At least they didn't kill her off which leaves the possibility of her returning as a guest or possibly even as a regular again. I hated when they killed off Dr Melendez. Shaun, Claire and Neil were my three favorite characters and two are now gone. 🙁 I don't really like the two new doctors

I think this show fucked up the moment they killed off Melendez unnecessarily ☹️ Seriously what were they thinking 🤔 Now Claire is gone.. basically half the main cast is gone and the replacement is no better. Good luck to the show.

@@ec339 there was a interview online that stated nicolas only knew the character was going to be dying by midway through the filming of season 3 and that he was pretty sad about it. I don’t think he wanted to leave.. I think the producers just wanted to kill of someone just to bump up the ratings like they did in Game of thrones, big fail if you ask me.

I mean he operated on a woman's spine in a location full of dust and debris using an improvised blood transfusion machine made out of a beer vending machine, and she SURVIVES, while he dies of some minor internal injury. I mean, really??? It came out of nowhere and definitely unwarranted for.
They could bring Melendez back as his long lost twin who's better than his brother but went OS to work in some third world country and comes back with a ton of practical knowledge but struggles with constraints, very similar yet different to Melendez and play with everyone's emotions that way

Not surprised cuz the show haven’t allowed clair’s character to grow/ experience happiness. Her character is always suffering or dealing with something heavy on the show. That can take a toll on the actor themselves. Can you imagine going to work everyday having to cry and find something within yourself to trigger off such strong emotions. I think this is also about self care for herself which is good for her!

I'm crushed and saddened after hearing that she's leaving. Dr. Browne had become the "angel" and moral compass of the show. That being said, it's just a TV show and I wish her well and as a fan, I will follow her and check out what she does next. One last thing: As amazing as Freddy Highmore's American accent is, I think she does "American" even better. I had no idea that she was English!
I was shocked the first time I heard him speak in his British accent. I bet even even Dr. Lim is British. Wasn't Hugh Laurie British too. Damn David Shore.
@@toriless Yep, Laurie is also a Brit; probably the best American accent out of the three. He nailed his audition right off the bat and had them fooled that he was American by all accounts. Don't remember Freddie in Willy Wonka? I didn't realise Claire was British until now. Lim is Taiwanese I think.

I do , as well. It is so rarely you see an empathetic and sensitive woman who is also brilliant , intelligent and rational in a TV show. I mean ,sometimes , empathetic woman are regarded as too emotional and erratic. So , I loved seeing her.

Without Dr. Neil Melendez & Dr. Claire Brown, I have no other reason to watch the Good Doctor! I've stopped watching after Melendez was killed off the show.

After doctor Menendez was killed I lost all interest in the Serie. Then all those new Doctor were brought into the serie and I didn't have any connection with them.

It saddens me to see her go. I realized Antonia was leaving the show when Claire took the opportunity to stay at Guatemala. Then, just heard that she wants to be a guest. It still won't be the same.

Well lets think about this: her mom was introduced then died, she admitted her love for Melendez then he died, she forgave her dad and he's dying... if they're going to keep killing people connected to the character then why would the actress stick around? don't blame her for leaving.
Actually, the death of Melendez is what got her thinking what else is left and that is when she approached David Shore.

I feel like the writers really make it clear that they want people to love and care only about Shaun.
Unfortunately for them we got attached to other characters than him so they just kill them off or send them off the show. Killing Melendez was the worst decision they made. That Antonia wants to leave her role as Claire is a personal choice she has the right to make but it makes 2 characters lots of us loved MORE than the "main" character.
I love Audrey (the episode "Lim" was incredible - such a great actress !) and I'm now worried they will make her go too next season.
If they will make more. Think that 1-2 season at max, to close the story. Shawn will have Marriage, maybe a kid, do some big operation on someone important, be promoted to full on surgeon. Nice end, that should be enough
A great show though hinges on a main character, really comes together like pieces of a mosaic due to the depth of other characters. Shawn alone could never have carried it on his own. Let us hope, the characters keep building depth and engagement...I loved all the interactions from the human angle. More power to the show.
this was exactly what I thought when they killed off Melendez. He was the fan favorite character and the heart of the show, he ended up taking all the spotlight from shaun and I imagine David Shore, the showrunner, didn't like that so he killed him off that very stupid and downright insulting way.

