@GahloWake Are you able to see what I'm talking about, though? As a kid, I just saw this awkward surface level scene. As an adult, I think you can absolutely read into this scene as an allegory for fighting depression and, of course, stuff I won't get into for spoiler reasons.
I don't think I ever really processed the fact that many people played this as an actual child, the fact it became a meme about how stupid it was makes SO much more sense now
Oh for sure. I had second hand embarrassment watching this at the time. And this scene was the butt of many jokes/memes for many a millennial. Seeing it now, removed from much of that, it's so much deeper and endearing than my 14 year old brain was capable of comprehending.
I will say this, the match against the Goers is NOT scripted. You can indeed win this game. It is just incredibly difficult due to your low stats. A tip for it, try and be next to your own players if you need to pass to avoid fumbles, and don't allow the goers to "intercept" your play as you will lose the ball 9/10 times. The Jecht shot is also a massive plus to have in this as it is arguably the best shot going.
Easier than people make it out to be. Jecth shot is a requirement. Move Tidus to a defender position. Pray you get the ball in the 1st half. Retreat back and have Tidus and the other defender pass back and forth for the rest of the half. Youll level up to Level 3. Move Tidus back to offense. Equip Jetch shot. Go on offense in the 2nd half. Make a run with Tidus on goal. Knock out 2 defenders with Jetch shot. Then when Wakka subs in. You either score again or play it safe and just hide behind your goaltender assuming you are in the lead.
Another tip I learned about Blitzball is players earn XP every time they touch the ball. Early on I learned just by playing keep away & constantly passing the ball between your teammates, you'll earn way more XP than your opponent which will give your players an edge in all blitzball stats.
@@toddolsen4604 Jecht Shot is not a requirement. I managed to score a goal with Wakka on my last playthrough too. Won me the match at 2:0 but if I only got the goal from Wakka without Tidus' Jecht Shot I would've still won. But that was on my fourth or so playthrough and I had already played Blitzball excessively on previous playthroughs. So I knew what I was doing. As a first time player, yeah I'd assume Jecht Shot is your only realistic chance.
2:16:33 Yes! Thank you for saying this. Tidus is considered by many in the community as the "whiniest" character in FF. But all things considered, he is reacting far better than expected with his situation. And i think most of the time, his outbursts aren't unfounded
@@REChronic54 agreed. When I think about the typical person nowadays in his situation, I don't think they'd be able to function at all. Tidus' response is more than understandable.
His English VA has a sort of nasally quality, and I think people judge characters by their voices quite a bit. Not saying it's fair, but I think that's where his reputation comes from.
I was thinking the same while watching her theory craft. She's really perceptive. It's also incredibly charming and authentic when she's completely off-base lol
which is crazy because almost every move she makes in every enemy encounter is just about the worst, most non-sensical move you could make. But her emotional intelligence is really high, that's what keeps me watching her.
@@jada90 Well her first turn based final fantasy. That is an entire other world compared to even Remake/Rebirth. It takes a lot of time to understand the mechanics properly, what all the commands mean and so on. So I don't think it is "crazy" to not do the best move all the time 6 hours into the first turn-based Final Fantasy ever.
@@Kimdk87she was at the end of rebirth using focus strikes on already staggered enemies. i don’t think it’s a time thing, she doesn’t read what moves do and glances over tutorials.
Oh, and the moves called 'Extract Power, or Extract Speed' etc., you don't need to use them - especially for boss fights. They're for Sphere farming (if you ever really need to), and if you use them against bosses, the bosses won't drop their special Spheres, just regular ones.
I find Extract Ability is the only one I ever really need to use - too many Spells near the start of the Sphere Grid and in groups of 4 to cover the elements, burn through them pretty fast and takes a while to build them back up again.
@@jada90Lol it's made me want to replay the game myself because I'm watching just like, OMG what madness is this, just attack the little wiry guy with Tidus haha
When I was a kid, the very first game that I had for PS2 was Final Fantasy X - watching these playthroughs brings back a lot of nostalgia for me. I love your commentary. You are very insightful and pick up on the nuances of the characters thoughts and emotions. FFX definitely has the best story in the franchise. It goes deep so be prepared for emotional damage :D
Heh, yay, the infamous laugh scene! I obsessed over blitzball when playing. There are many tips, but here's just a few: 1). You aren't picking one person to breakthrough, you are stacking them, which sums up their stats. 2). Don't let yourself get ganged up on, especially when your stats are low. Pass the ball a lot before defenders reach you to keep them moving around and hopefully out of the way of your eventual shooter. It's also a good way to get exp for your players if you keep passing it around to all of them. 3). Be super close to the goal when you shoot for best chances.
Point 1 she learned in the tutorial but then forgot / didn't pay enough attention. Point 2 she also clearly forgot she could take actions freely instead of needing to wait to be confronted Point 3 didn't even come into play lol
@AceCorban Pass early, pass often, get your shooter close then pass to them and shoot before anyone gets close. Recruit well. The Al Bed, from what I remember were some of the best players. Once you get leveled up tidus can use the jecht shot mark 3 and cut most anyone down and score. Wish I could remember more, but I haven't played since it first was released.
