    Today we review the Phoenix 21 PHX, all part of the Great Bass Boat Search of 2020-21. This video series overall is titled Before You Buy a Bass Boat Watch this, in the series I walk you through me spending the day in a bunch of different boat brands and models through the fall of 2020 looking for my next boat. If you didn't see the first 12 videos you can go back and watch them first, (reviewed Bass Cat Puma Hybrid the boat with the Champion 203 style hull, a Charger 210 Elite, a Ranger 521C & 520L and a Caymas CX21 , a Vexus VX20 a Bullet 21 SDC, a Phoenix 921 a Blazer 650 Pro Tour).
    We do have the YoloTek discount code for 10-38% off different products, use code KENSMITH at bit.ly/kensmith...
    In part 2 we will score the boat 1-20 in 5 different categories, Fishability, Performance, Amenities, Fit & Finish and then a 5th catch all that includes feedback from friends that own them, trailer, options, feedback from fiberglass shops in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas asking them what they see as the best 3 boats, based upon construction, currently being built (since they see how we beat them up). And then we ask them which they see the most non-impact damage to the hulls with (least well built). Then for tournament anglers we include a 6th 20 point category looking to see who has the best contingency prize package available. Next up is a Phoenix!

    Your dead on about the batteries but the way to fix it is Trim Tabs..power tilt, jack plates do nothing for trim...but trim tabs work great

    You reviews keep getting better. For me, I like the previous Phoenix for speed and gunnel height for flipping. I fish shallow more than offshore. Phoenix makes a terrific boat! Thanks again Ken for the time, effort, and wonderful video comparisons.

    As others have said, this is really the best, and only sincere bass boat review on the web... I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. Great work! Every single entry only makes me more excited to test one of our boats. Thank you Ken, the industry absolutely needs this.

    Probably more batteries on that side to offset the weight of one fisherman, just a thought

    • @KenSmithFishing

      Definitely why most builders out TM batteries on port side

  • @johnwolff1043

    As for the battery placement, 3 on port and 1 on starboard. The good thing with this set up is that when running solely for top speeds it balances the boat and drives easier when running on the edge.

    The 3 batteries are on the passenger side so that when a single person in the boat and is driving the weight is more even when moving

    • @ronwallace7563
      @ronwallace7563 3 роки тому

      This was the same thought I had, however, that doesn't hold if you have two anglers in the boat. Also, you could distribute your tackle in such a manner go to offset the battery distribution. Just a consideration.

    Sending my compliments and thanks for these videos. Outstanding and well done. One comment about the battery weight, the extra weight is ideal to be located a little more on the passenger side because your body weight in the driver seat balances it out. In race cars you always weigh the car with driver in seat and out to properly balance the vehicle.

    So coming from a wakeboarding background, the reason you put more weight on the port side ie: batteries, rod locker etc is because a) the helm/driver sit on the stbd side and b) it counters the rotation of a standard right hand drive prop.

    BassCat Puma/Cougar have the batteries split on either side. 2 on port, 2 on starboard, just outside the center line of the boat along with the bulletproof aluminum battery trays. Remember, I'm partial to the BassCats. Triton has the same livewell mechanism. Plug at the bottom makes it easy. Leave it in and full them manually, then after pumpout, pull the plug to get rid of what little is remaining. I had a Triton back a coupe of boats ago.

    Good stuff Ken! I am a little biased towards the bird boats having owned a 721. If I can get out of the bay boat experiment I am in I will buy another Phoenix. In 7 years I had nothing but great service from them, why I sold it I do not know. If you see me up there sometime, kick me in the shin real hard and call me stupid. Best of luck on the search!

    Great video and a very nice ride! Love the trim switches up front as I have a basscat and would be hard to do without those. I use them when hung up really shallow near bank and when i step out of the boat at the ramp before pulling out of the water when solo if I didn’t trim up after putting on the trailer. Can’t wait for more!

    Not sure you can get a Phoenix with the remote drain plug. They drill a different size hole than the remote plugs. I put one in my 721 but it's not as simple as taking one out and putting the new one in.

    If all these boat manufacturers would do away with carpet in general and run a type of seadek from front to back it would be way better!

    • @KenSmithFishing
      @KenSmithFishing  3 роки тому

      I think we will find, in general, that 5-7 year old carpet looks better than 5-7 year old seadeck...that said hopefully the price of it will come down and somebody will make it where you can just pop sections out and replace. Maybe kinda of like what we see when you buy a new truck, you have carpet bu then you have floor liners you can button down over the carpet?

    It’s hard to beat a Phoenix , I know at this point in your boat search it will begin to have some confusion, but I am very happy your able to do this and answer a lot of questions , my guess on this boat is 2 points better than 921proxp. I came out of a 2017 ranger 521c and liked the boat a lot , so in my opinion if you can afford the Phx21 or the 921elite, it’s the go to boat when your coming out of a Ranger. I am loving my 921proxp.

    It’s a nice boat but not to impressed with it. The only thing that really stands out to me is the net storage and the trays in the access to the batteries. I do like some carpet in my storage but only in the small compartments up front. I will consider a Phoenix because I have a dealer 30 minutes from my house but it definitely won’t be this model. I do not like tall gunnels on a boat.

    • @KenSmithFishing
      @KenSmithFishing  3 роки тому +1

      Why do you like the carpet, what am I not thinking through?

    • @thechestnutking736
      @thechestnutking736 3 роки тому

      @@KenSmithFishing Ken what you say makes perfect sense. If it’s raining I don’t want carpet in my storage compartments that I may use while it’s raining and they need drains in them also but in some of my small compartments where I may store loose items I like the carpet myself. Maybe I could live without the carpet? Maybe it’s 30 years of having boats with carpet in the compartments lol? I guess what may be best is ordering a boat with no carpet inside and then if I want to add some here and there just do it myself.
