Unfortunately italian composers (Martucci, Bossi, Sgambati et cetera) are not well known, because for many people Italia = opera. An exception is Respighi, after 1800.

@@umegghju I mean yeah but martuci is seriously one of the most underrated. I think he is almost the level of mozart beethoven.

I think it’s more like they are left in the shadow of Brahms, Grieg, faure, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, etc.

A year ago I wrote, in Dutch, translated to English 'This concert is balm to ones ear and mind'. Today I realized The Wife and I are listening to Bartje Bartmans uploads for the last 4 days now. Amplifier on 8 scale of 10 which is just about a concerthall level. No nabours I should add. We all should be grateful to this person who is behind Bartje Bartmans.

Both Martucci's concerti are unforgettable . When I hear so many later Romantic Piano concertos they go in one ear and out the other thankfully DreyschockNo! The 5 Rubinstein concerti only Hofmann saves no. 4 because he makes everything golden but these Martucci are good all Moskowsky always lustrous ! 5 SaintSaens are wonderful more peope should play them Hough knows ! MacDowell and VanCliburn ! Forget Paderewski concerto only the great make it great heard a pianist with Warsaw Philharmonic live in concert and was so disappointed yet I heard a good recording . All of Scharwenka's concerti are priceless ! Very few others .Siloti? D'Albert No!

The last movement is pretty mind blowing and unique - I always try to orientate but the melodies and harmonies change so quickly, I don't even know which style or feeling the movement has. One particular passage is 35:11 - 35:23 - strange modulations and after a dominant A-flat he suddenly resolves to F flat??

the second movement is one of the most beautiful movements I've heard, and trust me I've heard sooo many and you can find my playlist of them. The start of 30:57 is timeless. The way it introduces the motif and then when you think it's over, it reiterates again with a more solemn tone 31:30 is soooooooo beautiful I still think the recording with the faster tempo there is better, play it with bass and all and all my..
