Motorcycle travel tells you a lot about yourself, especially when weather makes every mile a little bit tougher than the one before. I personally detest riding in the rain, but when you've got a place you need to be, and the only way to get there is your bike, you do what you have to do. That being said, nothing helps you assess the issues you have with your bike and gear faster than an all-day ride in bad weather. In the end tho, I've found even the very best gear will eventually be found to have an issue or two when faced with an all-day downpour, and at that point, you find out of you're a fair-weather rider or a true motorcycle adventurer. Knowing what you want, and being flexable in your route and timing make all the difference, and it's only when things get tough on the road do you learn how to plan your next trip with this knowlege in mind.
Thanks for taking us along. Those of us suffering from PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome) will have to get by on our memories of last year's trips and vicariously through yours. Thanks again.
Amanda dancing around her bike in a video with brother, or running around with the tent fly behind her like she's wonder woman 14:32 it just puts a big smile on my face. Never stop being fun, silly and joyful Amanda!
I was born and raised in N/E Ohio (in Stow) but moved out of state 50+ years ago. Lots of family still in the area. Lots of history around there. It would be worth coming back and spend time exploring the area. Ride safe.
Option #3 please - I like all critters. If I had to choose between cats and dogs I chose cats. They are independent and I like that. They call the shots, I can relate. Dogs are lovable and I like that too. As always, your vid is wonderful. All that rain and I love how you embraced the positives of riding in the rain.
I really appreciate you filming the actual setting up and tearing down of camp. I overthink a lot which steals time from enjoying stuff. You going through the motions and especially the drying gear part was great.
Hi Amanda. For truly waterproof gloves I use kayaking gloves. A pair stays in my panniers for those occasions. A bit hard to put on, especially with wet hands, and not well insulated so the backs of your hands may feel cold, but the heated grips alleviate some of that cold. Safe travels.
Speaking as a Pa resident, you can register a plate to your ezpass so you dont need the little thing mounted, it’s super nice if you need it. Mostly animal in general, but that little fuzzy orange kitty neeeeds snuggles 😻.
Man, you're such a trooper. I've been pushing to do more Motocamping on my trips, and I can't imagine having to pack all that stuff up fully wet in the rain, let alone riding for hours afterwards... And then you FILM IT!!! That's over-and-above work... I'm definitely going to have to start considering HipCamp! I've been seeing some great sites out there from it. KOA cabins will get a second look as well. We love MotoCamp Nerd. I'm enjoying this latest clump of vids! Once again, as usual... A lovely, lovely video filled with amazing images and ambience. I've been really drawn to your editorial and editing style since the very beginning, and they've just been getting subtly better over the years. I aspire to be as fluid and compelling-yet-relaxing in my own work. We have lizards. Never thought we'd be enamored by scaly things, but they're adorable, affectionate little creatures in their own right... Just have to get to know them.
I really don’t mind riding in the rain so much. We took a trip into the Ozarks last fall and it rained almost the whole time. Really broke the fear of riding in the wet for me.
Amanda. I’m a 70yr old fart. But I love your relaxed style and positive outlook. I recognise there must be tough times you go thru but you font dwell on them. Thanks for letting us ride with you. Regards. Adrian.
I appreciate your comments about riding in the rain. I think getting out on a rainy day on two wheels, moto or bicycle, is a great thing to do.. It's a little less convenient to do when you're on a tour, but you get through it and like you do, find the silver lining. Ride on!
Thank you for your Buffalo comments. We have wonderful gems within the city, and throughout the region. Next time you visit, please reach out, I would be happy to show you those gems, Frank L, Wright sites, Sullivan office building, a bank designed by world trade center creator and a park system by Olmstead, who created central park in NY city. And so much more to share. Be safe out there.
I traveled through New England in the summer of 2023 and the toll situation was frustrating because it seems antiquated and inconvenient to have to stop and pay cash. I appreciated the toll roads that simply scanned my license plate and sent me a bill. I used to think I was a dog person, but then we got a kitten a few months ago for my son. I guess I’m just an animal person. However, because I made a big deal about not wanting a cat, I can’t admit to my wife and kids that I kind of like the cat.
Dang, you are hard core. I envy you're adventurous spirit. I'm watching closely how you deal with everything nature brings! I have over 100k miles on my bike just by local rides everyday, but havent ventured more than 600 miles away.......YET! Your videos inspire me..
sucks about the poor weather in Michigan. I like the Holland and Saugatuck area, there is also a good car/motorcycle museum called the Gilmore museum in that area.
