No more wriggling round on the floor changing my bike kit, it’s jumped the weight up to 6 kilos, but I’m now not having to carry an additional tarp. Great video, I’ve been looking at the Omega 250, it seems a great value proposition for a travel tent, I have a Durston Xmid 1p as my ultralight. I’ve been looking at the Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 2 and Exped Outer Space II. But the Vango seems to do near enough all they do at half the price. @@RobertWoolford yes, it’s a great tent, use it a lot for car camping as well when at bike races. I have a few tents and each have their place, but I’d defo buy the Galaxy again as a base camp tent
Looking at your Vango Omega 250 just makes me realise how great my Wechsel Outpost 3 is. Only last weekend the owner of a Lone Rider tent was telling me how his big tent was totally unsuitable for solo Moto camping and how he would be getting one like mine.
We all like different things for different adventures- sometimes you want super lightweight because you are travelling off-road and want a minimalist load, sometimes a big base camp tent and sometimes something in between. I’m sure they’ll be lots off to the Adventure Bike Festival in a few weeks taking their Moto tents and they’ll have a very relaxing weekend
I need to get another tent. A 2-man tent as a minimum so you can get all your gear inside and not 12:20 block the vestibules. Maybe next will be a 3-man one. In summer, a side opening would be preferable for getting light in and fresh air. At the moment, crawling in and out is a pain on end openings, especially when the ground is wet & muddy.
@@stephenwilliams1824 off to test a new tent tomorrow, a very interesting tent, not something I would normally go for, but I’m falling for it big time - keep an eye on the channel, hopefully something out by the weekend 👍🎉
I love the packsize of that Helium! I will be motocamping for the first time ever, and hesitate of buying a tent. I don't know how to take it with me! (TDM 900)
I ride a TDM 900, you can carry virtually any tent on it, I've chucked a Decathlon 4 person air beam tent across the back. It's "only" 12kg so relative to a passenger nothing (you are allowed a load of 208kg so unless you are rather well fed it's irrelevant). For the TDM I normally use a discontinued Vango 3 person tent, being able to sit on a chair in the vestibule is a priority for those wet days.
Anyone who describes the weather as piss poor gets a sub from me! I have some smal UL backpacking tents, and was thinking of the omega 350 as the 250 isn't big enough for a big car campsite tent.
depends a bit on the kind of driving you do... TET, offroad, or highway cruising... the probability of having to lift your cruiser is less than your 350 enduro on an impossible trail ;-)
If you never get off the highway no it won't matter. If you have to pick it back up 5 times riding a nasty route of single track in the middle of nowhere, you might want to save a little weight.
Blimey, wouldn't want that weight on the back of my bike! If you go to the Vango website they have an outlet page and have various tents at discounted prices - some bargains to found on there.
Got the vango omega 450 as it wasn't that much heavier than the 350 but that little bit more room. Loved it and was my tent to take on the bike. Then at the biker fests saw these weird shaped vango tents with the tall fronts to them. Chatted to the guys who had them and I thought go for it. Welcome to my tent collection, the Vango Galaxy 300. That was two years ago, so impressed when my mate was with me, and him crawling around in his low tunnel tent with all his bike gear, that he went and bought one last year. I think they are discontinued now as a lot of places are out of stock. Last weekends outing was heavy rain, and it collected in a small pool on the roof just above the door. Me and mate disturbed it (him swatting a wasp and me rolling up the door) when it had stopped raining, and ended up with water inside. Yours says Galaxy 'Earth Trek' , ours says Galaxy 'Base Camp'. Same tents but very slight differences. Only noticed this as last weekends fest there were more of these Galaxy 300 tents, and the 'earth trek' ones didn't have the problem of the slightly saggy roof bit above the front door and collecting pool of water. Need to get my thinking head on to find a solution, as when I spilled the water, it ended up in my panniers, and don't say "well move your panniers then" lol
Vango have them on their website, have a used one on their other site. I tend to buy tents in winter when they are cheaper and more of them about. for the money they are a great tent. Was looking at this Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 2 the other day - looks perfect for bike camping but also looked a pain to put up and over £500 - the galaxy is so quick and easy to erect, can't see me swapping it out any time soon. Maybe eventually someone with do an air version!
