyone has their own way, but I trust your methods.