@@jada90Even in the tutorial she didn’t catch that you couldn’t pick who to break through; that breaks are in order from top to bottom and you could only pick how many you would break through.
So, I know you're probably a few episodes in front of us, but to answer some questions and tidbits. 1.) It is possible to win that blitzball game, but you really need the Jecht Shot that you did not pick up when you were trying to recreate his shot on the boat. It does involve a lot of cheese, since your stats are worse than the Goers. It's not really worth it. 2.) The "Extract X" (Power, Ability) don't really boost your attack, nor do they lower enemies attacks. The info bar will tell you that it will garantee the monster drops the sphere that it is extracting. Bad for enemies, good for sphere farming in case you run low. 3.) Everyone's Overdrive (Or limit break in this game) is different to reflect their personalities. The info bar will let you know how it works. 4.) The Info Bar at the top is very important, so please read it. It's not like new Final Fantasies. This game will give you all the time in the world to read things so please read them.
You can win the first blitzball game, but it is arguably the hardest game of blitzball because there's so little room for error and you're forced to play with a not-so-great Besaid Aurochs team. It's also brutal because it's your first game, which seems a bit unfair. 😅
I assumed it was impossible my first playthrough and then the second time I played it I was amazed at how easy it actually is. Just keep passing for the first half to level up and then score with Tidus or wakka in the second lol
@@ricardobautista2141 Yea once you have a strategy it's not too difficult. Still need a little bit of luck maybe in the first game if you don't have the Jecht shot, but even without it if you know how to skirt along the edges and pass the ball before they engage you it's not too tough. But first playthrough first game pretty much everyone sucks, lol.
A lot of people didn't and still don't get that the laughing scene was meant to be like this and that it isn't bad dubbing lol. Such a great but misunderstood scene.
This episode about to be ICONIC!! Blitzball intro!! Auron returns, Anima reveal!! and the Laughing scene!!! So excited. Been waiting for this all day :)
For overdrives, look at the top of the screen, it will tell you what to do. For Lulu's overdrive, you to have to rotate the analog stick on your controller clockwise as fast as possible. Each rotation will equal to a number of spells she casts of that magic. So if you manage to rotate the analog stick five times in that time limit, she will cast that magic five times for example. I think my personal best is eight.
Lulu’s overdrive is so sad and to get up to 11!? That’s incredible. I found I had to spin the stick multiple times to get 1 cast, especially for late game spells. So for ultima I’d get max 4-5 as fast as I could go, which with the damage multiplier where each cast does less damage than normal, the damage was barely more than one regular cast of ultima. Always disappointing and I basically stopped using it to save my remote from damage.
Really looking forward to this part as I know we get a major twist! :) I'm so happy to see you're enjoying the game so much, Kasta. The game's story will surely leave such a lasting impression on you even after beating the game - there's a reason it's among people's favorites in the series! :D
A general tip, but there's a lot of extra dialogue / optional cutscenes that you can miss easily by accidentally progressing the story. You can talk to your party 2-3 times (for extra dialogue). Continue talking to a party member until you've exhausted their dialogue. Main / important characters tend to have 2-3 prompts of dialogue. As for the optional cutscenes, 1) try not to move away from your party and talk to your party first (from nearest to furthest). 2) Avoid going towards the direction of the red arrow on the map. Especially if you're in an area with no random encounters, you can afford to explore as much as you want. 3) If the end of the cutscene is implying you should talk to Yuna for example but Wakka or Lulu are around too, try to talk to them first. On the boat trip to Luca - there was a Yuna scene (though that one is really tricky, since the first thing you must do is go to her or it disappears). - there were two extra optional Wakka x Lulu scenes (a total of 3). To trigger them you had to keep climbing up the stairs. Mentioning this since there are a lot of great (missable) optional cutscenes coming up in FFX. You don't need to get all of them (first playthrough and all) but it would be a shame if you missed most of them. I think with these tips you should be able to get +90% of them.
I really think this is the best game in the history of gaming to watch reactions of. There is so much here that just screams feelings. Just thinking back to how many people ridiculed and hated that scene when it came out and now years and years later its one of my favorites. And so much more to go.
Btw, Silence only stops them from using magic. So if the enemy isn't a magic user it does nothing. Darkness "blinds" them which means their physical attacks are more likely to miss. 2:05:18 In this fight the bird was still able to use Sonic Boom while silenced, that means it's not a magic attack but a physical ability. So darkness would have been better against this boss.
In blitzball, NEVER go mark mode. When you get the ball, pass it to Jassu and challenge Abus, then lure Graav and swim towards Abus, challenge Abus again before Graav enters your circle. Pass the ball back to Letty. Go towards Balgerda and lure her away by swimming south, away from the goal. Before Balgerda catches up pass the ball to Tidus, who should now be wide open to get into the goalies face and shoot. This was a great video! It really brings me back! 😊
That's the key my man is to hone in on Abus and stay away from Graav at all costs. The player can learn from defeats that Graav will kill you if you involve him in the play or let him have the ball while Abus is the weak link on their team
Your perception is amazing Maggie. I did not appreciate this story when I played it at 11 years old. However, going back and playing it as an older teen/adult... holy.. the emotional damage. I'll be watching each episode you upload so i can experience everything again. This is one of those games I wish I could experience for the first time again.
