Stumbled across this video, more or less, thanks UA-cam. Am 60 yrs old, started riding dirtbikes when I was 10 and have spent the majority of my adult life riding offroad, have not tried adventure riding, but it definitely interests me, maybe someday. Born and raised, and still live in Lewiston, have traveled these roads many, many times, would definitely be fun on a motorcycle, so many great places to ride in the northwest. As someone else mentioned, the ride from the LC Valley to Enterprise, Ore and beyond would be another. Nice video, thank you.
I could have spent much longer here, and will definitely come back to ride again. In particular, I want to ride the Idado BDR (Backcountry Discovery Route) on my Honda CRF250L.
So enjoying your channel after having found you searching for information on Porpoise Bay. This journey looks to be quite fantastic and I very much look forward to seeing more. Love that I get to ride on the handle bars. And see the big skies that look like paintings.
The Grapevine Hill was in California, going through the hills between LA and the central valley. Mostly covered by interstate 5 now. The Spiral highway has always been the Spiral Highway, at least for all of my 68 years and beyond. It's a lot of fun at 110 in the right car. Up or down. lol. You just have to remember there are no good guardrails anywhere on it. In the approximate middle of it there is a small artesian well where you could get water for your car, or you. There's also a kind of not-so-secret pet cemetary there too. Great hill.
You are correct! But Wikipedia says Ryan changed the lyrics to Grapevine Hill later on, to better fit with the song, and the original was based on the Spiral Highway. Either way, a great old song and an incredible road.
Agreed, both the Spiral Highway and Hwy 12 are amazing routes! Being able to travel those gravel side roads is the advantage of a bike like the Vstrom 650. I'm not at the level to take my 04 Goldwing there, just yet. The only contact I had with the CMA was at the Motorcycle show in Abbotsford several years ago and they seemed like really caring folk. Looking forward to Season 2!
Excellent video. Omg brought back some fond memories. I’ve been there done that a dozen times. I wasn’t sure if you were aware that from Clarkston WA to Enterprise OR is an incredible road that follows the snake river canyon. Just my favourite.
Should have mentioned that I lived in Calgary from 1999 to 2017. During that time I literally explored all of Montana, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, Wyoming etc. PCH.
You might enjoy my earlier videos on a trip from BC to Arizona (and back). Probably covers a lot of places you are familiar with! ua-cam.com/play/PLDqs05UED6E6b7dZmNVPvBXlpYU8zxFB3.html
It would vary based upon how many spots I wanted to stop and explore off-bike. I probably averaged something like 600-700 km or 375-440 miles a day (there were a few days I didn't ride at all, excluded from any calculations). Just remember, this was a riding trip - I'd probably average more like 350 km a day on a more typical tourist trip. Two months is a long time for a trip, but America is a very big place. You'll have to pick a bit what to see and what to miss if it doesn't fit in. You'll find lots of ideas in this video series! :-) New Zealand is somewhere I'll get to but haven't been yet. Hope your journey is epic!
@MotoVenturer you would love the roads her in New Zealand and yes we are planning atvthe moment where we want to visit cheers for the reply mate yours Gary

@MotoVenturer had a '04 CRF250X, was a really fun trail bike.

Porpoise Bay was splendid and I hope you found my video there useful. This trip around America was truly epic. Glad to have you along for the journey!
@@MotoVenturerThe Sunshine Coast will be our next road trip, hoping to snag a campsite at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park.
I love that feeling too.
Amazing video. Subscribed

V-Strom is super versatile and allows me to get (into then) out of trouble! I met more of the CMA in Arkansas later in the trip. Cheers!
I'm about to buy a 2009 v strom 650. I'll have to check out that road some day. It's a day's ride there for me, I think. Cheers!
You won't regret the bike or the ride - both are excellent

It's been mentioned a few times to me and is on my list of "to dos" now. Not done it yet!
Nice escarpment.
I visited the spiral a few years ago. We went up and down multiple times. Amazing road and view.
Yeah, why not? I enjoyed both directions and you might only get there once! :-)
Stayed at Deyo Reservoir just outside of Orofino Idaho last year before going over Lolo pass. Nice campsite run by the power company.
Had to look up the Deyo Reservoir but the photos there look wonderful. Perhaps next time!
@@MotoVenturer The switchbacks climbing up from highway 12 are wonderful

👍✊
Great video! Wondering what you use for your microphone on the trip and also for the voice overs. Keep it up on the trip be safe 👍
Thank you! I have the media mod for my GoPro without external mics (I'm learning about and investing in external mics for the future).
