Are you looking for an Industrial Automation job? And if so, in which functional area of automation, would you apply and use your talents and knowledge towards?
There are many automation job types for sure.
And it doesn’t mean if you pick a particular job you will stay with it throughout your career.
Like any other career, you will have career goals, and learn about job opportunities along the way. So, get your foot in the door of a good organization, learn and grow.
Industrial Automation job functions will range from starting out your career perhaps as an Instrument and Electrical Technician, and then more advanced skill sets are required for Programmable Logic Controller Programmers, Electrical and Controls design, and then into IT-related functions such as business and process control network segmenting, database management administration duties for database design, SQL scripting for regulatory report generation and historical data collection.
Some of the exciting and challenging jobs performed by Industrial Controls Automation professionals are:
    - Automation Product Manager
    - Automation Project Manager
    - Industrial Automation Sales Engineer
    - Automation Controls Engineer
    - Automation Application Engineer
    - Field Systems Engineer
    - PLC Programmer
    - Automation Technician
This rewarding industry is in great demand for automation professionals like you, so join in this session to help get the upper edge on your next interview meeting.
The Automation Technician: will provide routine diagnostic checks, repair and maintain instruments, electrical wiring, mechanical plumbing, and control systems. They are fluent in, and in some cases, have certified knowledge of electronics, mechanics and programmable logic controllers.
The Field Systems Engineer: will travel and provide on-site technical direction to customers, to engineering and operations departments, make field related adjustments to programming, complete installation, and commissioning of related automated equipment.
The Automation Engineer: will design, program, simulate and commission automated machines and plant-wide processes to perform many job functions. Depending on the size of the organization this engineer will perform some or all of these responsibilities.
The Industrial Automation Sales Engineer: will be able to perform all of the duties of an Automation Engineer, and in many cases, the Field Systems Engineer and Technician. Just as important they will have the skill sets to effectively develop and execute sales of automation solutions.
So, what can you earn as an Automation professional? Of course, this varies on where you live, but according to our most recent research, the salary compensation for the United States and Germany, for example, are on the average of $90,400 a year and 81.000 € per year respectively.
The average salary of an Automation Engineer is $90,411 per year in the United States.
The typical tenure for an Automation Engineer is 1-3 years.
The average automation engineer salary in Germany is 80.967 € or an equivalent hourly rate of 39 €. In addition, they earn an average bonus of 3.101 €.
Salary estimates based on salary survey data collected directly from employers and anonymous employees in Germany.
The job description and degree of responsibilities vary and so you should align your capabilities with the experience required. Get your foot in the door and prove yourself to get the next level of experience, this could happen very fast, so keep learning.
Now that we have learned about the Automation Job types let’s continue to learn more about some of the questions you’ll be asked during an interview, in our next video, “How to Prepare for the Job Interview Questions as an Automation Engineer?“.

Electronic control of tankless water heater: Use a PID? SSR vs SCR?
I have an 8KW Atmor tankless water heater that has two switched heating elements. I want to add stable electronic temperature control. But I can't find good information about the different options!
Seems the PID + SSR MAY have longer switching time, and that MAY reduce heating element life from thermal cycling vs a higher speed SCR. But I am having trouble finding the real answer.

    • @realpars
      @realpars  Рік тому

The best approach is to use an SCR with a controller made for that purpose (such as the Watlow DB-20: www.watlow.com/Products/Controllers/Power-Switching-Devices/DIN-A-MITE-B-Power-Controller ). The controller essentially eliminates cycling and allows for longer heater life. I have used these (and others) for years with great success with many different kinds of heaters. The short answer to your initial question is an SCR can switch at any phase angle of the AC power supply and can control the output voltage linearly. On the other hand, SSR is a switching element that only turns ON/OFF. The better control of an SCR prolongs heater life and eliminates cycling. The SSR approach is faster, but I would not use it due to the nature of the device to cause temperature cycling.

    • @mrtechie6810
      @mrtechie6810 Рік тому

      @@realpars
      1. The Watlow DB-20 appears to be the heater power control -- unclear what PID(?) Temperature Controller to use for this application to drive it.
      2. How to keep SCR from adding noise harmonics and phase error to the power system?
Should one look for a zero crossing type? On 50 Hz 230V BTW.
Appreciate your advice...having trouble finding answers online.

      Hi Babatunde,
Thank you for your question. You are making the right decision! Industrial Automation is a demanding field these days. And we have a shortage of personnel to fill the demands! First and foremost, if you have not signed up for the Pro membership with RealPars, you should do so. We are the site that offers easy-to-understand lessons that are up-to-date with experts that have done that and been there. I should know, having been in this field for 45 years with some of the major companies like Siemens and General Motors, to name a few. I highly recommend Mechatronic system learning programs. You will learn all the areas of study needed in this field. Not sure where you are in the world, but here is a link to help you get started. Happy learning!

      Hi,
Thanks for your comment! We currently only provide our course videos in English, you are always able to turn on the English subtitles as that might make it a bit easier for you.