1:27:10 Tidus wasn't talking about telling Wakka the secret. He meant tell Wakka they have Yuna back so he doesn't need to throw the game. That's why Lulu threw up the flare, and in the next scene Wakka saw it and fought to score that goal.
Just a tip, for Tidus he unlocks new overdrives by using his overdrives. So you don’t necessarily want to save his too much in the beginning. Other characters unlock them in different ways.
Snap. I usually fire out his overdrives once I learn warrior for him. You can easily get his blitz ace before you hot the calm lands just spamming his overdrive as he gets it
Just got around to finishing this episode, but man, Kasta, you're reaction at 2:12:00 was ALL of us on our first playthrough. I can't wait to see your reactions as the story unfolds!
One of my favorite things about watching your content is how incredibly smart you are. You make a lot of predictions that end up being on the money, which is such a treat to see someone pick up on certain things so quickly. I cant wait for more FFX! PS: you could've won that game. But the Aurochs are really bad, so their stats dont even compare to the Goers.
I always found the voice acting of James Arnold Taylor in this game to be annoying. He's a great actor, but his performance in this game wasn't very good in my opinion. I just like the sound of the Japanese cast much better over all.
@@Crinbo This is a good point because in the Crisis Core Remake the voice actor for Zack sounded really bad but that same guy voiced Zack in FF7 Rebirth and sounded much better as the voice director for Rebirth was a different person than the one for Crisis Core Remake.
The Blitzball tournament isn't scripted. What I see a lot is people allowing the defense to close in. Swimp towards the outside where there is only one defender, break them, and keep going. Don't swim towards the middle into 2 or more defenders. You can also call up the action screen before any defender enters the circle around your player's arrow, allowing for uncontested play. Also, getting that Jecht Shot from the challenge on the boat, prior would have helped tremendously.
For me, the best mini games in the entire Final Fantasy franchise were Chocobo Breeding/Racing in FF7, Triple Triad from FF8, and Blitzball from FFX. I loved all three of those games. BTW, you can beat the Lucca Goers in your first game, but it's not easy. Most people do lose, and that's ok.
@@guidopasquetto911 The questline around Queen's Blood was great, but I kinda just get nostalgic for Triple Triad. Collecting those cards just brings back good memories, I specifically remember playing the guy in Fisherman's Horizon who had all the level 8 cards and getting both the Triple Triad song and Fisherman's Horizon stuck in my head because I stayed there so long trying to get all the cards. Plus, to me Queen's Blood itself just seemed so derivative of Triple Triad. Queen's Blood was still great though in my opinion as well, and I wouldn't begrudge anyone who liked it best. It just wasn't my personal favorite. I would also say a guilty pleasure of mine was the Snowboarding mini game from FF7 too! It was kind of just a... I don't know. I don't want to say a nothing mini game, but it certainly wasn't as important as Chocobo Breeding was, you know? Regardless, I loved the heck out of that game!
Btw, you don't need to use the 'Extract' moves for actual combat. They are for farming spheres, so Extract Ability is for extracting ability spheres, and you will receive them at the end of the battle along with Sp level and gill etc. Bosses are immune to them so you especially have no need for the Extract moves at all. Don't bother with them. When you you are running low on spheres, go fight normal fiends and use Extract moves on them to get more spheres.
Game does a terrible job at explaining things. When you're about to perform an action like that there should be a reminder / description of what it does.
Careful using “Extract” skills on enemies. It overwrites the normal drops you would get from them. Especially so for bosses. “Extract” skills exist for when you’re low on spheres for the sphere grid.
Ahhh nice to find someone still at the beggining of the game. You got yourself another subscriber, lady! FFX is probably my favorite game ever! I can replay it over and over again and never get tired of its story, gameplay, sidequests and soundtrack :) I really really hope you're enjoying it! Keep it up!!
And yes. You can win the blitzball game hahaha but I think it's hard if you don't use the manual control (so you can move your own players when you have the ball) and then just usually use Tidus' shoots (Jecht shot if you learned at the boat or the upside down shoot that I forgot the name :P)
The first time I played this game, I failed the blitzball tournament as bad as you. But when I played the remastered version, I looked up a guide for the tournament ahead of time and managed to beat it. Blitzball is a really fun mini game if you give it a chance.
Literally haven't seen another playthrough of this game yet as good as this one has been, definitely glad you aren't talking to random people every other two seconds and ruining your experience of the game
And they eat up her turns. A normal attack has a turn time of 3. Her fury overdrives can go as high as 10 for Ultima fury. Meaning she won't get a turn again until everyone else has gone 3 times.
Blitzball gets you Wakka's second overdrive ability, and much later, is part of activating his Ultimate Weapon - other than that it can get you some interesting little extras to use on the Sphere Grid (like the Unlocking Spheres, the Spheres that create Nodes & some teleport Spheres that let you reposition characters on the Grid. So how much you play depends on how much you care about those thing's.