Thanks for the review I’ve been looking for another tent that would give more room and be quick to pitch. I seem to gravitate towards Vango. I’ve already have a Vango Tryfan 200 which has great ventilation but it’s inner pitch first so not ideal in the rain. Im planning on doing LEJOG in August which will mean multi night camping. Do I go dome or tunnel? And how big( I’m on a Vstrom 650), ultralight or more space? 🤔I’d welcome your view. Cheers.
It’s a tough question on what size, and as ever with camping the weather makes such a difference. I guess you have to decide what you are more happy to live with - more room, easy pitch, lightweight - and location will effect the choice, no fun being stuck in a tiny tent all night, but if there’s a pub or something you’re heading to then it’s not so bad. I dunno, I like to keep it fairly light if doing a lightweight trip.
FWIW, if you're doing multi day hikes go for as light as you can afford. You'll nerd to spend some cash though. Tents to consider in my experience include wild country helm 2, lanshan 2, vango banshee 200, or fir more cash something like the terra nova pioneer 2, the Northern Lite 2, a vango f10 UL?
Personally I only use a small tent when weight matters, so travelling off-road, need the bike to be as light as possible. The Cub 2 is very heavy for the size of tent it is, my little tent is 1.4kg, they are nearly 4kg. If weight isn't a problem then I'm defo gonna take a bigger tent like the Omega 250 or the Galaxy. For me the Cub makes absolutely no sense, pack size is huge but the tent is tiny in comparison to something like the Naturehike Opalus 2 or 3 - I'm always conscious of how I'd live in a tent if it's constantly raining, I know the Cub would just be miserable, great if the weather is good, but otherwise nowhere to do any admin or store lots of gear.
I can't be 100% certain as I don't have that bike, but I have got my CRF450L into it and at a push because the sleeping bit is so big you could unclip that a bit to create a bit more room. Not much use to you I'm sure but that's all I can say on that
Love how you mocked your mate for having such a huge tent, then went and bought something similar 🤣 I'd imagine that type of thing happens a lot with bikers 😎
Yeah he's got more money than sense often. But credit where credit is due, defo worth having a bigger tent when carrying a kilo or two more isn't an issue. Been an excellent tent so far, taken car camping as well when on my own and using my bike trailer, very surprised they aren't more popular
@@twowheeledadventuresuk2739 I currently have 3 tents for bike camping and each one is bigger than the previous! I'm not at the point where I can stand up in it but my most recent purchase does have an outside covered area so we can sit next to the BBQ without getting wet as it always rains when we go away 🤣
@@TheDervMan think I'm at about 12 tents in total, just bought a little bivvy tent for stealth camping off the bike, but I've also got my eye on a Naturehike Hiby tent, nice big sleep area for 1 and a porch you could probably sit in - I've just bought a Big Agnes Skyline stool to try out for the smaller tents.
What about the Wolf Walker tent?
@@richardsracingmad there are lots of good tents out there, that particular one I know nothing about
Thanks for the review I’ve been looking for another tent that would give more room and be quick to pitch.
Thoughts on the slummit cub 2
Cute dog. What make/breed/type is it? 🙂
He’s a border terrier 👍👌
Can you park a cb500x in the porch of the vango 300

I just love camping and tents!
12! I take my hat off to you @@twowheeledadventuresuk2739 😎I'm very impressed. I just wish I had more time to camp more.
For the cost of the Galaxy I'd rather pay the extra £80 and get so much more from the LR MotoTent.
The ideal number of tents a motorcyclist should have is +1
Deliver Dominos Pizza to the franchisee in Ripon.
I called the Ripon Chamber of Commerce and the local pronounce the “o” in Ripon as if the “o” is an “e”. So the locals pronounce it Ripen.
Correct. You don’t need a tent that big!
Worth nothing (Millets, JD group, UK)... Eurohike Tamar 2 or Avon 3 DLX... budget but great options.
