- The oldest Chinatown in America is located in San Francisco, California. In this video I take you on an epic Chinese food tour to try Dim Sum, egg tart, visit the fortune cookie factory and try some honey walnut shrimp!
My Film Making Kit► kit.com/davidsbeenhere
We started off the tour by walking up Grant (the main street in Chinatown) and their was a mini festival going on with kids dancing in dragon costumes. From there we walked to Great Eastern Restaurant, to try some of the best dim sum in Chinatown. They have over 83 dim sum items and they are famous because Obama ate here.
Next I walked across the street and stood in line at Golden Gate Bakery, this place is famous for its Danta (Egg Tart Pastry). It's ranked as one of the top places in American to eat this Cantonese dessert. It was so good!
From there I walked two streets away to the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, incase you didn't know the fortune cookie was invented in San Francisco's Chinatown. It's a small factory, you walk in see some workers making the cookies and you can buy some or even a giant one.
Lastly I walked over to Far East Cafe a restaurant serving Cantonese and Sichuan dishes for over 100 years! I came here to try the Honey Walnut Shrimp, it was so sticky and crunchy!

Davidsbeenhere Been there brother. Love your channel man
Have fun and Bon Provecho!
The skin is made out of tofu. We called that 'tofu skin'.
@@josephhui1986 Right, I was going to tell him that but you beat me to it. Thanks
Yes!! Happy to see you went to all the good places in my city.
The largest population of Chinese are in Taiwan followed by NYC. How can you tell tea is amazing while it is still blistering your mouth and scalding the taste buds? There is no bean curd inside a bean curd wrap. The wrap is made of bean curd into a noodle like consistency.. Sheeeeeeesh!
Very nicely done David. Your food review videos are addictive.
Great video David Bhai.
Your so nlessed David im happy you get to enjoy life
Great video! My favorite Dim Sum restaurant in San Francisco!
I’m a new subscriber to your channel and I’ve binged watched quite a few lol. I love your videos and this one was wonderful also. Hi from Australia 👋🏼
Wow amazing thank you! So many more videos to come!! Love you!!
Wow that dim sum place had so many items. Egg tarts are delicious, the food looked good 🙂
Chinese food is one of the most popular cuisines in the world. It is known for its diverse flavors, use of fresh ingredients, and emphasis on balance and harmony in each dish. From spicy Sichuan dishes to delicate Cantonese dim sum, Chinese cuisine offers a wide range of options for any palate. Additionally, many Chinese dishes have a long history and cultural significance, making them not only delicious but also rich in tradition. Whether enjoyed at a local restaurant or cooked at home, Chinese food is sure to satisfy
Far east cafe is the Best! ...ask for the fabulously wonderful Cathy ( Manager) she will make you the most amazing Chinese Mai Tai EVER! Enjoy!!
Great video. Im heading there today. I craving chinese food.
Hi David nice enjoy
Nice video david
The rice noodle rolls are definitely my favorite dim sum ^.^ and don’t get me started about egg custards 😍
That eyes flip tho 🙄 I like it 😂
Sam Woo's is great too. A smaller restaurant though and no dim sum
Sam Woo's is a place of pilgrimage. I like how you go through the kitchen to get into the restaurant. It is so surreal. Not sure what to make of that Feng Shui setting. In any case, Sam Woo's is a party place. Can't get enough of it.
Great video keep doing
The dragon show is so cool, man! We have a Chinatown here in Chicago, and it's one of my favorite places to visit. Love seeing all of the culture and artwork there. There are so many options on that first menu, it would probably take me forever to decide what I wanted! Looks like you made some awesome choices. The rice noodle roll looks and sounds outstanding, and so does the skin roll. I've never had egg custard, let alone in a tart, but I've heard lots of great things about it. I love fortune cookies, though, and I know I would lose my mind if I had that big one! My stomach literally started growling the moment I saw the honey walnut prawns. Haha, I think I need to go eat dinner! 😂 Great video as always, and I'm looking forward to the rest of your California adventure!