Meant to say this in a previous vid, but very astute your observations on how much water was in this game. Squaresoft actually did it deliberately just so they could show off as water was notoriously hard to do in previous gaming generations, their first ps2 effort was built largely around showing off lol, as is tradition.
I gotta admit...out of all the ffx first time play through and all their theory. I am impressed by your sharpness of it. Not spoiling or anything. But just saying yours is sharp.
That first blitz match is like the first bosses you meet in some Souls games. It's possible to win the first match, but mostly they're there to give you a goal to reach for. REVENGE!
Enjoying your playthrough of my favorite game ever ❤ Kasta, keep in mind the "extract" skills (ability, power, etc.) do not deal extra damage or anything, they just make the enemy drop an ability/power/etc. sphere for your sphere grid to activate nodes when defeated. I recommend you to read every single battle command and skill description in the help bar (upper part of the battle UI) whenever your cursor selects them to learn and enjoy the battles even more. Living for your FFX journey, thanks for bringing it to us 🎉 Edit after watching it all: Forgot to tell you, you can also read abilities function inside the Abilities command (main menu) Aaand yes, the first blitzball game usually results in a massacre 😅 just a couple pieces of advice: don't bother changing formations, and most importantly: the main issue you had during the game was making rival players gather together to tackle you. Better to keep passing while you don't have many rivals close. Look for empty spaces. 😊
The Blitzball game is winnable, but don’t beat yourself up over it. It’s a really cool mini game in theory but the game throws way too much complicated information at you at once and then makes you save Yuna before you even get to play your first game. On top of that the AI for the Goers is ridiculously good.
To be fair, it's an easy mini game to crack: play Manual, and make sure to take action when there's no one in your circle. That's basically all it takes to win in general, as long as you don't shoot from too far away. Getting double or triple teamed in every encounter won't get you anywhere. 😄
The real trick is to score one goal and then hang out in your own goal with the ball without moving. The AI doesn’t know what to do and just lets you sit there.
I would definitely recommend giving blitzball a chance. It really becomes fun once you start getting better players on your team. Like Nimrook the goalie for the al bhed psyches.
A few things of note this episode. The blitz all game is not scripted, HOWEVER even the best of us have to somewhat 'cheese' it to win. The 'Extract' abilities dont do extra damage, they change the type of spheres dropped fo farming specific stats. All weapons have the same base strength, the only thing changing a weapon does is change the passives. Also, your intuition about plot, tho not perfect, is earily close and gave me goosebumps. I love all final fantasy content and it is great watching someone experience this fantastic game for the first time.
I've never been so excited for an upload then the introduction of blitzball, i have literally put hundreds of hours into it. I know O'aka seems suspicious but he isn't shady giving him money when you can afford to may be beneficial in the long run.
Damage in this game comes mostly from your development in the sphere grid. Weapons and armor only purpose in this game is to grant certain abilities. Like Damage x %, Waterstrike, HP + 5%. But weapons themselves do not have stats.
Yuna and Tidus are so adorable together. As for that Blitzball game, it's possible to win, but very hard to pull off. On my first playthrough, I didn't know it was possible, and on my second, I had to reload from my save point over and over to pull it off. The team is internationally supposed to be really bad, and your odds are low.
Nope, I'm afraid the loss is not scripted, you can win the tournament. Remember that Jecht shot in the previous episode? If you'd have gotten that it would have made the game easy and you can win and take home the cup. Also with Lulu's overdrive, you need to spin the analogue sticks.
Theres no real notion that sin is jecht before the reveal apart from auron talking to sin in a personal manner in the opening of the game. Auron is the only one who would know for sure, so realistically you would only find out that fact on a first play through at the reveal.
NPC/Character dialogue tip: talk to NPC/Characters more than once to exhaust additional dialogue for more lore, etc. Battle tip: you already understand the 4 elemental attacks during battle, but there's still various status ailments that apply to your party and enemies to review and learn. Battle Skills tip: the skills "Extract Power/Ability" are not real attacks. They are for forcing enemies to drop Power/Ability spheres for your upgrading your characters on the sphere grid. Each enemy drops specific spheres but these "Extract" skill forces monsters to drop the sphere of whatever Extract skill you used. You will get plenty of spheres so no need to use the Extract skills and burn up MP.
I played this game 15 years ago. Probably my favorite JRPG, together with Dragon Quest 8. The history is soo good, made me cry a couple times. If you like this one, you should play Dragon Quest 8, Final Fantasy 8 and final fantasy 9 , they all have a love story with ups and downs on their on. And amazing games overall.
Equipment doesn't alter stats. I notice you are looking at equipment for attack stats etc.. but equipment only changes the equipped abilities (sensor, poison touch etc) and the stats are determined purely by the character's own stats through the sphere grid. 😊
All weapons have an attack value of 16. However, due to a bug, weapons dropped from Bomb enemies have an attack value of 18. This is minor and the difference is negligible though
I am happy you are enjoying this amazing game. I am following your journey. So far I think you are one of the best game streamers, so I appreciate your time and sharing your experience.