I think killing off Melendez was a brilliant move. He was my absolute favourite of the show, but in an interview, David Shore was comparing Melendez' fate with real life: Losing someone you love isn't easy and it makes us, the viewers, incredibly emotional. What I love about that show is their dialogue and how deeply emotional this series is. I think it was also the actor's decision to bring Melendez' story to an end, because he wanted to spend more time with his wife and daughter off screen.
At least she chose to leave the show on her own terms unlike Dr Melendez who was unnecessarily taken off. On season 4 there was that missing thing which I couldn't quite pin point. All the characters are great in their respective roles but there's just that one person who makes the whole pack work simultaneously together so well that you fall for them. Dr Melendez was that sort of guy.
I don't think it was unnecessarily. I think there was an interview with the actor and he explained he wabted to stop acting as Melendez to spend more time with his family.

The writers ruined the character.
She was the heart of the show and they were all about breaking her heart.
At every angle they got.
Losing a patient she had saved in the middle of the night.
Losing Kalu. Her mom. Her best friend. Then losing a man whom she could've married.
Yuck!

First, they killed Melendez in an unexpected way, later they killed Shaun’s and Lea’s baby girl after doing almost a whole season about the pregnancy for them at the end lose the baby. I wished they would become parents to see Shaun learn how to be in that dad side. But the season became just more boring and boring.

shaun and lea are so toxic, instead of doing that pregnancy storyline they should have focus on fixing that.

I just recently found this show, been binge watching for a little while. I loved it until the 4th season. I probably wont even continue to watch because the energy changed after they killed off Melendez for no reason. None of the new doctors are interesting. I can't stand Reznik, Lea or Glassmens wife so..... now that Claire is gone there's no point but I enjoyed the show at first. I hate when great shows go left, and this show went left for me as soon as Lea came back and when they killed Melendez

it's a shame because she was my favorite along with shaun. i don't really watch the show anymore bc i don't like the whole dynamic between shaun and lea (it feels too rushed) but if i ever did tune into it, it was mostly for claire. though, i really am happy for antonia and wish her the best!
I wasn’t really surprised when it was announced. The show keeps screwing up her storylines. For her to be one of the main characters, she can’t just only have a personality, she needs to have a good storyline to back it up. First she had the fling with Kalu and seemed to be falling for him, then he left the show. Then, her mother came back into her life, and the writers killed her off which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing because it opened up a nice storyline for her. Then, she fell in love with Melendez and the show killed HIM off. I don’t understand why her character had to be a grieving one who always has to suffer with loss.
And let’s be honest, she didn’t really have a storyline during this season apart from her father coming back. It seems like they just kept Claire around as a voice of reason or as the compassionate doctor, which isn’t a bad thing when she’s supposed to be a supporting character, but she wasn’t. If they hadn’t killed of Melendez, her character AND Melendez could have had more of a story that was worth expanding (but I guess them becoming a couple would have taken the spotlight off of Shaun and Lea).
Also, I find it weird that we lost so many POC characters. Kalu, Melendez, Carly and now Claire? Who’s next? Lim? Andrews? Park?
Talking About taking a good series and killing it! That what the writers are doing . Personally I preferred Shaun with Carly. That relationship was more relatable.
I agree with you on the storyline part of Claire - first I thought there would be an development with Enrique but he also left.
As an European I don’t get the POC part though - I guess it’s people of colour....? It seems to be used quite often as an argument nowadays in America if people don’t get their way - I can’t see it though: when Kalu left, Park came, when Jessica left Medelez, Lim came to the picture, after Carly left and the new residents arrived , there were Jordan, Olivia and Enrique and now Lim will have an affair with Matheo .......so? Should the colour be important anyway and isn’t white a colour, too?