I ride an e-bike so it hardly compares, but I just gotta say I really enjoy your video’s. I think you’ve got such a calm, pleasant aura about you. I’m guessing a little due to not having a job you’re tied to like a ball & chain. Keep livin’ the dream, girl! I wish I would have known when you came thru Ohio. I’m near Cleveland…
@9:45 ahhh dry and sunny... @14:30 I've missed the dance. End screen: DEFINITELY a dog person. I'm friendly/respectful to all animals but I am leery of cats and horses for good reason. I do think they are beautiful, I will give pets and pleasing scratches but dogs are just the clear favorite.
THE RAIN omg!! but I'm super excited to see you travel through my backyard (new england!) as part of this - love watching your videos, inspires me to plan more road/camping trips in the future :) I'm on a similar mission to finish the lower 48 but it's mostly the middle/middle west/west states I need to finish (colorado, utah, idaho, montana, dakotas, kansas, etc..)
There is nothing to help you find any weaknesses in your set up like inclement weather. While none of us like it, it should be a mandatory par of your riding. I purposely subjected myself to a hard downpour on my last trip. Not because I liked riding in it. But because sooner or later you will have to do it not by choice. I found a gap had opened in the seam of my riding boot that proved to soak me to the skin of my foot. It sucked. But I was happy to have found out voluntarily. I also found out just how dry you can stay based on your speed and gear adjustments. Whether you know it or not Amanda, you do inspire.
Rain is part of adventure riding but, when I am home and it's raining I stay in. Let's face it rain makes it hard and cold. Now at 63 of age cold has become the enemy to my bones. Decreases my mobility to the point it can be unsafe for me to ride. That said, my most cherished Memorie was at Devils Tower KOA, back in September of 21, it was lightly raining but I watched Close Encounters on their outdoor TV. I do not have the words to express how beyond awesome that experience was. Animal person here. We always have had dogs with us, some cats, tropical fish, horses and mules. They are family members not owned by us.
Nice to see some of my old stomping grounds along your ride. Spent a lot of time in that area of Adrian and roads east from there. Definitely come back and experience what Michigan has to offer. The west coast up towards Traverse City is a great ride. You can't go wrong with anything on the Upper Peninsula, my preference is the Copper Harbor area. I know the chances are small, but if you find yourself in the area around Frankenmuth Michigan and need anything, please feel free to reach out. Safe travels
Great video! Those spring rolls looked delicious. I can’t wait to try making my own. I looked through your description, but I couldn’t find what handlebar muffs you're using.
@AstheMagpieFlies Thank you, Amanda! I just found your videos, and I love your content. Those look like they'd be great up here in the PNW. Highs have been in the low 40's lately. I'm looking forward to more of your content!
I just found your channel. Pretty cool seeing you camping most of the way. I'm looking at getting a park pass to camp at all of the state and federal parks. Stay safe
Ez pass works through the east coast and all the way through Illinois. Virtually everywhere there are tolls in the northern states. I used an Illinois Ipass to travel everywhere east.
Living my dream!! Just traded my mt10 in for a dr650. Mt was nice just electrical probs I don't need, so I got an OG reliable machine. Love to chat. B safe and if you ever want a travel partner.... Or a day. Have fun if your still in road and b in peace
Thank you, Amanda for this amazing episode, I am part of the end screen crew so your answer would be. I’m a dog person. I have a dog. He’s two years old. He’s an Alaskan malemute beautiful temperament loves dogs. I’m not a cat person, though. I’m allergic to cats, but that ride adventureso beautiful love your adventure. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m looking forward to your next video.
We are animal people! We have a couple birds, a dog, and a tortoise at present. We love cats as well but I am really allergic to long hair cats. I aspire to getting a miniature highland cow when I retire along with some goats for the property. We've had goats, rabbits, gerbils and even hermit crabs in the past. Basically, if it is in need of a home, we have had it!