Haha I love how you get emotional with Yuna and Titus, I remember when I first played this I was so moved by their relationship. Just shows how into the game your are, where you can have that emotional connection!
The blitzball game is *way* easier if you got the Jecht Shot, and I think that was what the devs intended, but the terrible tutorial for that minigame fucks up 90+% of players - I literally don't think I've ever seen anyone get it first try. The tutorials are a really interesting point - the old school (aka pre-FFX), menu-based ones (sphere grid, minigame, blitzball) suck. They overload you with info and text without giving you a chance to practice the basics. On the other hand, the combat tutorial when leaving Besaid is top tier - it gets across the basics, lets the player practice in a safe environment, AND even does some cool story/character progression by having them teach Tidus in-universe. AND that tutorial is secretly continued in Kilika, which has a bunch of hidden lines the other characters can say during the combat there to reinforce the basics, but they only trigger if you mess up! The contrast between the two styles of tutorial is a really neat example of how game design was evolving around the time.
I need you to play Blitzball on my game. lol I can't stand Blitzball. I always play enough to get the attack reels for Wakka, and that's about it. I've never gotten his celestial weapon.
I used to do the same with my level 99 team too but at high levels with the right team the game is so broken and kind of boring. I chose an all round character as my mid fielder and they had high enough stats to just rush the goal, break all 5 opponents and score. No passes or strats needed. 13 - 0 easy.
Losing in Blitzball at this point is to be expected. It's similar to fighting a Souls tutorial boss. Losing is normal, but there are ways to win, especially if you had gotten Jecht's shot.
First off, I love this playthrough! I'm waiting excitingly for every part! Auron revealing who Sin really is is a great twist! I love it! Also I love the Yuna and Tidus laughing scene. It shows both Yuna's amazing dedication she has for the people of Spira and who Yuna really is deep down. Yuna knows people look up to her being a summoner. So she has to smile for them even when she is feeling sad. It goes to show how much she is willing to sacrifice for the good of others, which is an extremely admirable trait. And her statement that she wants her journey to be full of laughter shows that what Yuna really wants is for everyone to be happy and laughing even in a world that has Sin in it. That shows how pure and good hearted Yuna is. The laughing scene is also great because it i s very endearing and shows the growing connection of Yuna and Tidus. Very wholesome scene!
When you first encounter Sin and get picked up, you then "Dream" before you wake up again in Spira. In this Dream... you do see Jecht, yes. (Edit. Oh but i think it is just a brief Moment when you swim down. As soon as you talk to him, it changes to someone else. Maybe yourself, i dont know right now either without looking it up, sorry.) That was what Auron meant there "you must have felt him when you came into contact with Sin". So yes... you could have had a Thought in this Direction but like most ppl (at least me back then) i just thought he dreamed about his Father because... he does have strong Feelings towards him (Hates him so much). But i like your explanation/Idea that Sin/Jecht did take us to Kilika later on as well. Really good. Oh. And when Auron holds us just before you get suck up by Sin he says... or asks... "You are sure...?" and some other Stuff but if you dont have Context, you can not really pick it up back then. You may hold the Thought that Auron did say something to that... Thing but thats it.
Blitzball is difficult in the early game, but beating the Goers in the championship game is possible. When on defense most of it is entirely out of your hands, when on offense do you have direct control of anything. You really have to rely on Tidus to shoot and make goals and hope you can mark the other team's shooters for defense. You can get other players the raise your team's stats the more you play. You can use save scumming to win the championship game.
It's an awesome Tuesday afternoon with FFX: International enjoying the interesting characters, you and Ginger have an enjoyable rest of the week thanks Kasta.🥛💓🐈:)
The blitzball match isn't too bad once you know some of the tricks to it, but yeah, on a first playthrough you never feel prepared! I did get a 5-1 win once and I think Tidus does like a goofy dance after a certain number of goals during the match.
I love the way FF10 give important destails and secrets about the story bite by bite in a very smart way, and give you time to understand the plot as you play it, But there are always something happen.
Love the relationship between all the characters throughout the game. Also the first blitzball game is winnable but omg is it crazy difficult. Once you learn how the game works it's very playable to win against the goers. Also the laughing scene is one of the most hated scenes in FF, I feel it's because people don't understand that the scene is supposed to be awkward between Tidus and Yuna but it's cute at the same time.
Well here we go this is when it starts to get juicy much love hope you’re having a great time playing through and much love to all have a great week :)
Most people lose that first Blitzball game on their first playthrough. It's very difficult, obscenely difficult if you don't have the Jecht shot. It has a minor affect on one scene and you get a nice prize if you win, but it has no negative affects on the game.
I remember playing this with my brother and uncle for 1-2 hours before we could finally earn a victory. It was challenging but sooo worth it when we finally won the blitzball game
Auron is my favorite character in 10. When I was a kid my dad and I were both going through this game and at some point he gaslit me into believing that Auron was voiced by Bruce Willis which I thought was the coolest thing ever at the time. The betrayal I felt when years later I replayed the game and uncovered the truth but was countered by the fact that Rikku is voiced by Tara Strong who voiced many characters I was a fan of. Love this game lol.