Given our country's historical background, it is not uncommon or weird to call out lack of diversity, unfairness to diversity, and such. They may not have thought about the other POCs in the show, but questioning why the show kept getting rid of POC characters is a legitimate question.

They cant get rid of Shaun and hopefully not of Glassman and Lea but other characters could be replaced. What if some of them WANT to leave bc they have a better offer than being a side-chararcter? Carly for example was one - her role was only to get Shaun some experiance. If she would have been white folks would have complained of that too. You cant please every viewer anyway

I started binging this show at the end of August or beginning of September. I literally just saw Antonia’s last episode last night and I ugly-cried WORSE than I did when they got rid of the guy that played Melendez!!!
I started noticing the writers getting rid of people a lot lately, but I completely forgot about Jared and others.
I just now am caught up on the show. This is heartbreaking to say the least.

The fourth season is such a pain to watch through! I think the last season was the best one. The characters had great one liners that cracked me up for a long time! This season, there's just no connection with the characters. Not even feeling Shaun so much
They don't do the characters we love justice. The writers seem to focus on other characters and bringing their love life and happiness as a priority in this series. They all were giving top billing but the focus is on certain characters that represent the majority and we all know what that means. I'm completely done with this show now that MY favorites characters have left. I love that Antonia left to pursue other adventures that shows her brilliant talents. Go for what inspires you to show your brilliance and not waiting for years for others to do so.🥰
It's so British to leave while you're still at the top, rather than after the show's been worn into the ground. (Thinking about how so many great British TV series seem to end so much sooner than their American counterparts - leave them wanting more!)

Tbh, I think the Good Doctor made decisions that caused it to be one of those shows that may need to end sooner than they may have liked. I really cannot see it lasting last 6 seasons or even to 6 seasons

This is what happened to Gray's anatomy. I watched it for about 4 years and they started killing everybody off and bringing in newbies and it just lost interest with me after a while once everybody's gone.

The death of dr Melendez already got me crying and it made me take a break from the show but I continued watching it, at the end of season 4 and when I watched her leave it just made me almost stop watching the show. Without Melendez and Browne I have no idea what I’m watching the show for…

I just can't stop thinking about the fact that things would've turned out differently with a decent showrunner. I'll never watch anything Shore's involved in. He's such a sadist, racist, all he wants and enjoys is to make viewers and the characters suffer and go through miseries. I'll never forgive them for killing off Melendez/firing Nick for no reason, who was a fan favourite and pivotal to the series, having so much more to tell. They literally built up Melendaire's relationship for nothing and while we were enjoying their moments, hoping they were gonna get together, I'm sure they were laughing at us. People had been fighting for months to bring him back, but Shore didn't give a **** about anything, even knowing that covid had taken away so much from us and all we wanted was a miracuolus survival for him. And they had the audacity to speak about hope while promoting the new season. Claire and Neil deserved a happy ending. Ratings rose by 2 million at the end of season 3 because of them (a lot of former viewers started to watch TGD again after they had left during season 2 when they decided to put him with Lim). Since then, ratings have been dropping, the show has gone downhill. And they can't make anything to change this. With Claire gone too, the numbers will be even lower. It's a textbook example of how to ruin your own show. I stopped watching it after Melendez's death and even though they try keep telling this bullshit that it was necessary, their's nothing, NOTHING that could justify it. It didn't add anything to the series, on the contrary...
I started to like her because of The Good Doctor!
She might one day (after taking part in other projects) return from Guatemala to San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.

She clearly became an even better one not only because of what she learned from Shaun but from what she learned about how to be a friend for him and others. It made her a better doctor as well. I do not think she would have grown as much without him as part of her life.

It was known a YEAR ago. She let the producer know and they purposely rewrote her story arc this year to accelerate her story to where it needed to be regarding her mother, father, etc. after the death of Melendez. I guess you are NOT A FAN or you would have known this long ago.

She probably left because they were giving her some horrible storylines. Her character "Claire" was handed some very hard blows during her time on the series. Hopefully, and Antonia will be successful in her future projects.
