Mostly to do with the fact I'm an old fart, but I will ALWAYS go with the manual. I will never need the extra 1-1/2 seconds vs the driving experience that comes with a stick shift... Great comparison
@@jimsteinway695 The throttle blip is defeatable. Mine stays off. You can drive it old school, and heel-and-toe if you wish. The main advantage of the modern box is it has fantastic synchros, so shift engagement is really smooth and solid.
If you want speed go PDK, want control and fun, manual. Hopefully some day we can have both where we have 3 pedals and a stick but there’s a switch to allow automatic to take over. That would be great innovation.
The PDK is an automatic manual. With rev matching and auto blipping you’re not really shifting anyway. The 911 is basically a track car. You want to really shift buy a 993 911
VW Fox, Saturn SL2, Dodge Neon, Geo Tracker, Jeep Wrangler, Lancer EVO IX, WRX, Toyota Tacoma, WRX STI, C7 Z51, 987.1 S, 718. All manuals. Long live the Manual!
Great review and comparision, i needed this video before buying since i’ve always been a manual guy, but pdk feels amazing, you helped me out thanks! PDK its gona be
If you’re fortunate to have a 911 as a second car, then it’s the manual, if it’s a daily then pdk, but the full auto with only the flap paddles and the ‘shaver shift’ is a no for me 🙂
@@DriveSteady im getting a 991.2 T. Ive had them all. Just sold my 992 gts. 992 is not my favorite. Too much touch screen stuff. The T is just a good simple sports car
If you are a good driver I’d go manual ….bad driver pdk . I say that as in terms of going fast. Manual as a skill is easy but at high speeds it makes things difficult. Braking hard before a corner and taking your hand off the steering wheel to down shift is scary, you need two hands for that corner. As a guy that has done 3 track days (porsche/bmw)with automatics because they don’t provide manuals . It be so much tougher in a manual . When you are going fast and have to make split second decisions having 2 hands on the steering wheel vs 1 is a big difference when pushing the limits . 400hp + is a different ball game in a manual . I have 15 years of manual driving under my belt . When I got my g80 m3 I realized how inconvenient having 1 hand off at times is,cause you are at speeds incredibly quickly and the steering is super responsive . In 1st and 2nd the car is almost faster than you can shift, when you floor it. Honestly I understand why manuals are going away cause the power is too much . Anyways manual all day but it really isn’t the pure form anymore. The manual is an after thought and honestly a 300-350hp manual would be much more fun .
Drove nothing but manual Porsches for years and thought I would never own a PDK. Recently bought a 2018 C2S and I have to say I love the PDK. It's really the best of both worlds in a daily driver. Going to get a coffee and just want to relax let the transmission do the work, want to play race car, put it in manual and have fun! In addition the 991 cars let you use the paddles or the gear selector to shift, for me with years driving the manual using the shift knob feels right at home.
You want engagement my friend? Disconnect traction control and use brakes and wheels of 15 years ago. Everything else is blah blah blah… yeah I got my 992 with PDK. Ultimate weapon in twisty roads and circuit where this car belongs. For straight roads in USA, yeah, probably manual is more fun
In the GT3 the PDK is the only option. The one weakness of the gt3 is low torque. So if you’re in the wrong gear you’re toast. I’ve had three GT3s and the first 2 were manuals. You had to be perfect every time. Wrong gear or missed shift you lose 3-5 car lengths on the track. The PDK simply solves that whole weak point. Just like a modern race car with sequential tranny. Why buy a track car then pay more for the SLOWER car?? That’s just silly. If you want more involvement buy a 993 and shift to your hearts content. At the back of the pack.
I own multiple manuals have 25 years of road racing experience im a manual expert. Modern dct/pdks are 100% the ONLY TRANSMISSION i would ever order on a NEW Porsche. Why? Pdk/dct better driver control, better driver engagement, driver enjoyment and 100% more reliable and much faster street and 100% guaranteed faster on a racetrack. Pdk blows 6 sp mt away
Which would you pick, manual or pdk?
PDK, im a newbie.
@Reotha amazing transmission
The manual. Any day or night❤❤
👌
The manual👍👍❤️❤️

Today’s manuals are so assisted you’re not really shifting . Auto blip rev matching, if you really want to shift you need a 997 or earlier

I have my slot for a Carrera S. I am going for the manual as I want to experience the fun of my first car.

Manual, men only know why !!!👍👍👍
The ONLY way to drive a Porsche is with a Manual Transmission. A TRUE driving experience. Great comparison And video.
💪💯
Excellent comparison between the PDK and Manual!! Save the manuals!!👍

Which one do you like best?
VW Fox? Loved mine
I ordered my 992 Carrera T with a manual.
(So glad I live in Texas seeing all that mess over there.)
Look at the border

My last two 911s were manuals. Ready to relax a bit. Going with pdk this time. Both are wonderful.
Which trim are you going with?

@Gungaganoonga that's awesome. The T is the only one I haven't driven yet
I have a 991.2 with the manual, but I fully understand why someone might want the PDK...it is a truly remarkable piece of technology.

seeing a brand new 911 driving by groups of homeless tents on the road of downtown is definitely an experience
Unfortunately it's the reality of the situation
That’s how it looks when I pull my Porsche out the garage in Oakland 😮
Less police enforcement! 😜
Yeah I can't figure out why porshe put a dealership in downtown LA. Really odd. And besides the terrible scenery, just awful roads to test drive on.
Are there no speed limits in residential areas in LA ?
Manual for a 911 always!

New to the channel. Sorry if this has been asked and answered before but is this guy a brother of the guy with the LNC Collision UA-cam channel?
No
Nice you’re doing launch control on 911s not broken in.

3.3 or 4 seconds honestly who cares about that slight difference? IMO both is fast enough
Stick is fine on and off 3rd911... Not for your favorite off you really plans to drive the car regularly
