Amazing work by one of musics' great geniuses. Busoni ranks with Mozart and Mendelssohn as an early blooming prodigy. Lovely
music. Needs no condescending comments by amateur "experts".

The general level of music theoretical knowledge was in those days much higher than it is now. Proof that a 12 year old could do all of these modulations. Nowadays most "professional" musicians don t understand harmonic theory.

No, Busoni was not of the general level. He was recognized as a child prodigy, recognized as unusual in his time and admitted to study at an advanced level at an age that was not typical for others at that time.
Busoni is not the result of people merely knowing more about theory in that time.

It's about temperament and a certain sensitivity and early understanding of music. He obviously already had great training, self-taught or otherwise, but it's mostly about superb musical sensibility and receptiveness, turned right back into his own creativity, (almost) unfiltered because it was so pure.

It's notable his lack of maturity in this concerto: The themes are exposed without nothing that could be taken a bridge from one to the other, the impetus for tell cuts the beautiful that his ideas want to express! There is no jealous feelings in my arguments. The fact that he was a pre adolescent in incursion of a magical world as the Major gender the classical music has is something of applaud. But that doesn't mean this work is for hype Busoni not for feel worthless as some kids here are expressing their frustrations because they don't compose j like Busoni. I would be more than happy of my composition style never gets closer to Busoni's own. Everyone needs to find the own light to shine!

Of course, with children it is difficult to assess what is the child's work and what their mentor/tutor/parent. They shall wish to "market" the child as a prodigy and keep their own role silent. There are numerous examples of this, and I suspect it may be the same here, seeing the circle of people around Busoni at the time.

This is Busoni's Piano Concerto for Strings at age 12. I also had composed Piano Concerto for Brass Band at age 16. My music was Japanese melody based and influenced from the activiies as a member of my school band and also influended from popular music in 1970'. His Concero is more classical and more complete and orthodox. He was originally a genius and well educated.

Especially the latter movement is clearly influenced by Mendelssohn. The Scherzo is under Beethoven's one. Former two reminds somehow Hummel, Cramer and Kalkbrenner although lesser virtuosistic and more intimately personal. Wonderful second movement with dialogue between piano and strings carried out with mastery.

It's Mozart if Mozart been raised in the Romantic era... heavy pedal usage, lots of ascending chord motifs, and a melody that gets obscured by just going with whatever the motif feels like doing. I like it. But prefer a clear longer melodic themes so it's something you can hum.
I forget the piece as soon as its done. It's not hum-able. And if you do, all it sounds like is going through harmonic chords.
The adagio is nice intro. But again it doesn't elaborate with a clear them. Like an intro that ends the piece before it really got a chance to start.
All music eras by all composers have made those pieces. They're probably really good for the composer to get ideas. But in short they're boring to listen to, or a let down.
Considering this guy was 12 when he wrote this, it's amazing.
