Talking About Alopecia

  • The incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock was truly unfortunate and awful - but it did bring up an important health issue (besides the behaviors of the men involved) which is the health condition Jada is battling, Alopecia.
There are multiple types of alopecia (hair loss). The most common type is androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness) which is genetic. There is also tension/traction alopecia from pressure on the hair root from tight hairstyles, relaxers, damage from hair coloring and styling.
There are also multiple types of scarring alopecia types. Also, a reactive alopecia from severe stress to the body (physical and/or emotional) that can cause hair loss (effluvium telogen).
Stress can also worsen inflammatory or autoimmune alopecia known as alopecia areata, which is reportedly what Jada Pinkett Smith has been suffering from since 2018. People with lupus, Sjogrens, MS and other autoimmune diseases also often have hair loss as a symptom as well.
This is what I am discussing in the video - specifically inflammatory/autoimmune hair loss.
Thankfully I have gotten to help many people with hair loss regrow their hair by eliminating the inflammation and autoimmune diseases. While scar tissue will prevent regrowth, any area that is inflamed but not yet scarred can and will experience re-growth.
There is a lot you can do. Nourish your spirit and be kind and loving to yourself. Jada is a great role model for this. Heal emotional traumas, anxiety, and depression. AND HYPER-NOURISH your body to accelerate cellular repair and optimal health. To learn more about hyper-nourishment and get free recipes and resources, click link: linktr.ee/goodbyelupus

I have so much respect for you for taking about this very sensitive subject, for your kind words about Jada, and for your help and advice on taking care of our health. You have helped so many of us. Thank you Dr. Goldner. 😥

Thank you for this video! My wife has met many women with this condition. I don't know if they have tried what you've mentioned here. It's hard to find a physician who would recommend such, and it's hard for those suffering hair loss to give up what may be causing the inflammation. 💚

Hi Dr. I want to mention that I appreciate all the information you have provided about hyper nourishment and your smoothie recipes. I will say that consuming protein is VERY important. You had mentioned in one of your videos that our plates should be all vegetables with very little beans or quinoa. I took your advise and after 4 months, I got really sick. I got some labs done and my protein levels were so low. I do believe in your smoothies and hyper-nourshing, however, it's not a well balanced diet. Excessive fiber ruins your gut, and "little" protein makes you sick.

Thank you for sharing I too feel the same My weight dropped from 48 to 42 in three months and though I feel great I feel this smoothie is good with additional nourishment that has all food groups I’m vegan so it’s a struggle to not lose more weight I Dr Goldberg’s biggest fans but we need protein too in our diet All the best

Why are steroids prescribed for everything?? Doesn't it reduce our immune systems?! What do they do really?

I am so mad that everyone is focusing on the slap and not the joke over hairloss. I want to yell at the TV to the women chiming in. I want them all experience total hairloss and people make jokes at their expense. I have androgenic alopecia which can't be changed. It's time to stop thinking bald women are not beautiful! What's inside is what counts.

Get over yourself, KAREN! The general public's never said, "Bald isn't beautiful!"

It wasn't Chris Rock's issue to become acquainted w/ Jada Smith's medical conditions! He's a professional comedian and can joke if he wants to! (In fact, it was his job that night!) Her condition wasn't something he knew about, and the joke wasn't even vicious in the slightest! Will Smith just lacked class. Another "black-on-black crime" even though he "had it all!" Will's a criminal who should be prosecuted.

Stupid reason to lash out in violence against another person. Absolutely unacceptable. Men deal with alopecia more than women do and no violence happens over it. Will smith and jada are not immune from jokes or being offended, they are not above it. They could’ve dealt with it in a more productive and respectful way rather than hitting someone. They’re not victims of anything. I find it amazing how people are running to their defense and forgetting about the real victim in this crime, Chi’s Rock.

I agree. Violence is never the right way to respond to anything. I feel they both played a part in this. Will should never put his hands on anyone. No one should. And Chris, as a black man, knows how deep and hurtful jokes about black women's hair goes. He even did a 2009 movie on the subject because his own daughter had issues with her black hair in this society. Add to it, whether he knew about the medical condition or not, coming from a black man, you don't joke about a black womans hair. If he joked about a handicapped person, everyone would have been up in arm's but pick on a black woman, with a medical condition and her hair, then that's ok. As black women we get this every day from everyone, from other men and women, and it's frustrating and tiring. He's joked about her shaved head before so he knew what he was doing. Hopefully they both learn a lesson from this.

@@FruitIsLove2 I don’t need a copious amount of justification over why Smith assaulted another man. These people are adults.
Chris is the victim of a crime. He is the one that got physically assaulted for making a joke (however lame it was to Jada and Will). The academy failed miserably to protect Chris. I hope he sues them for that. There is no excusing smith’s behavior regardless of jada’s feelings on it. Why is jada some how exempted from being made fun of? Not even our politicians have that luxury. She’s not a delicate precious flower. GI Jane character with her shaved head is supposed to be the empowerment of woman power. Jada is beautiful enough and has the bone structure to carry that style. she’s lucky. Will smith though reacted to her silly projection and acted out in a very dangerous unstable way toward another human being. There’s plenty of non violent ways he could’ve dealt with that issue. But we all know he is dealing with an open marriage that he is bitter, hurt and frustrated about. He should be charged for assault and stripped of his reward, but instead he gets a standing ovation and gets to party afterward without a care in the world. That crying speech he made was fake AF. A lame hypocritical acceptance speech. Narcissism at its best.

@@sarashepard7504 Did I not say I agree with you. Go back and read my comment...There is never a good reason for violence. Will should have handled that better...I am a fan of both Will and Chris. I absolutely hate what happened....But since you missed it, let me repeat it...my point is, alot of people are not aware that for Jada and black women like myself, it's more than a just a joke, it's a way of life, every day, all day since birth. We are the only race who needed a law passed , The Crown Act, so we could be like everyone else and not get harrassed over our hair. The world needs more empathy and I appreciate Dr. Goldner's kindness on this subject. Period.