Animal person! I've got a cat, a dog, and 18 chickens. Great video! I don't much like riding in the rain, but I'll have to agree that the worst part is the whole putting gloves on wet hands thing. The right gear can usually keep you from getting wet but eventually you end up taking gloves off for fuel or food and putting them back on is infuriating
Cat person 100% I won't disrespect your dog but they just are not my favorite. I go up to Seattle from time to time and they have some toll bridges and some weird toll lanes that I don't understand really but if you go on a toll bridge they just send you a bill basically and you pay it. I works for me. I have also figured out how to program AVOID toll roads into my phone when I go to Florida for the weirdo campout which helps me avoid the tolls and the rental company grift for their convenience fee to avoid the tolls :)
Yup - I can identify with at least two annoyances: Trying to put wet hands into motorcycle gloves can truly be a pain. Aren't any of the gear manufacturers capable of making liners that don't bunch up and stick to one's skin? Maybe that's an opportunity to do an extensive review on cold-weather, water-proof gloves. 🙂 I can also identify with trying to get to sleep in a motel room. Sometimes the accommodations don't feature the most comfy of beds, and the noises from other moteling clients have kept me awake or awakened me in the wee hours. Normally I'm up late downloading megabytes to gigabytes worth of video clips and organizing files from different cameras. However, on a trip like that one, a hot shower and a decent meal can revive the will to ride on! LOL
Great video. In your gear description you link Forma boots. But, I swore your boots were using the BOA system. LOL, am I smoking crack? Forma does not seem to offer that system. Thanks and Happy New Year
Greasy spoon restaurants with waitresses who call you “hon” and really mean it are the best. I do so love your videos, Amanda 😎 Also, I’ve mostly been a dog person all my life, but I really do love all animals 😎
Awesome video! I have a quick question. When you stay at a hotel, so you do anything to your bike to prevent theft in the parking lot, or is that not an issue?
Disk Lock and I lock the forks, I tend to take everything in with me out of the bags no matter where I'm staying tent, hotel or cabin, but also because I need everything I pack 😂
If I had known you were in the area, in the rain I would have offered you shelter! I live about 30 miles south of Adrian, MI. Then I saw that you took Route 2 when you got into Ohio and you had been like 5 miles away. Next time you are welcome to stop if you need a free place to crash.
Animal person!! Interesting about the toll roads and EZ pass. I wonder where you'd mount it if you didn't have a windscreen? 🤔Something else to research! Plans are in motion to fly to New England area early next fall, buy a motorcycle and ride it home. The bike models I'm considering may not have a windscreen.
Lived and road in Boston for a few years - I kept the ezpass transponder in the map pouch of my tank bag. Worked fine, but of course you’d need to figure out a tank bag on the new bike. The ezpass readers are mounted rather high, so generally anything facing up or forward should work, so maybe a tail bag would also work.
Motorcycle travel tells you a lot about yourself, especially when weather makes every mile a little bit tougher than the one before. I personally detest riding in the rain, but when you've got a place you need to be, and the only way to get there is your bike, you do what you have to do. What a very nice ride. Sorry you didn't have more sunshine. Enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing, Amanda. RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
I love your videos Amanda, so relaxing and scenic, and great music. Keep up the great work!
The cat resting on the bike seat is classic. My cat loves to lay on my bike seat and wait for me to come out and get on the bike. Great video Amanda!

Grand Island KOA is way cool, Niagra Falls is worth the visit🙂
Hello new to your channel, nice to see a vid with my home area in it ( leg between Adrian and Sandusky) thanks for taking us with you on your trip.
Great video. Thank you very well, done as always..
I love this video Amanda!!!! Thank you again!!!! I adore you and the way you present your videos!!!! Hope to see you on the road someday!!!! 😊❤
Thanks!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Thank you very much for your support!
Rain always makes it interesting on a scoot. Be safe on the road. Great video nice camping spot.
Your wonderful videos are helping me get through the long, cold winter, while my bike hibernates, waiting for the snow to melt. Also, animal person.
Enjoyed your video thanks for posting 👍
Thanks for the video. Enjoy the way you travel❤❤❤
Always appreciate a rain fly dance. Cats are a bonus! 😻😻😻

So great to see your face! Subscribed and liked. Great work Amanda
Thanks so much for subscribing, I'm so glad you're enjoying it!
You are very descriptive when you narrate your video. You draw pictures with your words, bringing us along on your journey. Excellent Cool 😎
sucks about the poor weather in Michigan. I like the Holland and Saugatuck area, there is also a good car/motorcycle museum called the Gilmore museum in that area.
Amanda is cool!
Getting a hotel once in a while is smart….travel safe.👍
That “hill” that didn’t look like a hill on camera was a BIG HILL! 😅
I ride an e-bike so it hardly compares, but I just gotta say I really enjoy your video’s. I think you’ve got such a calm, pleasant aura about you. Lentil chili! Grabbed your cook book to look up the recipe - looks yummy
Yay 😊 thank you so much, I hope you like it as much as me!
This one was wonderful. 😊 The cat footage was fun. You have a way of reminding me to be grateful that I can motocamp/mototravel. Thank you!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Blueberry pie is my favorite 😍
very nice adventure!