I played Blizball religiously and this is how I made tons of gil in this game lol. I believe that if you donate to O'aka, he'll give you better items the next time you talk to him
The amount of good rewards you can get from playing blitzball is actually really good. Also when it comes to weapons etc they don't really have stats in this game. It's more the extra abilities they give you that matters. Like sensor and waterstrike etc. You stats determine how hard you hit for magic or strength.
I was going to offer some tips on combat and Blitzball but the other comments have covered them. One thing I will say is continue to go off the directed path and search to your hearts content, as you have seen you never know what you will find. The story will come when you get back on track. I bought the guide with the game but like you I did my first playthrough blind and had similar results. When using the guide on my next playthrough I was amazed at what I missed. Over the years I have done at least 10 playthroughs and enjoyed them all almost as much as I enjoy watching yours. Keep having fun!
The Goers match is winnable, but it is basically one of the hardest matches in the game, so for a first time player it could be considered a scripted loss. Winning it is more of a second playthrough kind of thing for people who have mastered Blitzball
Pronunciation tip, Zanarkand: Final Fantasy often borrowed from real world mythology, but in this case the myth meets reality. The city name is a twist on a real city in Uzbekistan called Samarkand. It's one of the oldest cities on earth, they just swapped the S for a Z, and the M for an N. Learn the talk works city name and Tidus hometown will be easier for you. "And that, as they say, is that" 😉
An episode or two ago: "No more goofs!" This episode: "Maestro!" Anyway, Maesters are religious leaders. The religious structure is similar to the Catholic church. Maesters are effectively cardinals and one is the Pope.
One of the best character in all of the FF series has finally joined the team. 8) FFX characters interaction within the team is super good, one of the best in the series with FFVII Remake/Rebirth in how deep and developed it gets. The way they interact among the group, and how their relations grows is fantastic. You missed quite a few hidden cutscenes and a lot of optional dialogues. Each character can be spoken to two times, sometimes even more, for every step of the main story progression (a step can be as little as a single cutscene, sometimes ; each time a character is at a different spot or is doing something different, they get several new dialogues). The optional dialogues can have interesting details about a character backstory or expression of character's feelings at the current moment. FFX is full of missable stuff (and a lot of them are really good). Now, don't be afraid to miss some stuff along the way, for a first (blind) playthrough it's impossible to see everything (obviously not even talking about 'cutscenes variations' (a lot of cutscenes have a range of variations like in FFVII Remake/Rebirth, depending on different factors ; And you also get the equivalent "date scene" kind like FFVII, so I'm curious to see what character you'll get, but all of them are interesting anyway)). I would suggest to be curious as the game often rewards you with something (either a secret cutscene, an item/equipment, more lore/backstory, etc.), but don't feel pressured to do or see everything, it can be overwhelming for a first playthrough. Just a small tip : Some stuff are hidden in plain sights (The Al-bhed primers and treasure chests are an example), so keeping a sharp eye can help because they can be just a few pixel visible on the screen. Understanding the Al-bhed language is really interesting too, not only you get to understand what the Al-bhed people are saying but there are also some neat secrets that requires translation. Enjoy the ride, Kasta, FFX is a classic. A great Adventure with a superb story and an unforgetable cast of characters. (It's still surprises me how well it has aged for a 23 years old game, despite some of the low poly (but charming) 3D models)
I'll be writing two comments so the reading doesn't become overwhelming, but for this one, I want to discuss Overdrives. -Tidus: Don't save your Overdrives. Tidus learns new ones the more he uses the ones he knows. -Wakka: His Overdrives (and Ultimate Weapon) revolve entirely around blitzball. If you want them, you better start early. I made the mistake of collecting his things right before the final boss. I never went through with it. -Lulu: Her Overdrives revolve around the spells she knows. The more powerful the spells, the less she'll be able to cast with her Fury. -Yuna: Her Overdrives revolve around her Aeons. One for Yuna herself to immediately fill one Aeon's Overdrive gauge and one for every Aeon in her possession with the exception of Valefor who has two. I never got the second one. -Kimahri: As the dedicated Blue Mage of the party, his Overdrives revolve around the attacks he learns from Lancet. It's tedious to collect everything and it just effectively sucks. -Auron: He's like a fighting game character. If you know the combo well, you can be prepared to perform the Overdrive. Given this is not the HD version, it should be easier to collect the things necessary to learn his Overdrives. - *[Slight Spoilers]* Rikku: She's the dedicated alchemist of the party, and as such, it requires mixing items and knowing which goes with which. You better love experimenting or have a guide on hand. Good Lord.
I remember saving up for a PS2 just to play this game. I only had enough for the console and the game but couldn't get a memory card. For a couple of weeks I just played the game daily up to just after the Blitzball tournament then shut it off. The benefit of it was learning Blitzball and after the first few attempts I didn't lose that first game again. If I remember, the strategy was just trying to play keep away my leading defenders away and making sure someone was near the other goal with no defenders.
Do you know why Maesters wear sunglasses?
...So they can Seymour.
I'll see myself out.
