I turned 63 this year and have just got back into moto camping. A month ago did 4 nights in mid Wales on my RE classic 500. Had such a great time. Good weather helped and my son joined me for 2 nights. On hoiliday with the wife just now in Yorkshire (no bike!!) but am going to plan my next trip on the bike up here - it's soooo lovely. All my biking mates think I've lost the plot!!!

Hi, nothing wrong with losing the plot, I lost mine years ago, I've even looked on Ebay and can't find one!

Watching this from a hotel near Malton, where Im trying to get warm after a wet and cold ride over the moors. I’m on day 2 of a 3 day tour on my Classic 350. I have avoided dual carriageways and motorways and it’s a pleasure to be touring on this bike. I’m probably a bit past camping though 😀😀😀

Now that is a sensible tent! When I bought my bike I thought I would try camping after a break of 30 years.
I bought one of the modern wedge-shaped micro tents which pack down amazingly small even though they are double-layered.
I did a dry run by setting it up in my livingroom. Only then did it dawn on me that in the unlikely event I actually managed to get down and into the tent, I would have absolutely no chance of being able to get back out the next morning. (at least not without a can of axle grease and a couple of levers)
Old age comes as a bit of a shock...

Hi, I thought the same thing next morning when I was trying to get my leathers on laying down.
so.... I loved it so much I've invested in a Lone Rider Moto Tent, I can stand up in it, and Ivy can come in whit me.
      Ride safe, Dave

Ivy looks just right alongsisde a tent. If I can get past your bacon butty and hog roast (starving now) a heads up on Rok Straps and Wingman of the Road Tent - had both for 3 years now and used in all weathers. Both items a bit expensive but both really superb kit and worth every penny. The Wingman (I understand) was designed for the Australian military and as such is top quality canvas but not too heavy. Big advantages are the rapid erection, inc as you said Dave, with sleeping bag and mattress (not air so no need for inflation) even for my old bones takes less than 5 mins. It creates loads of space by attaching to bike and can cover bike too - you've made a good faximile but a bit to go yet! But the main advantage is the dark interior, modern fabrics are great but let in too much light for me, but still has plenty of ventilation options and superb all round zips - I love it to pieces. Disdvantages - can seem a little claustrophobic at first and little head room - to get in involves a roll in but hey if I can manage at 75 so can you! Rok straps are simply the best. Secure and adaptable they last well and dont become stretched as bunjees do, I would never consider bunjees again even for minor tie ups, I shudder when I remember trips to the Alps loaded down with gear on my ST1100 the bike loaded like a Christmas tree and only bunjees to secure. Live and learn eh! Yes please more camping trips.

Those Wolds roads were a favourite for my model G Enfield when I lived near Filey: happy days. My classic 350 has finally arrived from the dealer's in Sophia, Bulgaria. I had ordered the Halcyon Black version but when I rolled it off the truck i could see it was the blacked- out version. "Oh well" i thought and decided it would do; since then it the colour scheme has grown of me. What delightful characters these bikes are; Enfield have managed to mass produce a soulful and charming little bike so reminiscent of the original Reddich models. Looking forward to exploring the quiet byways of Bulgaria.

Check the dimensions of your tent but, a LOMO 40L motorcycle roll bag should fit that inside, keep everything dry come hell or high winds, then ROK Straps will go through the handy loops on the roll bag!
Did the ABR Festival on my CG125 this year and that setup kept everything perfectly dry and safe :)
    Happy riding!

I love these English countryside riding videos. The drivers seem to be calm and polite. The roads are well maintained and the scenery is to die for. Here, I had to pass on a Classic 350 because the world is one big perpetual rat race. No matter how fast you go someone is raging behind you. The freeways are raceways and everyone driving 80+ mph and seem to be insane.
England is still half way civilized. Sorry to hear about your losing the bike to scumb** thieves.

Great video and really good to see someone who is just plodding along enjoying themselves which is what it is all about. Ive got to the stage now where I just want to do my own thing and not be riding as fast as possible to keep up with everyone else, some people may describe me as a miserable old git! I have never been motorbike camping but have camped numerous times whilst walking but I am really looking forward to trying it out for the first time.👍

Lovely looking bike, I've got the interceptor. You do see so so much more on them. 25 yrs on sports bikes blasting around. Great to see you plodding along taking every bit of your surroundings in.

    Great stuff mate.
I've got panniers on order for Ethel .
Once she's kitted out I'll be doing the same on a two dayer 70 miles away to test load out ect.
Been hiking, camping and doing bushcraft for years so got all the gear I need and some.
Most very compact for back packing so two panniers and a rack will be luxurious.
    Happy Enfielding with Ivy

Yes I realise you’ll probably never read this, it’s been a while since you put the video up. I’d still like to thank you for putting up such a nice laid back video. Good steady riding on a very pleasant sounding machine, in wonderful weather, with glorious scenery. It’s the first day of a New Year as I watched that, it's grey and wet but you're video brightened things up. New Year resolution, do more miles, just for the fun of it, and some solo camping if needs be. Since retiring I’ve only been doing rallies, time to rack up some miles just to see what’s round the next bend. Thanks for putting that in me head, or at least reminding me there's more to riding than London commuting. I ride a 40 year old Honda 650, more of a maintenance hobby than transport. This is not a short post, because no one’s going to read it after all this time. Thanks anyway.
Oh, and couldn’t help noticing it looks like you “cover” the clutch with a couple of fingers, me too. My excuse is two strokes locking up without warning in my youth. Can’t seem to break the habit.

    • @thatblokeonamotorbike
      @thatblokeonamotorbike  7 місяців тому

Hi, I bet this has surprised you! I'm glad the videos have rekindled the feeling of getting out on the bike just for the hell of it. I retire in May this year and can't wait to get the tent on the back.
When I started riding at 16 the first thing I got into was covering the clutch, Just In Case. I find it a comfortable way to ride, less cramp now as well.
Let me know how you get on, ride safe mate and enjoy every second, Dave 😎🏍🌞🎪

Looks like you had a very enjoyable sortie down memory lane - and why not? There's not many nice roads like that in this part of West Australia; they're mainly straight, flat and pretty boring, plus the distance between places is generally measured in hundreds of kilometres, so most of my riding is done in suburbia.
