    That was a brilliant video! You must be telepathic because I have just been researching camping for the absolute beginner, I like the idea of being able to pitch up when you get tired and not have to find some place that works out to be the cost of everything you have here, just for a single night. Laughed out loud when I saw the essentials in your "porch". aye, having a bottle of Jura in the porch is a must 😁 . Your content, as always, is bang on Bruce. Well done!

    • @Coastriderscotland
      @Coastriderscotland  Рік тому +2

      Thanks, I tanned the hip flask so bottle a bottle of Jura Journey which is not as strong as their 10 year malt, refilled the hip flask holding it over my cup to catch the spillage then filled that and gave the remaining half bottle to the Swedish cyclist camped next to me to proceeded to finished it after some beers, he was still snoring next morning when I packed up and left at 9am 🤣🤣🤣😁👍

    Wise words indeed 👍👍👍
    I bought a 1-man tent a few years ago, a brilliant bit of kit from Millets. Once I set it up I realised that, in the unlikely event I actually managed to get down and into it, I would not have a hope in hell of getting back out the following morning without block & tackle and a can of axle grease... as you say a 2 man tent with an area to cook is the way to go.
    As I discovered, just because the midgies in Glen Coe did not bother you 10 years ago, it does not mean that the midgies in Caithness will not find you the best thing on the menu today... 😭😡🤬 Repellent (and a hood?) is absolutely essential.
    Hopefully someone from RE has noticed that your shade of military paint is the one they should be offering for their "Signals" bikes.

    • @Coastriderscotland
      @Coastriderscotland  Рік тому +2

      Hi Carl yeah the midges can be savage! 😜🤣, I bought a midge jacket from Higgs of Fife years ago, it amazing! Just a mesh jacket with a zip around the face and elastic waist and cuffs 😁👍
      Supposedly petrol and alcohol attract midges so that’s us bikers screwed! 🤣😁
      1942 Olive Drav is the colour I used - same as my Willys Jeep 😁👍

    I just done a trip around europe,,,I used a Lidl tent (cheapo) it survived a few wet night very well.. As a luxcury I had a camp bed it weighed abit ,,but I like a good nights sleep.. I used a 2 season sleeping bag but also a spare ,,just incase it got cold..a tarplin is a good idea... I used it for a porch.. I do not cook on site I eat out every day.. but I also wild camped ,,over at least 20 nights no issues whatsoever......cheers

    40 years ago I used SAE 140 gear oil on my KZ 400 chain.Most of it landed on the back of any clothes and jackets I rode with!! Get some chain lube thats made to stick to the chain.

      I have reverted back to the Castrol dry chain spray as the bike was indeed getting covered in oil which had built up considerably over a few months!

    Brilliant Bruce, our brains must be wired same. Identical style tent so you can cook , the wee fish you catch and hide out if the rain and midges. Had a genuine canvas army tent from 50s , bought on exchange and mart in 71 or 72 with a big dpc for groundsheet. Regretted selling at my first car boot sale. Never got wet but loads o beetles . It was invisible in the woods and string loops to fasten ! Need to find out about mattress thing , mine old heavy and not comfy for old man now.
    I wonder how many realise the joy of setting up camp in hidden wee spot and you are alone with nature, tonic for your brain. Wee set of binoculars adds to experience! Keep up good work Bruce!

      Hi Neil, the magi of camping is wild camping where and when it suits you 😁👍 my mate has a US army tent in the back of his Willys Jeep, I need to get one for my Jeep too!, also have some camo netting from my Jeep to stealth the bike!,?the tent I bought is also available in green and I kind of wish I had bought that colour for stealth camping but the red is fine for campsites as I used on the NC500,
      Good point on small binoculars👍 parter has them with her when out and about 😁👍

    . You are spot on with the bike choice as people forget you do not need a 20k adventure bike to tour in the UK, one thing I do carry is a 2.2ltr spare fuel can and mark on a map every fuel station on route, needed when on a Honda 125 Super Cub with a 3.4 ltr tank on the NC500 and riding up from Reading. The red bag on the rear was that deliberate? I did the same on the small bike as it makes you more visible to road users behind you especially on the motorway.

    • @Coastriderscotland
      @Coastriderscotland  7 місяців тому

      Hi, the Classic has been great for touring in Scotland 😁👍
      The red bag was the original bag but thats s good point you make on visibility 👍 i also have a yellow bag which would be even better😁
      Having 24hr card pumps have never made it better for getting fuel early hours and late evenings
      Thats a good idea marking up your map with fuel stops😁👍

    Really enjoyed watching your NC 500 videos Bruce and brilliant video on what to take when camping. I'm the proud owner now of rhe red and chrome Classic 350 and just coming up for the first service. My biggest worry when thinking of a road trip to remote locations is getting a puncture! I know that we've got roadside recovery for 3 years but I wondered what your thoughts are? Carrying tubes, levers and a pump and the tools to get the wheel off would be a bit impractical. I'd love to know what your thoughts are. Thans again for the wonderful videos. Keep safe. Andy
