- After days of thinking and fiddling ... and more fiddling, and more thinking ... I have finally lit upon the tail light array that is my "overkill" solution for being seen by inattentive motorists. Do ya' think they'll see me now?!?!?!?!?!

Steve's current recumbent trike is a 2021 HP Velotechnik Scorpion fs26 Enduro, outfitted with Schwalbe Marathon PLUS road tires instead of the stock knobby off-road tires. He has also owned a 2015 ICE Full Fat off-road trike, a 2014 Catrike 700 speed trike, and a 2007 ICE Qnt trike ... not to mention three bikes (Specialized Roll Elite - Motobecane Night Train fat tire - Easy Racers Gold Rush recumbent)

Close encounters of the third kind
I like that old movie ... have it on DVD, and watch it every few years.
Love the lights. I also like the slow vehicle sign too 👀😃👍👍
Thanks Paula. I think a combination of lights and reflectors is the best option for cyclists. The reflectors may actually show up better during the daytime depending upon how the sunlight is hitting the reflectors. In bright light, they could be better than tail lights. At night, the combination of both is the best option for being seen. Tail lights do a great job when pedaling through shady areas during the day, probably better than reflectors in that situation.
steve
All done until the next idea in the middle of the night.😂
You are right about that ... I always have a "next" idea, haha.
steve
Well, you are visible Steve, that's for sure👍😊,
Ron.
The downside to all this is all the buttons I must push each time I want to turn them on or off, and this includes my flashing headlight in the front, ugh.
steve
Looking good!
Would be ever SO brighter YET, if car headlights were hitting the silver reflectors and the yellow triangles!!!
Those reflectors really do show up VERY well in the daytime or when car lights hit them at night. Lots of the time, the reflectors actually look like super bright lights, perhaps brighter than the tail lights themselves. Reflectors are very valuable to have!
steve
My thoughts are that reflectors ARE brightest over lights AT night!
Time for nighttime video!
@@EZSteve
@@garyseckel295 Reflectors are incredible at night for sure. I have ridden at night on my trips, and I can be seen much farther off than in the daytime. Tail lights are only so useful, but with the combination with lights, the cyclist is optimized for visibility under all circumstances, even in bright sunlight.

No such thing as overkill for those of us who enjoy being on this side of the grass!
I like that saying "on this side of the grass" ... yep, I love living, and prefer being on top of the grass rather than under it!

Blinded by the LIGHTS 🎶 🎵 song by the 70's rock and roll group Manfred Mann's Earth Band, should be playing.
😂😂😂.
Yeah, Id say It's a OVERKILL but... If you want to look like the disco floor in Saturday Night Live, be my guest.
Ah Ah Ah Ah...STAYING ALIVE..STAYING ALIVE! - BeeGee's.
Was going to say the same thing if i seen those lights i would switch lanes for sure lol
I want to see what they look like during the day time out on a ride. They actually might be too bright at night for drivers.
Hear that Steve? Do a short video clip of this setup on a day ride.
Steve, your rear light setup reminds me of a few years ago when I was on a local trail ride... A cyclist actually asked me if I was "The Trail Patrol"... 🤣🤣🤣

😁 😂
Now those songs are stuck my head, haha!
Perfect.. We don't have to remind people about free speech, you are not required to listen to anyone, you are just required to allow everyone to have an opinion...
likewise..With lights, no one is required to look at flashing lights, (or directly at the sun for that matter ..LOL).
you simply must allow cyclist to display safety lights.. cyclist have the right to a lane and to be seen. :). PEACE
Happily 99%+ of motorized vehicles over the past 15 years have given me plenty of respect and room on the road! Most drivers are quite understanding, and realize cyclists and pedestrians have rights just like they do.
steve
I fully approve of your high visibility 'overkill'. I see so much black on bikes, trikes, gear, and riders these days. Riding in all black is a death wish. I see bags with yellow, but the part facing overtaking traffic is BLACK! Are the manufactures trying to kill off their customers?
I have never understood why pannier manufacturers, like Ortlieb, have yellow sides, but make the back side that faces oncoming cars black! Yes indeed, that seems silly to me, and is one reason I really like these Lone Peak bags ... yellow to the rear! But black is "cool" in the minds of many cyclists, who go all black bags, clothing, you name it. It's great for hiding out in the backcountry, but not so much so for staying alive on the roads with cars (which is what most of us do most of the time)!
steve
I fully agree.....I probably will be doing business with Lone Peak. @@EZSteve
@@larryhoworth8407 Having used these bags now for a short while, I am very impressed with them! They are made of the same high quality material as the famous Arkel bags from Canada, but they are half the weight and half the purchase price, and they do not utilize Velcro like Arkel does. I do not care for Velcro, as it sticks to cloth that it touches, it holds water, and it wears out over time. I prefer these click buckles on the Lone Peak bags. So far, I cannot see any negative aspects of these panniers.

accelerometers activate brake lights.. :)
You are definitely the tech man Rob! Your trike setup, along with the trailer, is awesome. My knowledge is very limited when it comes to this stuff.
steve
@@EZSteve it all sounds very techie and involved until you are standing in front of it looking at it.. LOL Sometimes it takes just a minute seeing in action and you understand.. :) You are very intelligent, I think it would all be second nature once presented with how it works.
