  • Are you feeling burned out from your pharmacy job and questioning whether it's the right career for you? You're not alone. As a former full time employed pharmacist, I understand the stress and pressure that comes with the job. But is quitting pharmacy the only solution?
In this video, I share my experience as a Locum pharmacist and the challenges that my fellow community pharmacists face, including inadequate staffing, lack of support, and the never-ending workload. But instead of giving up, I encourage you to take a step back and evaluate what's important to you.
But if you try to make improvements in your current job and nothing changes, then it’s time to consider other alternative options. Remember, putting the oxygen mask on yourself first is essential before caring for others.
But how do you find your dream job? It's different for everyone, and it's important to identify what you're passionate about and what makes you feel supported and healthy. Journaling can help track your energy levels and identify tasks that drain your energy.
Investing in rare and valuable skills is essential for personal and professional growth. And thanks to the internet, resources for learning new skills are abundant. Take time to reflect on what makes you feel good and find work that feels like play.
If you're feeling lost in your pharmacy career, this video is for you. Press like to support the UA-cam algorithm and help me share this message with others. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you in the next video.

Dr. Pham, thank you so much for sharing! I am currently considering pharmacy school at age 30 YIKES but I am becoming more and more skeptical because as I do research I keep seeing re-occuring themes which revolve around burnout. On the flip side, I have spoken with a few pharmacists that seem EXTREMELY happy with their work environment and work load. I obviously have no experience being a pharmacist but it sounds like you've worked in a variety of settings but you just havent found that perfect one yet, keep trying! There are so many areas of pharmacy and to be honest... I've worked quite a few different jobs outside of the health field and one of the things that make a huge difference other than work load is working in a healthy work environment (working with nice/caring people). You need to have a good support system/group in the workplace. But whether you decide to pursue something else or stick with pharmacy, YOU GOT THIS!

Pharmacy isn't good for people who don't want to work in challenging environments. Those who want easy work and lazy aren't suited for this tough and challenging but rewarding profession. Some one need to be so humane and hold social values to be a responsible pharmacist or pharmaceutical chemist.