Don't forget to close the door! ^^
Groan...but in a good way😎. I love one liner comics and dad jokes.....although I’m not good at telling them because I never quite remember them😂.
It was clever, al bhed not very funny. I give it an 8/10 for creativity
I got that one😂.
It's wild how the laughing scene has two entirely different contexts to me playing this as a kid and watching this as an adult.
And then there's me, who basically forgot almost everything about this game and only remembers the laughing scene from memes.
@GahloWake Are you able to see what I'm talking about, though? As a kid, I just saw this awkward surface level scene. As an adult, I think you can absolutely read into this scene as an allegory for fighting depression and, of course, stuff I won't get into for spoiler reasons.
I don't think I ever really processed the fact that many people played this as an actual child, the fact it became a meme about how stupid it was makes SO much more sense now
@@Splitlnfinity Of course.
The Jecht shot is also a massive plus to have in this as it is arguably the best shot going.
and no mark mode!
I’d like to introduce everyone who calls Tidus whiny to our very special pre-time skip Noctis 🙂🙂🙂
But but Vaan…
Kasta is so incredibly sharp. I have seen so many of her letsplays and her theories are so high quality and often right.
I was thinking the same while watching her theory craft. She's really perceptive. It's also incredibly charming and authentic when she's completely off-base lol
which is crazy because almost every move she makes in every enemy encounter is just about the worst, most non-sensical move you could make. But her emotional intelligence is really high, that's what keeps me watching her.
my jaw is on the floor. You are right!.
You have no idea the amount of joy it brings me to see your thumbnail in my feed. 😁
Oh, and the moves called 'Extract Power, or Extract Speed' etc., you don't need to use them - especially for boss fights. They're for Sphere farming (if you ever really need to), and if you use them against bosses, the bosses won't drop their special Spheres, just regular ones.
I'm wondering what episode she'll realize what it does lol
I find Extract Ability is the only one I ever really need to use - too many Spells near the start of the Sphere Grid and in groups of 4 to cover the elements, burn through them pretty fast and takes a while to build them back up again.
Almost nothing she does during battles makes any sense, just something you're going to have to come to peace with lol
They’re actually quite useful in the ps2 versions, as the spheres used to be extremely rare, especially ability and power
O'aka is one of the best recurring merchants in videogames, be friendly with that dude.
Heh, yay, the infamous laugh scene!
I obsessed over blitzball when playing. There are many tips, but here's just a few:
Point 2 she also clearly forgot she could take actions freely instead of needing to wait to be confronted
Point 3 didn't even come into play lol
Getting the Jeckt Shot for Tidus really helps.
The best strategy is to pass the ball a lot in the first round and gain enough levels to use abilities in the second round.
Long as you have the Jecht shot I found it very easy every time. When I screwed it up and didn't get it though I remember it being hell
I've never clicked on a video so fast.
Absolutely Loving your playthrough of my favourite FF.
A lot of people didn't and still don't get that the laughing scene was meant to be like this and that it isn't bad dubbing lol. Such a great but misunderstood scene.
I agree, Always loved that scene. It seems a lot of people don't have the emotional depth to understand it.
People have always been too dumb to understand that Tidus is laughing like an idiot to cheer up her up.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.... >.> XD
I wouldn't call it a great scene. 😂 It's one of the scenes of all times for sure.
But it's still cringe and a meme.
@@vulcanh254 then you never understood it lol.
My personal best was 11, but my average was around 5 or 6. I swear it never read my input correctly
On the boat trip to Luca
- there was a Yuna scene (though that one is really tricky, since the first thing you must do is go to her or it disappears).
If you haven't yet do a physical attack with Lulu and her cactuar. Comedy gold.
1:27:10
Tidus wasn't talking about telling Wakka the secret.
The voice actor for Tidus does such a good job. I only beat this game myself a few days ago and the whole cast were really good.
I always found the voice acting of James Arnold Taylor in this game to be annoying. He's a great actor, but his performance in this game wasn't very good in my opinion. I just like the sound of the Japanese cast much better over all.
@eupher2
I mean given the stilted nature of a lot of the VAs, it's pretty obvious it's the voice direction that's at fault and not the actors.
@@Crinbo This is a good point because in the Crisis Core Remake the voice actor for Zack sounded really bad but that same guy voiced Zack in FF7 Rebirth and sounded much better as the voice director for Rebirth was a different person than the one for Crisis Core Remake.
1:31:40 you’d be amazed how many people DONT realize you def know he’s retiring.
What about Queen's Blood from Rebirth? That one is easily the best imo
@@RicoLen1 dont like sphere break? XD
3d brawler anyone? (jk)
43:00
Maggie, this part of the video really has me excited to see you explore every nook and cranny of the Gardens in FF8 🥰
@@vulcanh254There is... it's in the Info bar at the top of the screen, every single time you hover over it
funniest part is "k is g! i wonder how many there are, though..." (missing that there would logically be 26, one for each letter of the alphabet)
Yes! I've been waiting for my ffx fix😂
Lulu's overdrive requires you to move the analog stick in circles as quickly as possible. The more circles, the more casts.
