Still think the name of this channel is so fitting for the content, its like the viewer is getting a ride along the live of Sams automotive journey and that makes that people are not mad about him selling that stunning RS6 because they understand you need the money for the Jaguar and GT3. Same with the 360 its so long on the channel and still makes stunning content because he loves the car. That pure passion makes good content.
Allthougth the movie style filming helps as well.

Very good question. I actually love the PDK - it’s more engaging than so many people say. BUT - there’s something about the driving experience of a manual that adds a level of engagement that is next level.

If you want the best lap time available go for the PDK, if you want to feel connected to the car 100% of the time go for the manual. Personally, for B road driving and touring I'd have to go for a manual... But realistically it's not a decision I'm ever likely to be puzzling over anyway...

No way. Driven plenty of over 600hp cars and all of them were manual. Always my preference. And why an arbitrarily horsepower number? What about power to weight? Either way, outdo of competitive auto racing where every fraction of a second counts, 3 pedals are just more fun. On and off the track.

Manual with 18-Ways is the way to go IF you have intentions are getting an RS someday and this will be primarily a road car... If this will be a heavily tracked car, I would suggest the PDK and Buckets... and if very heavily tracked, steel brakes... Very situationally dependent choice.

I owned a 991.1 GT3 PDK and until recently a 991.2 GT3 Touring - both fantastic cars and while no doubt on paper the PDK will be faster, the manual (which I put 12,880km on) was a lot more engaging and fun to drive. You have definitely made the right choice! Congratulations!

I never get this manual thing, don't have a clue what people mean, it's the exact opposite for me.
I feel way more "one with the car" when I'm driving an automatic, because I don't have to think about gear changes.
I have a thought of what I want to do and then just... do it, it's like the car is part of my body. When I walk or run I don't have to think about that either.
But when I have to change gears manually there's always that split-second in which you make your choice for a gear... and at that point the car's no longer part of me, it's just a machine that I control.

@@barbarusbloodshed6347 Personally I feel an auto / dual clutch is something that feels like it drives itself. Your ability to change gears quickly, downshift etc will determine how fast you can speed up in a manual. Overall though I just feel like driving fast with a manual and having to actually drive well, get the smooth but fast downshifts, upshifts etc adds so much more fun to driving a car hard.

One thing I love about my Manual 992 GT3 is the motorsports-like whip-crack sounds I can make the car do when it's warm and I'm flat-shifting. The flat-shift means this car has 3 gearboxes: Regular manual where you have to rev-match. Sporty manual where you don't have to rev-match. Practically PDK where you can flat-shift, up or down.

Like you, I had a 'phone call from my local OPC offering me a GT3 but a Touring. Happy days, andI've specced pdk with ceramics brakes. Perfect for the road, I think. I've now had several pdk's and they are so versatile, relaxed when pootling around town, easy to drive in flowing traffic and motorway cruising, involving when in manual 'flappy paddle' mode and 'making progress' and the fastest way round a track by far. I spent a session at Silverstone with Richard Attwood, Le Mans legend, and he was of the opinion that there is no better way to set a lap time than with the pdk in track mode and leave the gearbox to make the decisions. And he should know...

I eagerly await the first livestream of Sam stuck in slow moving traffic in the GT3. That's when he'll know he made the wrong decision, and having made it quite clear he lives and drives mostly in the city I cannot understand his choice - although it is HIS choice and I respect that.
Having owned a manual Porsche Cayman S for 12 years and driven many British B roads, I rarely got out of 2nd gear when having fun so may as well have had a PDK. Changing up and down just for the sake of it was never my preference. 2nd performed absolutely fine and was well capable of going fast enough without a strain. The only times I wished for a PDK was stop/start traffic with the heavy Porsche clutch. At my age the jittery left leg came on quite often making smooth driving next to impossible! Really glad I live well away from big cities and regular conjestion.........not so for Sam.

I feel that way with 99% of the cars today. I think the worst thing I've learned in the last year having gone to a new car is throttle lag. Terrible and in my own opinion a real safety concern. I miss the days when the gas pedal was directly connected to the engines throttle plate by a cable instead of drive-by-wire. Looking forward to hearing more. Again, congrats on the upcoming GT3! 🌈

I suspect you made the right choice and a critically important one. I have watched several people purchase a GT3 with great fan fare, only to dump it pretty quickly. Often with the comment that it is so perfect it is unengaging on public roads. No question a track weapon of choice.
I think the stick shift combined with perfect road manners and 500hp would make this an engaging experience at any speed. And you can keep it in the upper rev range when you please, or lug around town. The PDK is great for track use, or for someone happy to drive the GT3 like an expensive daily driver to drive to and from their corner office like they are wearing a nice suit.

Having driven a few duel clutch gearboxed car including a Porsche I agree with you that the manual gearbox in any car gives you a connection with it that even the best of them can’t quite make, if I could have a GT3 it would be a manual.

I’ve blissfully enjoyed my 997.2 gt3 for almost 30,000 miles since I got in 2019. I agree the manual gear box is the way to go in any 911.
    Congrats on the gt3 allocation!
    Woohooo :)

Sam I have previously had 911 manual whilst living in London and did not enjoy the constant gear changes, and it does not like 1st/2nd gear. However currently drive a Carrera GTS PDK and with the high revving engine I honestly wouldn't want to have it in manual, it is really nice just to let it run and manage itself. If I am on one of those windy hill roads I click down and run it in manual for a while and enjoy the paddles.

Any manual car is great! Auto has its benefits for cars above a certain amount of power.......GT3 is around 500hp I would say PDK makes more sense. You can be part of the experience in a manual £10,000 sports car like a GT86 without needing to spend £160,000 on a high performance manual sports car. Saying that, maybe re-sale values will be better for your GT3 in manual. Many congrats on your GT3 Sam 🎉

Manual fan boys are the absolute worst of the car community. You’re telling me you(in general) wanna Sunday stroll a car with that much hp? Because I know we’re not that dumb enough to engage in high speeds using manual with that much power from a car. If u want manual u go for a car that has much lower hp. A Porsche GT3 is not for Sunday strolling. Smh

@@DrewGazin spot on , manual makes it feel like a good sports car PDk
makes it feel like a supercar, plus with the steep power curve of a GT3 who wants a long gear ratio ?

I pick up my manual Touring in September. Also agonised endlessly over the gearbox but a few hours in the manual Touring at the PEC told me exactly what I needed to know.
P.S. Pistonheads reviewer reckoned the same car with Pirelli P0 Corsa tyres was a much more pliant car to drive than when fitted with Cup Sport 2s.

You know what Sam. Absolutely good on you for going for the manual. PDK is for track. You are like me. You cannot beat the involvement that you get with the Manual. So what if it’s a bit slower through the gears, bits it’s about the pleasure of the drive and the PDK for me takes away that involvement. Also. A manual will be rarer as well so a big thumbs up from me 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