Walnuts and shrimps must be delicious.
Dim sum is the best in Chinatown for sure
Not even Amy Chen visited this shit hole
and here I am binge eating frozen dim sums. Actually these are delicious LOL. Anyway, I love your videos dude.
Wow, what a tour, some unique food especially honey prawns with walnuts, at least I never heard about this combination of prawn and dry fruit. Some of the Chinese dishes might contain almonds and peanuts.
Yea so random but they are famous for it!
Very nice
Thanks for sharing 🌻
Hello pretty how are you doing I hope you good 🌹?
Bean curd rolls are my absolute favorite!!!
1st ❤❤❤ I'm always starving watching your videos 😁😁😁
Armando Tarahumara oh really? Coming from u!!! Hahaha 👊👊👊
3:25 - That looks like Cheung Fun, a specialty of Guangdong province in China. I live in Dongguan and you can find this made out on the streets in the morning! So good!
I’m surprised they didn’t give you a season soy like they do in New York city Chinatown. Thanks for sharing
Your video is very nice
I like your videos
This is my childhood! ❤️
S.F Chinatown for me is such a comfortable place to be. I have been all over the Chinese speaking world. But the world of S.F Chinatown is like no other. It is like a whole different planet. I know the places you've been to in your video. I go there many times. I always have good conversations with the older generation. They have a brilliant sense of humor. I like when they get sarcastic. They are so hilarious. If you ever get to know anybody of the older generation, go to their favorite Dim Sum restaurant. The men are easy going. But, the grandmas pounce on the basket trolly that just came out of the kitchen. DON'T GET IN THEIR WAY. I have seen fights break out. Not too bad. But hilarious.
If you ever go to Dublin, California, go to the Willow Tree. There is a Shrimp and Walnut dish that is out of this world. I don't know what they do to the walnuts, they are not crunchy. They are fluffy and airy inside. The mix of the Shrimp and Airy walnuts are like you have gone to Heaven. I am not sure how they make the walnuts that way. I am still experimenting. Also, Fire Cracker soup. My favorite. I am still experimenting with the way they make the rice for the soup. If you haven't tried it, do so. You will fall in love with that soup.
We don't get fortune cookies at Chinese restaurants in NZ we get plate of fruit at the end of a meal.
I am Chinese live in central California and I go to SF few times a year...I eat and buy things that I can't buy where I live...I miss all the dim sum and bakery foods... Yummmmm...👍👍👍👌👌👌👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤❤😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
David i love your volgs but slow down eating enjoy the food. Jaja..
I have a few videos on sf restaurants as well. I may try some Chinatown restaurants.
You make the best faces ever & you’re so handsome.
Armando Tarahumara it’s just a compliment...calm down.
@Armando Tarahumara wth
@Armando Tarahumara you are not pleased with that, he can compliment whoever he wants, It doesn't mean he likes him
Great video David. Yeah SF has the oldest Chinatown in America and its great location, but have you ever visted the oldest Chinatown in the world, in Manila Philippines, its over 450 years old? I visited a few years back, its all updated but great fun, not as large area wise as the SF Chinatown.
NEW VIDEO LETS GO
Dim sum is great with numerous varieties. Even pork bun could be steamed or deep fried at the bun base added with white wine. That's an invention by Hong Kong chef. Try!
The Egg Tarts (Pastéis de Nata) are actually from Macau, a former Portuguese Colony near Hong Kong and were introduced to the Chinese by the Portuguese. You can still find the egg tarts in Portugal and Brazil as well. Remnant of the Portuguese Empire!
Many of the Chinese food in America that does not exist in China do exist in the Philippines (beef brocoli, chopsuey, egg rolls, Chowmien noodles cooked in American style, orange chicken....etc.)