Thank you! 😃
@ I did something like you’re doing now last year … but in a Jeep! Would love to do that on a bike (i think?)
Like the ifea of including prices of stays! Very helpful. New subsciber.😊
Love your video so far

Hi Amanda! It might help some of us to mention what season you are in for the video so we are less concerned for your well being.😉
Leaves on the trees suggest early autumn. You must be much like me, … a worry wort parent.
The date is in the corner of the maps above my mileage 👌 ☺️
(Also the first episode in the series did say when I started the trip)
@@AstheMagpieFlies Missed it. :) Have a Happy New Year!
I'm Excited Jersey, it looks like you went right past my town, which is cool!
Medicine. And your statement about ridding in the rain was so true. Shoutout from westmonroe la.
Happy New Year from Sweden❤😊
Happy new year!!
Oh there she goes at 11:45 Amanda does her Betty White impression lol 😉
Rain is part of adventure riding but, when I am home and it's raining I stay in. Let's face it rain makes it hard and cold.
Now at 63 of age cold has become the enemy to my bones. Decreases my mobility to the point it can be unsafe for me to ride.
That said, my most cherished Memorie was at Devils Tower KOA, back in September of 21, it was lightly raining but I watched Close Encounters on their outdoor TV.
Thunder and lightning started halfway through the movie and the remainder of the night flashing behind and all-around Devils Tower.
I do not have the words to express how beyond awesome that experience was.
Animal person here. We always have had dogs with us, some cats, tropical fish, horses and mules. They are family members not owned by us.
wow, is raining there too .... we in Malaysia also heavy rain and flood is happening too. Ride safe

That view of downtown Cleveland from Edgewater Park is pretty stunning isn't it?
Animal person, dog lover, cat tolerator. Great video. You traveled through my part of Ohio. If you did this in the spring, yup, rain.
Great video! Those spring rolls looked delicious. I can’t wait to try making my own. I looked through your description, but I couldn’t find what handlebar muffs you're using.
I saw at one side of those muffs, after zooming in, a label with 'Hippo hands' on it, hope you can find what you need 😀
@mademoisellekaya1438 Thanks for the help.
They are called Hipphands I thought I had a link for them in the description 😅 but I'll fix it! They're life savers!
Stay safe
New subscriber, great relaxing informative video 😊
Thanks so much! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Ez pass works through the east coast and all the way through Illinois. Virtually everywhere there are tolls in the northern states. I used an Illinois Ipass to travel everywhere east.
You camped in Portage County! I’m from Suffield, the lower west corner township of the county. But I left there in 1981.
Grew up in the western NY area. You took the skyway bridge which is crazy up in the air.
Living my dream!! Just traded my mt10 in for a dr650. Mt was nice just electrical probs I don't need, so I got an OG reliable machine. Love to chat. B safe and if you ever want a travel partner.... Or a day. Have fun if your still in road and b in peace
The kitties 😍🥰🐈
Thank you, Amanda for this amazing episode, I am part of the end screen crew so your answer would be. I’m a dog person. I have a dog. He’s two years old. He’s an Alaskan malemute beautiful temperament loves dogs. I’m not a cat person, though. I’m allergic to cats, but that ride adventureso beautiful love your adventure. Thank you so much for sharing. There is indeed something about riding in the rain when you have tour gear on and are largely immune to it. Welcome to Ohio :)
It’s such a unique feeling! Thanks for the welcome. 😊
Totally an animal person. Great video, even though I'm sure the weather was "marginal" for a lot of the riding. Thanks Amanda!
Howdy ma’am.
We are animal people! We have a couple birds, a dog, and a tortoise at present. We love cats as well but I am really allergic to long hair cats. Dog person here - cats not so much - although we do feed a stand-of stray - which our new puppy is very curious off!
Setting out in the rain sucks, but it builds character! 😂
💯
animal lover, option 3 please.
You are fantastique.
Dogs, horses and a beloved barn cat! Does that make me an animal person? :)
Cat person 100% I won't disrespect your dog but they just are not my favorite. All animals (except I'm allergic to cats... don't tell the cats. I just enjoy them from afar.)
Awesome video!

@ thank you for the info! 😊
Hey , if you are passing through Long Island New Your, I can join you on a ride, also got some spots you can Camp or chill
trees still with green leaves. back in early fall?
Dates are on the maps above the mileage 👌
Dish gloves would help in a pinch and it looks like you have small hands so gloves my size would probably fit over your normal ones
how i wish i can do this kind of trip on a motorcycle 😣🥺🥺
