My dad was a Ford man and he had a 1972 LTD four-door in the same color. It had the 400 engine and the luxury high-backed seats. We went on vacation in it a couple of times, it was a cream puff!
A local farmer had one of those Agco Allis tractors and a bunch of Deutz tractors. The air cooled diesels have always kind of fascinated me. Nice to have two options for your big horse.
I enjoyed the series. My ex brother in law had an uncle who found a really nice Dodge Cornet two door hard top 383 in a guys yard down in Alabama. $400 bucks later he drove it back to Michigan. This was probably twenty five years ago. Other than being a little sunburn like that nice Galaxy, it was in perfect condition.
I enjoyed this video very much. You know how I like Olivers and Whites. And I love hearing the stories behind them. Oliver tractors become like members of the family. I wouldn't part with any of my tractors. I don't have any of the series 55 tractors, but wouldn't mind having one. What's next on the implement tour?
Your Argo Allis with the air cool engine is the same engine that Ditch Witch put in some of their trenchers “ I believe “ If it is , It is a strong dependable engine wide open 8 hrs a day 95 degree weather , it seems the hotter the better . But yes you need to wash them off off . For what it worth I can relate.
I have a dire love for the 55 series. Maybe it's a condition I don't know😂 They just seem so slick, and the 310 sounds so beautiful. I'd love to have a 16 and 1755. Not sure if an 18 would fit for us seeing as we already have a cummins powered 1955. I know the comfort jump between an early white cab(on out 19) and a 100 series cab is almost night and day, I van only image the jump between the 4-180 and the agco. Loved the lineup!
I know Oliver purists tend to shun the era of White ownership but I love the 55s and field bosses. White may have been stupid financially but the tractors themselves, not so much (Plus I’m biased lol. I spent plenty of hours as a kid with my great uncle and cousins in a 2-105)

Great video as usal. Don't be too down on that Fiat. The clutch gave them a bad rap for awhile because people didn't understand the opperation. Parts got scarce in the 90's for em. Now that Fiat owns half the tractor market if you have Fiat part #s you can have a NH or CNH dealer key in the part # and it may stiil come up. Fiats are the get buy tractor all over the third world. Along with Oliver tractors I run Hesston/Fiat 4wd tractors . From the 80's and 90's. White imported to Canada only a Fiat mode 700 . I hope to come across one eventually as they have the same sheet metal as the Hesston/Fiats and it would be an interesting bridge in my collection.
Really enjoyed this video Ross! Regarding your 55 Series collection, are you looking to add the Fiat 55's. On the high end, I assume you'd want the 22, but what about the 26?
Of course, I’d love to have them all, but to start with I at least want the Charles City built ones so 1555 to 2255. But if a good deal comes along on something else I won’t pass it up lol
Speaking of tractors, Is that oliver combine a 545 as that has the long semi auger? Now that we are on the topic of combines, i found an oliver 542 in the local classifieds. So i think i am going to go broke again. Last ran 2 years ago, looks like it spent all its life in a shed. Has a pickup head but i have put those back to strait cut before. Two hour drive from here, but, the back axel will fit on my uncles car hauler and i think the front tires will to beacuse i know my 431's front tires will fit on it. So i am not worried about bringing it home, although, i have driven one of those from further away from there home. lets hope i can get all my ducks in a row and go get it. i plan on calling him on it tomorrow, fingers crossed i get it.

Almost every combine that is green and oliver around here is 5542, as a matter of fact, i have only seen three different ones than 5542, a 430 that the guy would not sell me, a 431 that i did buy, and a 542 that i am going to try buy. Seams like every farm has an oliver or white or chockshutt 5542 in everyone shed or wead row. just the outher day there was a guy tring to sell me a couple, the deal was 2 5542s one with a cab one open staiton, 3 headers, 2 pickup 1 strait cut. he wanted 700$ for all of it. I said no as, around here, i could get 3 for that price beacuse they are so common. Now with that being said the three smaller, older models are a little harder to stumble on. But i think that is because The local oliver dealer opened in 1970.

I got a 7520 jd.it was in the junk yard.the we’re going to cut it up.so i as ray what he want for it. He said he take 5.000. So I walk a way so a year went by . I went back it was still so I went to talk to ray. His son want 8.000 .so I went out just to look at it. So ray pull up as I see u like love for tractor.ray new m dad. He said he take 5.000. I said write it up. His son got mad.ray had hart attack.I went to see my brother and said I bough it. When we started to rebuild . Nothing was good.trans was junk . Engine was junk.today it completely. Ray brother are dead. Every time I kook at that I think about them got bles them . O my for got my Oliver man in town frank willis dead . Yes yes yes, I'm not a fan either but they sell for a lot cheaper and they do the job just like the diesel, 1655 diesel uses 5 gallons per hour, gas uses 6.5 gallons per hour, but according to Nebraska test, they make the same power at the same rpms, we mostly use tractors to plow snow in the winter, but a pickup truck still seems to work better, it's warmer and they always start
Dean Barker told me Oliver gave some 1555 engines to local vocational schools because the weren't selling any in that fuel type. If memory serves, they were gas engines.
The 9650's appear to have the wider hood like the 6195 tractors perhaps the air cooled engine needed more room. Ive been wrong many times before though.

back in l think 1967 about my neighbor bought a 1355 OLIVER and l was friends with their oldest boy. they had a dairy farm and l would help chore. that tractor ran every day to feed silage it had a loader. it fed the cattle every day and all so ground all the cattle feed too. it was the firsttractor on the farm to have 3pt too so in the spring it did some chiseling too. l dont know the year maybe it was 68 or 69 cant remember. very dependable tractor!!! we also restored an OLIVER 70 tractor about the same time!! before tractor restoration got started. l will be watchin!! l think that was the only 1355 sold in our neighborhood.
My 1650 has the Mallory distributor also. Points kept burning up in it .so I put a pertronics electronic ignition in years ago. Haven't had a problem with it since.
I know the 1855 problems and I'm hesitant but I love them 310 Waukesha Turbo best sound in the world but I'm having one delivered next Monday or Tuesday from Indiana can't wait to Bush Hog 15-acre field every week with love your videos on your tractors I'm almost done rebuilding the engine in an 88 gas clean tractor engine was shock I'm down to just putting the head on now ready to get it out him Boogie with it too

Yes it’s a 545 with a V-8 engine. It also has the grain tank extension and a long auger.

Ohhhh you have a hard to find upside down step on your 4-180
Other than fuel fenders and exhaust stack it’s pretty well how I got it.
That step in front of the front wheel is usually missing. Was used on some wheatland 55's as well for side access. I have tried to find a few to use.

1955 has the extendable base weight.
I put this suitcase bracket on it. It had the regular style base and slabs. I know of one 1855 in this area that sold new with suitcase weights.
Most of the suitcase bases did not have the holes for the extentions.
Original extensions are unobtainium

Not a fan of gas power tractor .
They have their place. They’re really good if you’re going to leave them sit for long periods of time. They seem to handle it better than the diesels.

I almost went that route but I think I’m going to switch to the new style distributor they started making so I can finally have my tach working again.
Question does the 1655 gas have more power than a 1655 diesel ? We have a 1650 gas and it's nick name is the go devil.
They’re supposed to be the same HP. That’s why they had different bore, to even them out.