Dude needs to order more veggie versions, really experience it all
It makes me feel hungry.. i could eat dim sum's everyday
FYI: NYC has the largest Chinese population outside of Asia. It also has the largest Chinatown in the USA. San Francisco is the oldest Chinatown in the US. Google it, I just did out of curiosity. Great video. Keep up the great work. 😊
Wow the SF Chinatown website said its the oldest and that it has the largest Chinese population: thank you for letting me know I was wrong. Can’t always be right looking online 😓
Davidsbeenhere I am retired in Las Vegas but have family in NY. When I visit my family, they take me to the two Chinatown’s that NY has. The Old Chinatown in Manhattan and the New Chinatown in Brooklyn. Don’t need google, just look around and see for yourself. Been to Shanghai, China. The shopping for Chinese items and for Chinese food is even better in NY than in Shanghai. Go figure. Enjoy your videos. 😊
I’ve been in all of those places in SF Chinatown. Best food intown. You should have ordered daibow
Ricardo Tongol HELL YEAH
Please tell me that you are gonna get an epic burrito in SF!

Why were u shivering while eating🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
i always loved Chinese food, architecture, designs
THUMB-UP
Dude. Don’t think you are supposed to eat over the steamer. Getting your soy sauce all over. Get a small plate or bowls.
Japko O they didn’t give me a plate because I was alone so no choice. Sorry you weren’t happy with it!
Davidsbeenhere oh... No big deal. Just thought it was odd. They should of gave u a plate. Anyways, keep it up. Love seeing all the food available.
David should come to HK or even Singapore to eat real Chinese food.
hong kong fair enough but singapore isn't china, if you said chinese food in china then yeah its understandable
I can get walnut shrimp at Panda Express ! LOL
That's a lion dance, not dragon.
Yes but they are dressed in a 🐉 not 🦁
Davidsbeenhere Sorry David to correct you again but that is a lion costume, not dragon, believe me. You can Google Chinese lion dance and will see photos of lion dance and costume. Chinese lion dances are traditionally performed in ceremonies to bring good luck and fortune such as Chinese New Year, business grand openings, weddings, etc.
Thanks for correcting him, Minnie!
@@Davidsbeenhere you can see lion dance on their t-shirt.
This made me very hungry. I loved dumplings and pork buns in Shanghai but in South Africa theres not much choice available, basically pork and chives but 90 percent chives
2.5 each OR $30 per ounce. What a deal! LMAO
When man in high castle brought u here
2458/194 yea san fran
Dude those are not dragons ,there called lions
Too much noise in restaurant when you was eating , I think it would be better if you dub it latar.
I just saw my mom on this video 😂
I saw the man in high castle
sup harrison
She’s talking to you respond
Those were lions, not dragons
除非去华人开的店,而且顾客大部分是华人的店才能吃到真正的中国菜,否则都是改良过的美式中国菜
Odd how those kids have lion dance shirts on but you keep saying dragon dance.
Jadet T You got it all wrong.. It's called a Lion Dance, Dragon dance is a whole different thing
You didn’t venture down to Irving in the outer sunset ?!? Do your damn homework son! Fire your fixer !
Your voice says delicious but your face says yuck 😂
David why don't you visit the islamic china... Muslim chinese in China... Any problem with muslims
Everybody learn from chinese about .............. Making
4:26 pork and shrimp my ass. Thats made of all the parts that no one wants to eat.
One thing I was told about food (No matter where you go), DON'T ASK TOO MANY QUESTIONS. I have seen how foods are made all over the world. Yes, if it says Pork and Shrimp dish. YEEAH, just shut up, eat, and let the fantasy of pork and shrimp take over. Thus, advise, always let the placebo effect of pork and shrimp make you drift off to the world of fantasy.
china town in ny city is the oldest then china town were you are
toni sargent so?
Dude you know nothing about china towns stop now dude
That explains coronavirus outbreak bats snake bacon pigeons and who knows what never ever ill go eat chinese food.