And they eat up her turns. A normal attack has a turn time of 3. Her fury overdrives can go as high as 10 for Ultima fury. Meaning she won't get a turn again until everyone else has gone 3 times.
When Yuna tells Tidus to whistle and she'll come running is powerful stuff man. I love that scene. It gets slated for the laughing part but I love it
Blitzball gets you Wakka's second overdrive ability, and much later, is part of activating his Ultimate Weapon - other than that it can get you some interesting little extras to use on the Sphere Grid (like the Unlocking Spheres, the Spheres that create Nodes & some teleport Spheres that let you reposition characters on the Grid.
Blitz stadium scene with the fiends was so cool with Auron one-shotting the lizard thing.
That first blitz match is like the first bosses you meet in some Souls games. It's possible to win the first match, but mostly they're there to give you a goal to reach for. REVENGE!
That mug is wild lmao. Having a great time watching your playthrough, Kasta
Enjoying your playthrough of my favorite game ever ❤
Kasta, keep in mind the "extract" skills (ability, power, etc.) do not deal extra damage or anything, they just make the enemy drop an ability/power/etc. sphere for your sphere grid to activate nodes when defeated. I recommend you to read every single battle command and skill description in the help bar (upper part of the battle UI) whenever your cursor selects them to learn and enjoy the battles even more.
Living for your FFX journey, thanks for bringing it to us 🎉
Edit after watching it all:
Forgot to tell you, you can also read abilities function inside the Abilities command (main menu)
Aaand yes, the first blitzball game usually results in a massacre 😅 just a couple pieces of advice: don't bother changing formations, and most importantly: the main issue you had during the game was making rival players gather together to tackle you.
That and the Aurochs really do suck. Jassu and Letty are okayish but the rest are just hopeless
The real trick is to score one goal and then hang out in your own goal with the ball without moving. The AI doesn’t know what to do and just lets you sit there.
2:11:35
Holy shit, she blew me away getting that in advance 😮🙏🏾🔥
I would definitely recommend giving blitzball a chance. It really becomes fun once you start getting better players on your team. Like Nimrook the goalie for the al bhed psyches.
that blitzball tournament is winnable. you dont need to wait until your surrounded to finally do an action like pass or shoot.
Wait she finally figured out the weapon/armor thing hooray lol
Given her track record with fort condor in rebirth, it's amazing she managed it :)
Now for her to figure out the Extract X ability lol
😆😆
Thank you for doing this series! I really look forward to each episode!
That laughing scene is the best!!!
Kasta you're the best.

I love how genuine this gameplay is, looking forward to keep watching. One of the greatest game ever made.

remember when you get swallowed by sin in zanarkand, theres that sort of dream where tidus can hear his father;
"hey... HEY!"
FF7 remake had Queens Blood, X had Blitzball. You could spend hours in the sphere as the game develops.
I load up FFX just to play Blitzball with my lvl 99 team. My favorite mini-game ever from a FF!
I need you to play Blitzball on my game. lol I can't stand Blitzball. I always play enough to get the attack reels for Wakka, and that's about it. I've never gotten his celestial weapon.
@@cameronforte9861 oh for sure I got you. I play well past getting the sigil.
I used to do the same with my level 99 team too but at high levels with the right team the game is so broken and kind of boring. I chose an all round character as my mid fielder and they had high enough stats to just rush the goal, break all 5 opponents and score. No passes or strats needed. 13 - 0 easy.
@@Loroths using an all girls team lvl 99 is fun! I have so many save files with different teams. I love it
Losing in Blitzball at this point is to be expected.
Maybe yourself, i dont know right now either without looking it up, sorry.)
That was what Auron meant there "you must have felt him when you came into contact with Sin". So yes... you could have had a Thought in this Direction but like most ppl (at least me back then) i just thought he dreamed about his Father because... he does have strong Feelings towards him (Hates him so much).
It's an awesome Tuesday afternoon with FFX: International
enjoying the interesting characters, you and Ginger have an
enjoyable rest of the week thanks Kasta.🥛💓🐈:)
the rewards for winning tournaments is AMAZING, which also includes wakka's ultimate weapon.
The blitzball match isn't too bad once you know some of the tricks to it, but yeah, on a first playthrough you never feel prepared!
I did get a 5-1 win once and I think Tidus does like a goofy dance after a certain number of goals during the match.
Blitzball! Welcome to the greatest mini game ever made or your worst nightmare
So close to 100k! Let’s go!!
Don't worry this first blitzball match is crazy hard to beat. The Luca Goers are really tough to beat at this point in the game.
Cheer resets after every battle. you can use Cheer up to 5 times per battle to increase attack and defense.

"And that, as they say, is that" 😉
An episode or two ago: "No more goofs!"
This episode: "Maestro!"
Anyway, Maesters are religious leaders. The religious structure is similar to the Catholic church. Maesters are effectively cardinals and one is the Pope.
One of the best character in all of the FF series has finally joined the team. 8)
FFX characters interaction within the team is super good, one of the best in the series with FFVII Remake/Rebirth in how deep and developed it gets.
• Learn Jecht shot on boat
• Use Jecht shot to score
